This was a Broaddus question that I think is interesting.

If you're weeks into camp and you feel good about the rookie OL are you willing to trade T.J. Bass (who Broaddus believes the league missed on and should have been drafted) for DL depth and DT in particular?

I guess the obvious answer is it depends on who that DL is, so let me tweak it. If you feel good about those rookies weeks into camp are you looking to trade Bass for a comparable DT?

You can NEVER have enough depth on the offensive line, and until they put pads on and actually play games, I'm not placing too much stock into rookies....

Edoga might not make the roster....Ball, Waletzko can't stay healthy and are on their last legs with this team....Martin might be in his last year in Dallas.

So as it stands right now, these are my ten...Guyton, Smith, Beebe, Martin, Steele slated to start

Bass(guard/center), Richards, Hoffman, Edoga, Thomas(project)

Would have to be a quality DT. I like the idea of Bass eventually taking over at RG. For me to trade that, it would have to be for a guy we would 500 or so quality snaps from the next couple years

I will say I dont know that such a deal would exist. Bass's tape from last year says he is playable as a starter, but not someone you want starting. So I dont think a team would up a viable DT for him right now. He still has to improve before he is a starting quality player

I think it depends on what you plan to do with Martin next year. If Bass continues to look like he might be a starter and you aren't going to re-sign Martin, then you give Bass a shot at replacing him next year. Of course, then the question might become why not trade Martin now while you can get something for him instead of just letting him walk?

I think a more viable trade piece, though, could be Asim Richards. We drafted our left tackle, so he's relegated to depth despite looking like he might be a decent LT prospect. Frankly, I wouldn't have brought Edoga back, but I guess he's the gameday swing tackle. Frankly, I'd rather get rid of him, but he has no trade value.

We dont actually know who can play until multiple weeks into the season. When it is ones versus ones every play. At this point I am signing off on Zack and Tyler. Thats it.

Because martin provides guidance and a fire to aspire...might be priceless to the youngster.

I wouldn’t trade Osa for a player of Bass’s quality. I assume GMs around the league would see like I do. So Bass would fetch a player of lower quality than Osa.

I don’t think that quality of player helps enough on the DL to make me want to go out looking for a trade. But I’ll take calls.

I gotta see Guyton's performance as a starting LT first.
I know, 2 different positions, but I still prefer Tyler at LT and Bass at LG.

So Guyton would need to prove he is the real deal first for me to give away Bass.

Sea Bass is a pet cat of mine, but I am willing to trade anybody for the right price.
Broaddus attempting to use logic has worse results than if they signed me replace Zack Martin...

Make it a general question, not specific to the Cowboys...

If a quality NFL GM tried to trade an unproven 2nd year UDFA OLineman for a draft pick, what would they get?

Now, if a quality NFL GM had a good young DT, what draft pick would they take for that player?

Answers:
Another team would want at least a mid-round pick for a good young DT. They won't get it because he is unproven; therefore, they would just keep him.

Any team could have signed Bass last year as a UDFA. What has he done to elevate himself to mid-round pick value? He looked ok in 2 starts, but many players have done that without really proving anything long term.
