Get a real GM

There is no closing the gap otherwise. If someone has 25+ years of failure at doing a job, do you hire them on and hope they can get it right this time?

For periods over nearly 3 decades, we've had teams where we're 'just one or two players or coaches away', but magically every team has some hole at a different position that needs fixing, and we patch that, but there's a hole somewhere else.

We need a GM that can put together a competent team. Jerry and the boys have nearly 30 years showing they can't get it done, but refuse to hire football minds to actually get it done.

They do what San Fran does. Keep tweaking the playbook. And continue upgrading your weak links with potentially better players

You'd still have his son to deal with, and you know, them apples don't fall far from the tree right?
Then you go to the point where SJ realises that he cannot build a team and employs someone (GM) to do it for him.

All SJ does is stay in the background and sign the cheques.

It will be 2025 and beyond before SJ takes the full reigns.

Am i convinced that he SJ will employ someone who can and will build a better team than him. = NO.

You end up with years of SJ at the helm (up to and prolly well into 2040) and possibly beyond .........the abyss.
I hope i am wrong.
I hope the Jones fam stumble across the magic formula to build a SB team.
I hope i am still alive to witness it......

I’m not dog piling on the countless other threads and comments, but it has to be upgrades at QB and coach. NFL games can almost always be predicted by picking the the team with the strongest QB/Coach combo.

I know there’s the Any Given Sunday cliche and all that, but this is the more often true than not.

Prescott isn’t as bad as people are saying after they’re so frustrated with last night’s loss, but he’s not a player who can take over, elevate the players around him, and beat seemingly superior teams. After so many seasons, it should be obvious who he is.

If last night was the revelation then the process should start today for how they close the gap in future years this offseason.

To me #1 is get a new center and LT in the offseason. Biadasz is playoff caliber but not Super Bowl caliber.

Tyron is never healthy. He gotta go.

#2. Get an uncoversble WR or TE. Need a physical monster like a Dez, TO or Metcalf. CeeDee is nice but he’s never going to dominate good teams.

#3 get big bruising RB. That will help soften the defense

#4 Ask Micah what he needs on defense. It looks like we’d have everything we need physically on D. And we have a great DC. But they get bullied too often.
It is not a gap, it is a gaping black hole. Joneses are the mad scientists responsible for that hole.

You said the process should start today, yes none of your suggestions are anything that can be done today.

In the off season there will be some big changes. Until then, coach them up. Really all you can do.
They need to adjust that O scheme at the very least, I'm not sure what you can do on D...you plugged in every piece and they got steam rolled.

If you think big changes are coming in the offseason I’ve got bad news for you. And have to question how closely you’ve followed this team.

How does Dallas close the gap? Simple …
Get rid of Jerry Jones so then we can dump ” he who can not be named outside of a single thread because he’s so freaking bad”.

If this team wants to close the gap and become great it has to stop investing in mediocrity and start taking big swings. The 49ers were already a good team when they went out and got CMC. They’ve been aggressive and shrewed with their business decisions and don’t let loyalty cloud their decisions.

In other words, it won’t happen on Jerry’s watch.

This is bogus ceedee has dominated great teams, go back and watch him take on bama in the cfp, he went for 100+ know why? Dak wasn’t his QB. It’s almost like people really don’t understand that when dak is removed from the equation you see a lot of winners at every level, not miss st wins but real wins. Dak sucks and we have made and continue to make excuses for him. He’s had 2 OCs, 2 head coaches, burned through two #1 WR, etc. insanity is not realizing the only person here over the last eight years that plays the most pivotal position is being given passes left and right. Don’t blame it on running when the opposition knows your QB is slow, inaccurate, can’t create, anticipate, which make your offense predictable. If he could run we would at least be able to sustain a drive beyond 3 and out. No excuse when 6/7 of those happened in first half, the QB has to be on chopping block for a lot of that. If Zach Wilson couldn’t scramble, they wouldn’t have one win right now, same with Baker, and with Hurts. They are all better bc they give their team a chance and hope goes a long way to inspire others. It was obvious with the first three possessions that he was outclassed and weak link.
