How should we spend them 4 sixth round picks? Suggestions?

I don't think Chip Kelly has figured out the draft/free agent game yet.

I am comfident we will draft a guy with one of these that should have been UDFA.

90% of the 6th and 7th rounders have ratings very similar to UFDA targets. People fool themselves thinking you can honestly distinguish between the 200th guy on a board and the 240th.

And I am just as confident that several of the Cowboys' UDFAs will shine and show more than several of the draft picks. It happens every year with the Cowboys and with just about every other team.

And since Parcells it seems we've learned not to hang on to guys just because we picked them over UDFAs.

I'm a Mavs season ticket holder...but Mark Cuban has blown a decade worth of drafts with that dipshirt theory. Meanwhile, the Spurs, while drafting after him every year, has been dominate doing just that--drafting well.

Anyway, far more so than in the NBA, the draft is absolutely huge in the NFL.

As for the 4th rounders; the middle of this draft, well into the 3rd is full of real prospects. Odds are a few will still be around in the 4th
We better hit on at least one, and hopefully more of them.

Mark Cuban has been relevent this long witg that theory due to 1 pick he made a long time ago.

Lets see how that hold up when Dirk is gone

NIce try but I doubt any of these are available in the 6th round which is what the original poster asked.

If we havent drafted a RB, I would be hoping Keith Marshall, RB of Georgia is there. He is a 6th rounder according to Brugler and NFL draft scout has him in 5-6. He has good size and blazing speed.
Ahh, you're right. I misread and was thinking 4th round.

I think he might be learning...hopefully. His draft pick from last year is playing his butt off right now.

Excellent AbeBeta, for purposes of trade value, this is how you think. The 6th and 7th rounders are tiny considerations in trades never mind the first day but up to the 4th rounders and beyond.

B Church about the latest UDFA that has done real good here ..

Thinking of drafts there are 4 eras amongst the Cowboys:

1) Gil Brandt who is up there, but still shops up at my Tom Thumb in N Dallas for groceries, always early in the morning. I want to stop him and mess with him about the old days, but I don't .. he was fired May 1989 right when Landry was let go. Brilliant job Gil, you were a decade ahead of the game.

2) Gil hired the very best assistants, Dick Mansgerber etc. throughout the 60s and 70s and 80s (but Gil was a hiccup in the 80s - I believe it was because Gil overruled these great guys that he hired as assistants and he still wanted to draft some of the outliers like he did in the 60s - small school some of them, and was such good friends with coaches in those days that he went with "recommendations" rather than scouting. ... Remember - this was at the edge of film scouting and kind of sketchy stuff as far as scouting .. .. In this era, Gil's right hand man Dick Mansgerber was hired as director of personnel of the Seahawks (wonderful job, then came back to Cowboys .. why?)

However in 1989 after the Troy/-Moose draft thank you Gil, Gil was fired and Jerry kept his assistants on.. Gil's assistants were responsible for the wonderful Jimmy Johnson-era drafts .. wasn't due to Jimmy but due to the greatness of Mansgerber, plus a guy named Smith (?) I forgot, that was 1990-1992 drafts, the 3 best drafts of Cowboys ever .. Bob Ackles the pro-side scout - he wrote an autobio I've always wanted to buy, has anybody read it? .. Ackles worked the trade with the Vikings in a big degree ..

Then Jerry fired all the above because they were 1) Well paid .. 2) Tom Landry's guys .. 3) Jerry thought all of Jimmy's assistant coaches could draft better than the scouts ....

3) Larry Lacewell. 1993-2003 draft or so. Recommended by Jimmy, perhaps the worst blot on his legacy. Lacewell was a good man you would want to drink beer with. A story teller. Someone Jerry enjoyed time with.

4) Parcells barred Lacewell from Valley Ranch in 2004 (?) when he took over. Took his key away. Hired his own guys.

Jeff Ireland hired some of them but Parcells had the say, including letting Jeff Ireland himself go.

Parcells kept some Cowboys legacy scouts around that he liked (from the VERY old Cowboys days Tom Landry etc. ) but ...

The point of this note is that: Parcells/Ireland hired about all the current Cowboys scouts who were maybe late 20s into their 30s then, and they're late 30s into their 40s now ..

These are our scouts now. Either praise Mr. Parcells or take him down.

Jerry Jones over all these years boys and girls, has had no idea of who is good as a scout - I don't think Jerry asks or cares much - they are down the scale in his consciousness (whereas if you are a GM you should understand who drafts good of your employees and who doesn't ..) Jerry comes in before the draft and talks contracts.

What is the difference in guaranteed money between the No. 4 pick and the No. 15 pick, if you want to trade down? .. Jerry is thinking of this stuff.

If we're mad at our draft this year, blame Parcells ..

Had too much beer folks I"m out ..

They'll look for some guy who was a stud as a junior and then got hurt, kicked off the team or flunked out..... if they haven't done it sometime earlier in the draft.

At that point just take the BPA. After round 4 it's a crap shoot anyway.
