Dak has already proven all his critics wrong. He's been doing it for years.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Dak had the starting job fall into his lap? Dak beat out the encumbant Romo ON THE FOOTBALL field in games. He did that his rookie year when the team won 11 games in a row with him as QB. Heck even Romo was caught on camera on the sidelines declaring that Dak had earned it after the comeback win against Philly.

“Dak Prescott, and what he’s done, he’s earned the right to be our quarterback,” Romo said. “As hard as that is for me to say, he’s earned that right. He’s guided our team to an 8-1 record, and that’s hard to do.”
Even Romo admitted something his Stan’s can’t do.

He took the job from Romo. The job was never given to him he had one of the best rookie campaigns of all time after the team went 4-12 the previous year.
He took it because Romo got hurt and had the fortune of playing behind the best OL in the league while Zeke carried the offense. I don't call that "taking it". Had Romo not got hurt, no chance in hell Dak would have won the starting job in 2016. Sure Dak had one of the best starts of any rookie QB but as the season wore on, he was getting exposed for his limitations. Go watch that Vikings game.

Dak never beat out anybody. Both Romo and Kellen Moore got hurt. And Garrett/Linehan simplified the passing game for Dak while tilting the offense towards Zeke and the best OL in the league. And as the season wore on, Dak's limitations were being exposed.

LOL............it all makes sense now. You are an old Romo cry baby. Hating Dak because you think Romo should have remained the starter. Typical.

Romo and Moore got hurt and then he won the job on the field. By actually playing and winning.

Romo would have returned when healthy if Dak didnt earn it.

As the season wore on? You mean when we won 11 games in a row? At what point did he become "exposed"?

Although I find it laughable that you think rookie QB's are finished products.

An old Romo crybaby? Not really. There was a time I thought Romo should have won a SB. And maybe had he got the starting job back in 2016, who knows how far the Cowboys would have gone that year. But it's just as likely that he would have got hurt again. Romo's body was finished and it was good that he retired. So I don't exactly fit in your square hole.

Again go watch that Vikings game. It was clear that teams were sniffing out Dak's limitations and starting to figure out how to play Dak defensively. Dak wasn't nearly as effective for the rest of the year.

Not really? More like I nailed it.

Vikings game? LOL

But just to blow up your stance, let's take a look at the last game of the season in the playoffs where the Cowboys lost 34-31 to Rogers in the playoffs in 2016.

Dak went for 302 yards and 3 TD's with a pick and a QBR of 103.2. So what did EVERYONE figure out about Dak late in the year and why didnt the Packers do it?

What teams started doing against the Cowboys that rookie year was making the game plan to slow down Zeke and stack the box. Some teams were able to slow him down and some were not. This put more pressure on Dak to throw more and they forced Dak to beat them when they could. Which he often did.

But again, you acting like Dak was "exposed" is laughable. He was a rookie QB.

And you are defining good as what? QB's 6-15? 10-20?

Average QB's are garnering 40 million a year now. Heck Daniel Jones just got that. Which in my opinion was a huge mistake.

WE are also currently paying Dak 40 million per year and HAVE a great defense on top of it. Oline, not so much.
I wasn't defining it at all, and you're right that's an important part of this.

I guess I would say: how much is a (typical) 1st-round draft rookie contract for the QB position? And is that pick typically "good"? And by "good" here, it's probably safe to say we really just mean "adequate"... ?

Feels like we'd need to weigh $50MM annually to whatever that rookie contract annual cost is, then weigh how much better is the $50MM guy to said rookie.

He was a rookie. He struggled against the Giants to week 1.

He took it and everyone knows.

Jerry wanted Romo to bring him a ring. Dak was suppose to be a guy they could develop along the way like a Stephen McGee. Cowboys could never win without Romo. This time they did and it put a wrinkle in their plans. There was only one way for Dak to take that job and that was for him to play well. Not only did he do that but he took the locker room as well.

If Romo would’ve never gotten hurt Dak wouldn’t have started. I agree there. But he got hurt like he always did.

And you keep talking about this offensive line….so great Romo got hurt and beaten….so great they won 4 games the year prior. 2016 was a collaborative effort from everyone involved….Dak wasn’t just along for the ride…..go see Pittsburgh.

Daks contract wouldn’t be 50 million annually.

The top picks get paid around 10 million a year for 4 years.

I dont think you can get rid of a Dak until you have not only drafted his replacement, but determined that the rookie is good enough to be your next franchise type QB. Unless your team sucks already and then it makes more sense. But to be winning 12 games a year, you cant simply cut Dak.

Now could you take a chance and trade Dak for a couple of high first round picks? That would make more sense, but again you are rolling the dice that the rookie you pick will be the guy.

The way they Eagles did it is the way. Draft Hurts and the year he is ready to go you trade the encumbant for picks and help catapult your new young QB with lots of incoming young talent.

Watch out, with comments like that you'll be called a 'Hater'.
Man…..they don’t know if they want to call me a hater or lover I can’t win with either side lol. I just want to like Dak and be realistic about the situation…..like let me have that lol.

Because if he leads the league in interceptions or close to it then he will be worse than those guys…..
Thats some dumbed down logic there. The Cowboys had their best season in a long time with another 12 wins, 2nd year making the playoffs in a row and finally getting the Brady monkey off their back winning a playoff game in Tampa.
