I wanted to get the boards opinions on how long and how many games coached does it take to determine
if you have the right headcoach for your team.
At the end of this season Garrett will have been HC for 3.5 seasons.

In your opinion is that enough time for Jerry to make a quality decision about Garrett ?

One School of thought is that we are improving and that it is a process, and it will take time for Garrett to get his type of players in.

The other School says that Garrett's a terrible clock manager and his offense is outdated.

Just curious how my fellow Cowboy fans feel ?

If the NFC east didn't suck this year the cowboys would probably be at best 2-6 right now and Garrett would be out after the season but due to the fact they will most likely make the play offs Jones will give Garrett a pass & probably ride it out here for the duration of at least romo 'a career with dallas

look around the league. the "process" of "getting your guys/philosophy implemented" is taking half the time to complete with other teams....why are things moving so slow in dallas? if he doesn't at least win one playoff game then you cut ties with garrett.

The length of a journey is determined from where one starts and one is going.

Oh yeah? Would love some examples.

Garret inherited a mess of a team....that was old in a ton of spots and had little depth outside of these aging veterans.

The team is more talented now and younger. Nevermind we've had horrendous luck with injuries the last two years. Call it an excuse...because it is one...but it's also true.

Garrett's show me year will be next year.

Cry about it if you want. But it's true.

And how fast they're moving.

Ok if Train A is going 68 MPH from Chicago to New York, and Train B is moving at 83 MPH from Austin to Dallas, how long will it take the Cowboys to win a superbowl?

i'm not going to cry about anything, i'm going to laugh in your face when he's fired after next year.

Today's NFL needs coaches who can adapt to what they have rather than those who need to build a team to suit their scheme.

Garrett seems to be the latter.

It does seem like he has improved the overall team attitude but that is only one part of the equation.

Maybe Jerry should promote him to GM.

Plenty of examples -- at least one ever year going back three years:

49ers from 2010 - 2011: 6-10 to 13-3 and NFC championship in Harbaugh's 1st year
Colts from 2011 - 2012: 2-14 to 11-5 in Pagano's 1st year
Chiefs from 2012 - 2013: 2-14 to projected 16-0 (obviously won't hit 16 wins but you get the picture) in Reid's 1st year

It seems that the SF coach turned things around rather quickly.

Are you really looking for a answer in years?
5 years. That will be plenty of time. I suspect JJ has already made his determination on JG and despite the heartbreaking losses, Dallas is most likely make the playoffs because of the awful division and perhaps win a game or two... This will solidify JJ decision.

Jerry doesnt make quality decisions. But, his decision nonetheless has been made. Garrett is his man to keep this team hovering around .500 for years to come. This allows Jason to "evolve and mature as a head coach" while he continues to stack practices and engineer the process.

You say we're more talented yet here we are under achieving. That's on JG

And if we had the Chiefs schedule and didn't have another ridiculous rash of penalties on the defensive side, we'd probably be 7-1, and people would be talking Garrett for coach of the year. Context.

Those are terrible examples.
Take a look at what the 49ers have been doing for 10 years before that current coach got there. They have been improving every year.

Colts? Tell me more about how Pagano did so well his first year while he wasnt even there. He was going through chemotherapy and all types of unfortunate stuff.

Chiefs? The Chief will almost certainly not even win their division. They are off to a great start and were known to be loaded with talent on the defensive side.

Huh? TTexas, do you just make this stuff up and hope nobody fact checks you?

49ers: 2004-2010 records

2010: 6-10
2009: 8-8
2008: 7-9
2007: 5-11
2006: 7-9
2005: 4-12
2004: 2-14

Those are terrible examples? All of those teams went (or will go in the case of Chiefs) from the dumpster the year before to the playoffs with their new coach.

Isn't that what Cowboy's fans want?[/quote]
