He was actually done in Miami before he quit. Robert Jones, who played for him both in Dallas and Miami say it was a different, less intense Jimmy.
I’d say that was probably more to do with the fact that Marino was basically done, but Jimmy kept him playing.
Jones basically said he thinks it may have been partly influenced because the players in Miami didn’t respond in the same way as they did in Dallas.
Maybe the teammates probably also saw Marino done but the fact he wasn’t being benched may have influenced their response to Jimmy. I remember reading there was a stretch where Marino’s backup went 5-1, so you can imagine what it would be like to re-insert a guy that had nothing left in the tank.
Marino was a shell of himself and lost arm strength and plagued by injuries and turned the ball over plenty.
