How would you really feel about Lance if he had to start a game for us?

I don't expect much from a backup quarterback besides handing the ball off in cases of short starter absences and to lose a lot of games in cases of long starter absences.

So I'm fine.

What would your feelings be if he had to start a game this season due to the starter being out for whatever reason? Has he shown enough that he can command this offense and help us win a game if needed?? Please give your thoughts

Lance did ok , but nothing that can win a playoff game or lift the team at that position the run game is still suspect and he will face many tough throws . He is still inaccurate and a bit sloppy at times . He has some flashy runs and throws but it is obvious he is still green .
bottom line , he is not the answer for the future .

I would feel better and better as the game went on as long as the booze held out for my drinking game of "take a shot for every dump off pass."

We would be screwed with Lance if we can’t run the football and our defense isn’t playing well. He played better last night after a shaky start because we had a running game and he wasn’t having to throw the ball 40+ times. He only attempted 23 passes. He has accuracy issues with overthrows and balls behind the receiver.

Wow, Dak has never overthrown balls or thrown behind the receiver, huh? His passes are the most accurate of any QB that has ever played the game.

See, how stupid that sounds.

He has shown enough to get wins. He protects the ball, will use legs if needed. He might get the wr’s killed though.

It either means he earned it or it’s due to injury.

If it’s the former then it’s likely a good thing. If it’s the latter, not necessarily so, but the same thing happened to Romo/Moore for Dak.

Not very good, but I would differently pull for him.

I would expect an L and be pleasantly surprised if we kept it close
The only chance we would have with Lance is to keep the game close. If we had to play come back with him, it could get ugly. He throws a lot of balls out in the flat and underneath. He needs to push the ball down the field more but that’s where we would likely run into trouble with him in a game where we can’t run the ball and our defense is struggling.

Whether he or limp arm Rush played-depending on wh we played. The defense better not give up more than 10....

What if Trey starts against SF ... and wins ...
He wouldn't throw for 50 yards against them right now. He's got a long way to go to face real defenses running real schemes.

He's playing base defenses with predominantly non-NFL talent right now.

If Jerry extends Dak which all indications are he will and Lance is a FA next season , that’s zero chance Trey Lance is in Dallas next season . He’s going to want to go where he can compete to start .

Basically you spent a 4th round pick on a one yr back up QB . Last year he contributed not at all . What was wrong with Rush having the job without Lance and you kept your 4th rounder .

I’m not sure. I wouldn’t want him dropping back to pass 40 times.

But a run first game plan. Some read options, RPO’s and one read plays? He could be effective in the short term.

Lost game in the making if he had to take over for an injured Dak, imo

good that he had to go against 3rd stringers and bubble guys. .. a real defense would eat him alive as
his lack of accuracy and read field vision would be that much more exposed ...

They won't we never unleashed Daks running ability when he was younger and had the ability. We will make Lance a drop back passer guaranteed.
That’s not true. Teams started putting a spy on him after his first year and he scrubbed.

https://www.dailybreeze.com/2017/11...cott-despite-cowboys-offensive-struggles/amp/

The 24-year-old enters Thursday’s game (1:30 p.m. PT, CBS) having run for 11 touchdowns since the Cowboys drafted him in the fourth round in 2016 — the most by any NFL quarterback over that span. But that’s not the only threat his legs present. In addition to quarterback draws in the red zone and third-down scrambles, Prescott’s escapability allows him to extend plays that — for some quarterbacks — would have ended in a throwaway or a sack.

MM knows his mental toughness
Lets find out if he is fragile under fire
......like our current QB seems to be

If he can continue to shake off adversity and not get glazed eyes... huge huge plus
So far he has in his career.

Not sure he is a "master of the system" as MM declared 2 weeks ago

But...he took a step fwd, reward him
Karma from there
