Ok.....did someone say otherwise? It’s easy for some players to waste millions of dollars because they are irresponsible. The responsible players save for the future.
It's ridiculously funny to me that some keep saying "take less"!!!! Would you settle? Less money for your family? Less money for a career that might be cut short with and injury! Less money for a team that will cut you as soon as you slip? What the hell?? I get it, salary cap....blah, blah ,blah. I wouldn't settle and I sure as hell don't blame anyone that would.
Of course, there is no indication the team thinks Cooper would have to walk if they sign Dak, plus Gallup was a rookie when Cooper came and has since stepped up into a more meaningful role, plus there would be some opportunity to replace Cooper through draft, trade or free agency, plus there will be opportunities to improve the overall team through draft, trade or free agency, plus, as you said, new coaches may help, plus, even without significant changes teams still can have very different years than the previous one (obviously good or bad).Dak may not believe it but he evidence is 100% on film. The Cowboys were 3-5 before trading a first round for Cooper. Now if Dak takes top 2 QB salary cap space and Cooper has to walk, then that says to me that 9-7 was being generous unless MM makes that big of an impact his first few seasons.

I don't know that any of us know every detail of the current salary cap, or the one that is being worked on to simply make the blanket statement that we can't afford to field a defense if we pay Dak.I am a little curious how you plan to field a defense if your already overpaid offense gives their sorry qb a $30 dollar raise, give the we a raise.......is this just a miracle offense super bowl with an overpaid qb your gunning for? You do have to at least field a defense

As for Dak being a sorry QB, I don't think Dak is negotiating based on that belief, do you? The Cowboys obviously aren't either.
Without question Dak deserves a pay raise. He was massively underpaid because he was on his rookie contract and paid as a 4th round pick. Clearly he is worth much more than that.Fair statement to your first paragraph.
I think dak is trying to get paid as much as he can while he has the chance (smart move by him imo) because I don’t think he is very talented. Do you think he deserves a pay raise coming off last seasons 8-8 season? If so, how big? $30+million per season?
As a cowboy fan, no thanks, you didn’t win us any of our 8 games last year and we can def find something cheaper and better to throw crossing routes and the random “sneak a guy out to get wide open play.”
if your a cowboy fan and plan to get to the super bowl with dak as your qb you need to trade the entire offense and build the ravens defense with Trent dilfer......or you just need to move on from the qb and hope it works out. (You’ll be able to reach the bar dak set last year at 8 measly games)

As for whether he deserves to get paid like he probably will, reasonable people can have different opinions on that. I personally disagree with you on Dak's talent - he certainly isn't an elite QB, but you don't put up the numbers he did last year without a significant amount of talent.
The question is does he have enough talent combined with the overall talent of the team to win it all, and if not the team needs to do what it can to improve. I just don't think improvement at QB is as easy as some fans think. Dak isn't likely to carry the team on his back all season and through the playoffs, but outside just a very small few, how many QBs are? Elite Rodgers/Mahomes/Brees type QB's are very rare - not something a team can expect to just run out and find at will.

The market, as perceived by the Cowboys and Dak, will decide how much more. As for asking me to name that amount, I would think his market value would be somewhere a little above what Wentz signed for last year, but again, I don't know that any of us know every detail of the current salary cap, or the one that is being worked on to simply make a clear determination on what players can be paid, or how much we would have to sacrifice at other positions to pay for Dak.how much more? And at the cost of which positions will his pay raise make up for it?
Me personally, I'm actually looking at job offers right now - between a private sector company that's really buttoned-up and demands you be at work at 8AM every day and work some weekends, and a government owned lab that's a true 9 to 5, has a more laid back culture, and is near impossible to get fired from. I've still got to see how the final numbers work out, but me personally, I would gladly take less money to deal with less ****.
But I'm not a pro athlete either. These guys' careers basically span from age 22-30, with an injury that could cut it short at any given time. Jaylon Smith got shoved in the back after a play was over, next thing he knows doctors are telling him he may never walk normally again. Job security is also literally nonexistent for these guys, all you've got is contract guarantees.
So in that extreme short term, extreme high risk kind of environment, I am taking every dime I can when I can get it. It's likely that I'll never see numbers that good again.
Maybe if you are an aging star with $50+M already in the bank, you consider taking below market pay to work with a coach you like or to play for a contender. But Dak's already taken his below market pay for 4 years; he was a top 10 quarterback last year that got paid the same as our punter.
If I'm Dak, I've already done the Cowboys a solid by not holding out in 2019 and tanking their season. If the organization is committed to me, the least they can do now is offer me a fair market deal. I like the Cowboys, I like how they've installed a top 5 OL and a bunch of offensive weapons around me, but I'm not going to take a Bengals-type screwing for 4 or 5 years to stay there either.

One thing that would help is to quit drafting bums on defense with our 1st and 2nd round picks. Byron can't even catch the coronavirus, Randy couldn't lay off the weed, flipper needed his drop foot to heal and has already cashed in, LVE has a neck issue, Hill is a lazy bum, Taco was already thrown out with the trash. Hard to get a defense when you're dedicating draft resources and they aren't panning out.I am a little curious how you plan to field a defense if your already overpaid offense gives their sorry qb a $30 dollar raise, give the we a raise.......is this just a miracle offense super bowl with an overpaid qb your gunning for?
