Hurts update sounds more serious than first reported

Hurts is an excellent running QB. But ALL running QBs are a ticking time bomb for an injury. The history of this league has shown if you want your QB running the ball more than a few times a game, be prepared to use your backup.

I like Sean Peyton's approach of having a solid running QB to substitute in when wanted. It lets the team take advantage of that "extra blocker" sometimes but not subject your main QB to the injuries that come with running the ball.

We actually need the Giants to lose against the Colts. So the Giants have something to play for in that last game. If they clinch a playoff spot this week, they too could be resting starters in that last game against the Eagles.
Giving the Eagles a better chance to win even without Hurts.
That's what I posted in another thread.

We really have no idea if the division or even #1 seed is possible until after this week because if the Giants beat the Colts they have nothing to gain by beating the Eagles in the last game, especially since they may end up playing them again in the playoffs 2 weeks later if they win their wildcard game and the Eagles are the #1 seed.

If the Boys were in the same predicament, they would probably be saying the same thing too. The Eagles want to keep teams guessing about their MVP QB and that's okay because I think he's going to play in the last game of the season if the Boys win on Thursday and they lose their next game.

If the injury wasn’t that serious they would play him on Sunday to lock up the NFC East and the first seed. That way they could rest him in week 18. If the Cowboys win tomorrow night and Hurts doesn’t play on Sunday and Philly loses it’s going to get real interesting in week 18.

"going to get real interesting in week 18". Yes, and that's what the NFL dearly loves - drama and excitement with the teams' finales. (big ratings)

Much like the Star and other teams they are just making you guess. dont believe anything with teams report extent of injuries because that part of the gamesmanship. all they are required to do is depth the injury everything else they want to keep top secret to keep teams guessing.

I don't understand why they run him into the ground. You drafted Smith and traded for Brown to allow you to sling the football. That's a them problem though

Yep. See RG3. Came in and lit the league on fire. Turned around a very bad Washington team. Was never the same after his injuries. Didn't help his coach sold him out to try and win his rookie year and pretty much ruined him.

Hurts will have to figure out how to win long term from the pocket. And pick his spots to run. He's still too reliant on the run to succeed. Mahomes and Josh Allen pick their spots and are efficient when they take off but they don't need that aspect to succeed. Hurts does right now. NFL coaches live and breathe their jobs. They will figure out how to contain and stop him over time. It happened to Kap, too. He was an excellent runner and killed teams with it early on. Until they figured him out, he had to rely on being a pocket passer and went downhill. Hurts is still very shaky as a passer when I watch him.

Because he relies on his feet to be a threat. He has never been a straight drop back passer going back to college. Not sure when or if he will be. Hard to change that. And if you are, then how effective will you be? Take away Hurts legs, and he's very average.

Exactly! It will eventually get Josh Allen too. Just like with Cam Newton.

1000% RIGHT. Its a double edged sword.

From what I have read Hurts has a grade 2 sprain in his throwing shoulder, visible tear in the ligaments. He may come back week 18 if need be but there is still uncertainty of how his shoulder will respond.

Thanks for this. I didn't see exactly what the injury is. Having had a bad shoulder and having had surgery for it I know the remedy is rest and PT first. Surgery as a last resort. 3 weeks of rest and PT should be enough for a minor sprain. The tears have to heal though because partial tears or micro tears can become full blown detachments of the tendon if the tendon is over exerted again. I had to lay off golf for a month while I went to PT for my shoulder problem. But I had no strain of the tendons. That didn't resolve the issue so I had to have it surgically repaired. Then I was out of action for 6 months. But again, I didn't have any tears.

He will play and risk it. How effective he will be? that is the million dollar question

If some of the comments in this thread were made by Philly fans regarding an injury to a Cowboy player, people would be raging about the "inbred losers" that comprise the iggles fan base.....

I'm not urging sympathy for the eagles. Football is a rough game and injuries are part of it. Particularly as @Bobhaze noted for running QBs. Injuries hit every team and you have to overcome them

Just interesting to witness in real time as some people make light of JHs injuries

I'd be more worried about reinjury. They can numb the pain with shots and cold packs. But if he tries to throw a 50 or 60 yard pass and his tears haven't healed he risks a full tear and detachment. For a QG that kind of injury in his throwing arm could be career threatening.

I never wish injury on another team. Karma and all that. But discussing his injury clinically, and the impact his injury has on the team is acceptable for any team's fans. But who can forget the Eagles fans cheering when Michael Irvin was carted taken off the field with a neck injury?

I agree, hell even taking a big shot while running the ball, Hurts tends to take on defenders instead of sliding. But again I do expect him to play and the question of how he will respond is a question mark.

100% agreed

The playmaker incident was despicable by eagles fans

To be fair it was a small scattering of comments making light. Most of this thread is legit discussion

It just makes me a little queasy when people joke about stuff like that. Even if they are not serious
