Depends on how much money they sign him for and for how many years and how much dead cap space they would have to swallow to get rid of him. Pretty simple actually. The new contract will determine everything.

"who are we going to get to not win big games like dak once he's gone?" does it matter, he might not win big games either but what will be the difference? oh salary.. pay the man....
QB's dont win games, teams do. The team is called the "Dallas Cowboys" not the "Dak Prescotts".

11 guys on offense, 11 on defense. The QB leads the offense only. Doesnt play special teams either. Unless your HC is an idiot like Parcells and you have your starting QB holding for FG's.

But I do recall Dak playing off the chain in a big playoff game just this year. Over 300 yards and 5 TD's with a QBR of 143 if I recall correctly.

In fact, Dak has a QBR of 92.3 in 6 playoff games. 15 TDs and 5 picks. And that includes the stinker in SF this year.

we can only hope.... In those 2 centuries us dak worshipers we can keep seeing him shirtless.
What does Mahomes look like without his shirt on? Brady? Do you have posters of them above your bed so you can fall asleep dreaming about them?

He'll be a starter into his mid-to-late 30s... I'll say 36... At least his last two years will be with a really bad team... Jets or Browns.
This isnt rocket science. Dak will be the starter here until Jerry finds someone better or younger with big upside. Its that simple. Was no different with Romo.

Meh, "good" QB talent is not that hard to come by. Great QB talent is truly very hard to come by.

And that's what they're saying. They're saying that, given that great QB talent is so hard to come by, it makes no sense to pay your merely good QB great money, when you can most likely go draft a merely good QB and pay far less, using those savings to maintain a great defense and maybe a great O-line.

Have to put all those cap-hit figures on the other side of the scale when making these evaluations...
And you are defining good as what? QB's 6-15? 10-20?

Average QB's are garnering 40 million a year now. Heck Daniel Jones just got that. Which in my opinion was a huge mistake.

WE are also currently paying Dak 40 million per year and HAVE a great defense on top of it. Oline, not so much.

That epitomizes why so many fans respond in a negative way about Dak, it's not him so much as his fans.

I’m going to say max is 5 years. It could be much less, and I tend to believe it will be more like 3 more years. The reason I think this is his playing style and injury history.
I'm willing to be open-minded enough to give Dak this season to prove critics wrong. But I hate the thought of extending him right now, which is exactly what the Cowboys are going to do. I've never seen any other Cowboys starting QB go untested the way Dak has. Staubach had to earn his stripes over Craig Morton. Danny White had to wait years behind Staubach. Aikman had to deal with Steve Walsh. Romo had to wait 3 and a half years before old man Parcells gave him a shot. Dak, on the other hand, had the starting job fall into his lap his rookie season and the closest Dak has come to a QB controversy is Cooper Rush, a player who got cut at the end of training camp that no other team wanted. It's sickening!!

good job, now if the other dak worshipers could understand this
There is only a couple of overboard homers on here that think Dak is elite. The rest of us say he is a top 10 QB, which he is. Not our fault you incorrectly think the guy sucks because he isnt Mahomes. You would be hard pressed to find any QB ranking that has Dak outside top 10. most have him between 6-10. And the ones that do show him out of the top 10 have him just outside.

He took the job from Romo. The job was never given to him he had one of the best rookie campaigns of all time after the team went 4-12 the previous year.

Dak has already proven all his critics wrong. He's been doing it for years.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Dak had the starting job fall into his lap? Dak beat out the encumbant Romo ON THE FOOTBALL field in games. He did that his rookie year when the team won 11 games in a row with him as QB. Heck even Romo was caught on camera on the sidelines declaring that Dak had earned it after the comeback win against Philly.

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/16/sports/football/tony-romo-dallas-cowboys-dak-prescott.html

“Dak Prescott, and what he’s done, he’s earned the right to be our quarterback,” Romo said. “As hard as that is for me to say, he’s earned that right. He’s guided our team to an 8-1 record, and that’s hard to do.”
