I know this has about as much of a chance of happening as a snowball's chance in hell, but if Jimmy Johnson were to be lured out of retirement by Jerry, how would you feel about it, and what would be the result

5 years $60 Million might do it.

There is not enough money in the world for Jimmy to work with Jerry anymore. Yes they made up and thats all great, but its a pipe dream. Jimmy is never ever coming back and Jimmy will never deal with Jerry and the way he runs a football team.

Its why we are stuck with the Jason Garretts of the world. Coaches who are just happy they have a job can work with Jerry. If you have an ounce of pride and have and know what it takes how to coach a winning team properly than you can never work with Jerry. Its just how its going to be until Jerry gets old enough where he cant be around anymore. We are screwed people. It is what it is. Mediorce results rule the day. The stadium sells out every game. The Cowboys are worth a billion dollars. Jerry thinks he is a genius. Nothing is going to change.

Jimmy wanted out himself. I think he's happy doing whatever he does. Why risk reputation at this point of his life? Besides we wouldn't take on that challenge. Look what the raiders did to lure gruden back. Talk about stupid.

Part of Booger's drive to get that "football man" label is Johnson. He won't even put him in the ROH and he's going to bring him back and admit he failed?

And did Johnson prove he could do it once FA and the cap kicked in? Any HC that can walk away after a 62-7 playoff defeat is done. The fire burned out.

Holy smoke, people need to let go of this. Some here are stuck in 1995. Time to move on.

Jerry will drop dead someday and we'll have guys saying "Alright, now we can bring Jimmy back!"

I would be pleased if they would hire the next Jimmy Johnson. One that knows the college game and the players because he and his team actively scouted them. One who is shred and can negotiate for players in a way the Cowboys come out on top.

Jimmy's advantage was that he and his staff knew the college recruits better than any scout in the game because they not only scouted them for recruitment, but the then scouted them to play against them. This was invaluable and the component Jimmy did not have at the Dolphins.

While Jimmy would not do this, and even is he did, he would not have the same results because he is not immersed in the college game as he was. The man who takes Garrett's place needs to be what Jimmy was. A winner, brilliant, a leader and a task master. And one who understands the players in college and can find the ones who have a skill set with w ceiling of all pro.

Then get him the number one over all pick and let's get this done.

It would be exciting and cool for a while but I would hate to see people trash on him or the team at any little sign of adversity.

jimmy and jerry are approximately the same age. jimmy looks 20 years younger. he is quite happy with his life as he rebuilds from the hurricane. it would appear the pursuit of wahoo keep jimmy happy. if you're ever in the keys, be sure to eat at his restaurant, the big chill.

Won’t give the OP too much grief, because time does get away from all of us, but Jimmy would instantly be the oldest coach in NFL history (by more than a couple of years) on day one of any deal he signed. That’s how far out it would be...

I'm not suggesting we bring him back. I also prefaced my post by saying it would be unlikely to happen. The question is how the individual fans would feel about it.

Some of you definitely have reading comprehension issues. This thread is not about whether Jimmy would come back or not.

The question is if he came back how would you feel about it? How do you think he would fare if he came back to the Cowboys?

Going with your premise (rather than just saying he'd never do that), I'm not sure that Johnson would have the same kind of success he had in the 1990s. There was a lot that went into our success then, including the Herschel Walker trade, the lack of a salary cap and limited free agency.

He was not able to duplicate his success in Miami despite having Dan Marino. (He did make the playoffs three out of four years, though.)

I do think our defenses would be better under him and that he deserves more credit than he probably receives for how good our defenses were in the early 90s. I'd be interested in seeing what he could do even though my expectations would not be for him to produce Super Bowl victories like he did when everything lined up right the first time around.

I think Jimmy was actually frustrated he had to deal with a Marino that had a significantly declining skill set.
