The emergence of Bass takes the sting out of Mazi’s performance so far. We got a future trench warrior in Bass. I feel the games are won in the trenches so my opinion of a good draft is getting at least one player that can contribute on the offensive or defensive line. We got that in Bass. Last year we got that in Tyler, before that it was Parsons.

So I’m thinking next season we’ll see a 2nd year jump with Mazi and Bass. I don’t think Mazi is a Taco type bust. I don’t think we have enough sample size to warrant that. If next year Mazi can be an above average starter then we added a starter on the offensive and defensive line.

The pick I’m butthurt about is Schoonmaker. That’s the one I’m mad about. But what can you do? Hopefully he makes a 2nd year jump. But I feel Schoonmaker was a worse pick and a bigger disappointment than Mazi. Mazi just gets more attention.
i thought they both were reaches

You didn’t hear Broadus say the Cowboys wanted him to drop weight. You heard him say he dropped weight and enough weight where the Cowboys were concerned with it.
I swear this place sometimes…
Here's Bobby talking about it. He says "They" so he isn't blaming Mazi or a sickness.

8:16 mark

No NFL rookie comes in as strong as the veterans across from him.
But but but we heard in training camp how dominant he was and hasnt done much but take up oxygen. I was actually stupid enough to believe he was a good pick at the time. All good players flash something their rookie season.

I mean what did you want him to flash? I just don’t know how much a 1 tech can flash for you…it’s been two years and Jordan Davis looks abysmal.

He almost took Michael Parsons out for the season.

Any educated view on how he played toward the end of the season?

I did see him make one tackle, unfortunately it was on Parson lol, but in all seriousness would appreciate any views. thx
reminds me of Taco Charlton. not sure if he can overcome his deficiencies. can't get off the blocks. his get-off is slow slow slow. as big and strong as he is supposed to be, he get moved easily.

I'm very encouraged by Mazi when I watch the tape of him over the first month of the season vs the last month of the season. Granted most of his improvement has taken him mostly from 'bad' to 'non factor' but he is still trending in the right direction. He is consistently getting off the ball at a reasonable rate over the last several weeks, shows a solid bull rush move where he has a knack of getting olinemen off balance, and has held his own very well 1v1 in the run game a lot of the time. Where he has struggled really seems to be in block recognition as hes still getting beat bad by down blocks and falls for trap blocks almost every time. In double teams he gets pushed back more than you'd like, but on the plus side he doesnt give the 2nd blocker an easy off to get to the backer either. I mentioned that he has a nice bull rush move, but doesnt have a second move to play off that at all....hes attempted some rip moves every now and then but they are mostly pretty weak. He wasn't drafted as this great pass rush specialist so that is sort of to be expected. I think if he can develop something to play off of that bull rush he has some pass rush potential in him. At this point he's like a C-/D+ type of player, but I certainly see why the Cowboys think his ceiling is so high. I really think the guy needs a full offseason at the pro level and reps. 2024 is going to be very telling about Mazi.

yea sure. every draft has 32 first round rated players in it. If only Jerry would hire the experts on here. We would find day 1 stars every round every year. :oldcouple:
I wish Jerry would hire someone other than himself or family

He was drafted at 323, if he's 295 that would be losing 28 pounds.
I see that's what his combine weight was, He was listed at 337 at Michigan and at the time of the draft.

Even if it is 28 lbs, that's not great for a run-stuffing 1Tech that was supposed to help the run defense.

this is great - thanks. I admit I'm not a film watcher so I appreciate this level of detail
