How are they trying to beat the system when some of these deals are top contracts? Zeke's old deal, lamb's etc etc etc
They are saying even if the Cowboys get the Prescott contract signed that implies a low bar consideration only. What if winning improves with the sum of changes and directions.

Right now for next year's draft:
defensive tackle
running back
linebacker

one prominent free agent next season

I give Dan Rogers credit. He tries to explain why the Cowboys FO operates the way they do and does a decent job.

There is a method to the madness of the Cowboys penny-pinching ways.

As we come down to another contract deadline, the Dallas Cowboys continue to find themselves in another financial standoff with a star player. It’s become such a common thing for this organization and it’s been all anyone’s talking about over the summer. This is the way the front office works. It’s beyond frustrating for fans and it’s a never-ending supply of storylines for the media. This is the Cowboys' way.

The difficult thing to understand about all this is why the front office chooses to operate in this manner.

For years, the Joneses have sat in their suite and watched helplessly as another high-expectation season comes crashing to a halt. They have no control over how the players perform in those games or how the coaches coach. All they can do is provide the best possible roster. And while many disagree with their approach, the front office continues to look for an edge, and like it or not, this remains the Cowboys' way.

The problem I have, and I think most fans have, is that I get this idea of trying to save money and not overspend in Free Agency. But if they truly felt that had the tram to compete for a Super Bowl, can't you do it for one or two off seasons where you just add 1 or two top free agents? They don't need to add 7 high priced free agents, just 1, maybe two. That does not put you in this so-called cap hell. If you draft well as we do, you can still be competitive when those contracts hit the books. Look at the Rams. They went all in and signed and traded for a bunch a players. Had no draft picks for a while. Won the SB and then when they had issues with the cap, they went 5-12 one year and the next year they were back to a 10-7 season and in the playoffs.

There is nothing in that article that implies they are trying to cheat the system to get over the hump. I wasted my time reading it. All it says is that the Cowboys lowball players. A few million here or there is not cheating the system. It's not making a difference. It's clickbait.
I think the way the worded (to get us to click) is really the issue. But I understand the overall premise. The formula to get to the next level when you DO NOT have a Patrick Mahomes requires adding FA to fill a hole and/or getting a young innovative head coach. The funny thing is, the Cowboys were grooming their "young innovative head coach" in Kellen Moore....that is why Jason Garret AND Mike McCarthy were basically told to "leave Kellen Moore alone".

But therein lies the problem the Cowboys will always have with the Jones family in charge. They have an inflated opinion of their football acumen. Kellen Moore NEVER proved he was ready to be the next big thing in football coaching. Actually, what "football tree" did Kellen Moore come from? What made them think he was Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay etc....? It was the Dallas hype machine....which is what the Jones specialize in....it was NEVER rooted in actual solid football analysis....because THEY DO NOT POSSSES THAT!!!!!!!!!

I'm old enough to remember when Jerry said if he did not extend Jasson Garrett every NFL team would jump at the chance to make them their head coach(I am paraphrasing) Jason Garrett has not been a head coach since he left Dallas and will probably NEVER be again. Not only that...what has his coaching tree produced? Again, the Jones boys inflated opinion about their football acumen led them to conclude Jason Garrett was the next Tom Landry. Combine the star on our helmet and reference a Cowboys coaching legend like Landry and the HYPE machine was in full swing.

I won't say the Jones boys are total duds as "football men" But their football chops ain't even close to being good enough to warrant doing it their way for almost 30 straight years

Step it up to Hillbilly song level. You bet, power that homefield advantage with a non-stop crying. Blame not on how strong play has been, just cry it out.

This season is a very strong season with progress and defineable leadership identifiable as well. 3 consecutive 12 win seasons and still no loyalty but crying before even seeing any play.

There is plenty of change, but the crying of so called 'fans.'

when all you want is relevancy....
Yeah, that's my argument. The model has proven to be ineffective.

Your best chance is put all your chips in at some point, and come out swinging.

Win or lose hardship will follow, but at least you take your shot and if it fails your rebuilding. No half measures.

Especially when you have 28 straight years of proof from the same front office.

You know what else is easy? Quitting and moving to Hawaii.
The only thing not changing here is crying no matter what. You go Cowboy....gasoline is down to about $3.33 per gallon. Replace Jerry with AI.

Oh sure, don't lose your hard earned money.

I am hoping that Jerry is finally realizing that there has been a singular problem that has kept the Cowboys from achieving success.
He was too stubborn to replace Jason Garrett and some very good rosters got wasted over the thirteen years Garrett was in Dallas.
Now eight years have been wasted, and some very good rosters during that time due to a glaring weakness at quarterback.
While he finally acquired a real head coach to lead the roster, he saddled that coach with the quarterback Garrett had taught to be like himself; no accountability.
I still maintain that at least four, if not more of these rosters were good enough to reach the Super Bowl and win it. The teams from 2015, 2016, 2022 and 2023 were top caliber. And let's not forget 2007.
Each time the Cowboys season ended because of the lack of either a quarterback or a head coach- or both.

Actually criticism takes thinking and pom pom waving, like you do constantly, just requires lack of a brain
Where does that put one's annual crybaby creed? I don't buy failure objectivity from the start. Now lie something and watch.

Just as easy to homer away the years, trusting in ole Jere.

Almost 30 years and counting. No stat, no $s, no excuse, no argument is relevant. 30. Years.
He doesn't trust Jerry any more than we do. He's just on this idiotic quest to appear to be Mr positivity here.......ask him about Trey Lance and the faux positivity goes bye bye
