How should we spend them 4 sixth round picks? Suggestions?

Just think of an obscure player that nobody has thought of in a million years. That's a start.

Rodney Coe. That's one.

We don't have a 5th round

I bet we will once it is said and done. Jones hates to sit around through a round. Every year we are missing a pick, you always hear him talk about how he wants it back.

Yes since we didn't have a 6th last year and Jerry did everything to get a 6th........we still didn't get a 6th

We go from 135 to 189 or 54 picks. That is a long time to sit around.

Excellent AbeBeta, for purposes of trade value, this is how you think. The 6th and 7th rounders are tiny considerations in trades never mind the first day but up to the 4th rounders and beyond.

B Church about the latest UDFA that has done real good here ..

Thinking of drafts there are 4 eras amongst the Cowboys:

1) Gil Brandt who is up there, but still shops up at my Tom Thumb in N Dallas for groceries, always early in the morning. I want to stop him and mess with him about the old days, but I don't .. he was fired May 1989 right when Landry was let go. Brilliant job Gil, you were a decade ahead of the game.

2) Gil hired the very best assistants, Dick Mansgerber etc. throughout the 60s and 70s and 80s (but Gil was a hiccup in the 80s - I believe it was because Gil overruled these great guys that he hired as assistants and he still wanted to draft some of the outliers like he did in the 60s - small school some of them, and was such good friends with coaches in those days that he went with "recommendations" rather than scouting. ... Remember - this was at the edge of film scouting and kind of sketchy stuff as far as scouting .. .. In this era, Gil's right hand man Dick Mansgerber was hired as director of personnel of the Seahawks (wonderful job, then came back to Cowboys .. why?)

However in 1989 after the Troy/-Moose draft thank you Gil, Gil was fired and Jerry kept his assistants on.. Gil's assistants were responsible for the wonderful Jimmy Johnson-era drafts .. wasn't due to Jimmy but due to the greatness of Mansgerber, plus a guy named Smith (?) I forgot, that was 1990-1992 drafts, the 3 best drafts of Cowboys ever .. Bob Ackles the pro-side scout - he wrote an autobio I've always wanted to buy, has anybody read it? .. Ackles worked the trade with the Vikings in a big degree ..

Then Jerry fired all the above because they were 1) Well paid .. 2) Tom Landry's guys .. 3) Jerry thought all of Jimmy's assistant coaches could draft better than the scouts ....

3) Larry Lacewell. 1993-2003 draft or so. Recommended by Jimmy, perhaps the worst blot on his legacy. Lacewell was a good man you would want to drink beer with. A story teller. Someone Jerry enjoyed time with.

4) Parcells barred Lacewell from Valley Ranch in 2004 (?) when he took over. Took his key away. Hired his own guys.

Jeff Ireland hired some of them but Parcells had the say, including letting Jeff Ireland himself go.

Parcells kept some Cowboys legacy scouts around that he liked (from the VERY old Cowboys days Tom Landry etc. ) but ...

The point of this note is that: Parcells/Ireland hired about all the current Cowboys scouts who were maybe late 20s into their 30s then, and they're late 30s into their 40s now ..

These are our scouts now. Either praise Mr. Parcells or take him down.

Jerry Jones over all these years boys and girls, has had no idea of who is good as a scout - I don't think Jerry asks or cares much - they are down the scale in his consciousness (whereas if you are a GM you should understand who drafts good of your employees and who doesn't ..) Jerry comes in before the draft and talks contracts.

What is the difference in guaranteed money between the No. 4 pick and the No. 15 pick, if you want to trade down? .. Jerry is thinking of this stuff.

If we're mad at our draft this year, blame Parcells ..

Had too much beer folks I"m out ..

Great post. I think Parcells did a ton of good here.

He was outstanding at developing coaches and front office guys. Payton, Zimmer, Bowles, Sparano. Jerry wanted him to mentor Garrett too. The FO is less clear but culturally it has been different since he was here

I was going to say the same thing. Doubtful that our current allotment of picks is where we end up selecting. So don't ignore 5th round projections thinking the Cowboys won't be a part of the round.

Keep an eye on our first 4th round pick. That's the 3rd pick of the round. The start of day 3. After teams have had time to adjust their boards. That pick will be highly coveted in trade. You always see movement at the top of round 4.

Just a few players ranked higher than 100 (so 4th red maybe) by DraftScouts.
Maybe some will go earlier, but all

DE, Bronson Kaufusi
DT, Sheldon Day
RB, Paul Perkins
RB, CJ Prossie
QB, Cardale Jones
CB, DJ White
DE, Jihad Ward
QB, Dak Prescott
TE, Bryce Williams

Some good players on that list!

Going FB is a great way to snag a starter in the 6th and we have a need.

Also would not mind taking a flyer on Rico Gathers, the Baylor power forward. I hear conflicting reports about whether he's even in this draft though.

My favorite under the radar type is DJ Hunter at Marshall. Hunter played WLB but he's about 5-11/205 and ran sub 4.4. He played SS back in his Sophomore year. He was a 4* CB in HS and initially committed to Tennessee. Scholarship was revoked due to felony assault and domestic violence incidents while a HS student. Might not be an RKG or he might have grown up. He'll also be 26 in August. That all said, his speed really shows up on the field. He's a missile. He could be a dynamite LB/S hybrid. Will also be great on special teams for some team. Might be more of a UDFA guy.

**May want to mute your computer before playing. Background music is just some generic bass and drums but it's annoying.

All Vontaze Burfict types.

Tyler Higbee isn't nuts like Burfict, but he is a 4th round type who just screwed up royally this past weekend and was also coming off a knee injury this past season. Might slip. He's a TE. Really good.

Western Kentucky's Tyler Higbee was arrested and charged Sunday morning with second-degree assault, second-degree fleeing or evading police, and public intoxication, according to the Bowling Green Daily News. He was booked at 2:41 a.m. and was held on a bond of $10,000.

We could use them in part of a deal to trade up somewhere. Other than that, I would look at athletes that can play special teams and zone corner types.

Take whomever is still there out of this group and place them on a donkey's butt. Then have Jerry throw a dart at 5 feet and hopefully he can hit the donkey's butt. That will be as good as we've been doing with late round picks lately.

Our luck, we'd turn the card in as
Butt, Donkey

Draft Pet Cats that might be able to either give you a few plays a game, or might develop.

1) Jakeem Grant -- or draft him even earlier. Return guy and "Beasley if injured" replacement.
2) Mike Matthews -- good family, and although small, smart and knows the NFL
3) Tra Carson -- if you don't get your power back anywhere else, then here is a good place
4) Deandre Washington -- scat back, good Dunbar replacement or at least competition.
5) LaQuan McGowan -- my biggest pet cat.......... Fullback - no more than we use one, he could be the short yardage fullback. Blocking Tight End -- no more often than Witten comes off the field, he could be the blocking TE. H-Back -- On short yardage crack backs, etc he would take up enough space to be a nice blocker........and he can catch a little bit in the red zone as well. Might never be a true starter, but might be a good specialist.

Pick a few of these guys for specialist roles.

Great point....heaven forbid we use it on one of those guys that is mysteriously still there. We could trade down though, get a lower 4th and then a 5th, and I wouldn't be surprised if we traded our first 6th for several 7th rounders.

As for the Chip Kelly comment and trading our 6ths to him for firsts, it seems completely plausible except the comp picks aren't tradeable.

LOL to the guy thinking Cardale Jones or Prescott is going to be there in the 6th.
