I’m still burned up about the SF game. Is this normal?

Folks I’m 33 I’ve never really seen a SuperBowl. Usually each year my buddy and I go to the home opener wherever it may be and this is the first year in awhile I said no thanks I’m just going to watch from home. I’ve reached that point for the first time in my fandom where they need to show me before I spend, especially with how pricey things are anymore. I know I’m not the only one whose frustrated, but not even the Dez Caught It game had those feelings lingering as long as our last loss for me (maybe because we got screwed that game and this time we screwed ourselves). I’m looking forward to the season but I just can’t hand over my credit card till I see something different

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with you feeling this way. First, it’s your hard-earned money, why spend so much of it on something that ultimately disappoints you.

Secondly, the 2021season was an incredible missed opportunity for this team. Arguably one of it’s biggest ever. It’s perfectly reasonable to have anger and frustration. You have plenty of company.

When I saw the thread title I was surprised. Now that I see your age I understand your frustration.

I'm in my 50s, fortunate to have seen Cowboys Super Bowl teams. The Niners loss didn't upset me much because it didn't surprise me at all. That Cowboys team did not have the look of a true SB contender. It was a product of beating up on bad teams and lost to just about every good one it faced. I didn't expect a playoff run.

I used to make road trips to games every year (I'm from Ohio). That stopped about a decade ago, as prices rose and the product on the field failed to deliver time and again. I'm also in prove it mode - give me a reason to buy in, again. For me, that will only come with postseason success.

Yup. You should be pissed. We all should. It’s not just that they lost in the playoffs— again.

It’s the WAY that they lost that is so revealing and disheartening.

They got bullied.
They came out flat.
They played gutless football for 3 quarters.
The coaches did not respond to adversity.
The players were like deer in the headlights.

In short— this team was exposed as a fraud. A talented fraud. Lots of players who think they’re “elite”— but this team lacks the football character, discipline, heart, and will to compete at the highest levels.

That is why I think you, me, and many fans are still in a place of disappointment. Nothing has changed. The roots and problems within the organization are still present— so why will the results be any different going fwd?

I’m still bummed about the Ice Bowl game loss. Our defense could not hold them on the last drive and the qb sneak was the last nail in the coffin.
Looking back the good outweighs the bad. Most important was good family time with my dad and brothers.
Yes it’s normal. I try to look for a positive but I know it’s tough for fans that weren’t around for any SBs. Hang in there. My 2 cents

Lol, it's been a long time since anything this team did or actually failed to do has bothered me for any length of time. To me this shows you are totally invested in the team and really believe that they can make some noise, that's something many of us have sadly lost long ago

I had trips planned to Nashville and Jacksonville this year to watch the Boys play, trips that's I've since cancelled. I used to pay my hard earned money to subscribe to the Cowboys fan club, and is buy a new jersey every year. Not anymore. I used to love draft coverage and consumed Dallas radio all day every day. I didn't even watch most of the draft this year and couldn't tell you the last time I tuned into the Fan. Something happened to me the night we lost to SF.

It wasn't even that we lost in the postseason again. It was the GM arrogantly being shocked by it. Jerry couldn't believe it, when everyone who knows anything about football predicted it the entire week before. Vegas didn't even trust Dallas, and they won 12 games. It's that kind of hubris and ineptitude from this Front Office that makes me wonder if I can even do it anymore. History tells me that this season will be a wash and we likely won't make the postseason. How the hell can you be excited about that?

Dont spend money on anything cowboys related, jerseys etc. watch games at home.
People who buy the merchandise, and go to games empower jerry, and make him think he is doing a good job as GM.

The one good thing about that wc loss to SF , is that jerry and his boy got burned up and bummed out too ! lol
So I enjoy that aspect.
Dont get fooled by season records, look at who dallas loses too. If they cant beat teams like LA, TB, Cin , GB then they are not going to win or go far
in playoffs.

Is it normal ? That depends on what type of fan you are, some here are still mad about things from 60 years ago lol.
It isnt normal, but they think it is.
I used to get bummed out when dallas lost, but overcame that back in 2009 when they got beat down by the vikings.
After that I decided to not let them losing bother me.

For me it was the 2009 vikings game.
But I think the cowboys will make playoffs, either as div winner, or wc. Look at how they do against the good teams, not the record.
And take comfort in the fact that ol jerry was bummed out and mad, and probably still is over that SF game.
Jerry is a fan too, and that hurts him in running the team, he sees it all from his fanboy point of view. He was a fan of elliot, so he paid him way
too much lol, and is a fan of Dak so paid him big etc etc. He wasnt a fan of amari, so let him go for peanuts.

So anything that bums him out I can get joy from that. And that SF game did surprise him and bum him out, so I get a little joy from knowing that.

At the end of the day they scored 23 points... Our QB led us to a whopping 17 points. If someone told you before the game that our defense would hold the Niners to 23 points you're feeling pretty good about it.

The 2014 playoff loss at Green Bay kind of broke me, so I get it.
But at least Dallas played well in the 2014, but just lost on some bad breaks (and refs?). Can't say the same about last year.
I have not been the same level of fan since then though.....and never will be.

Part of it is maturity the other is just a worn-down sports fan (goes for all sports, btw)

This is spot on how I feel. The Dez no-catch game broke my emotional attachment to this league. The Cowboys should have won that game, and the league stole it from them.

Wins and losses no longer surprise me or bother me. I just loosely still "follow" the team out of basic amusement and boredom. Nothing else really.

And like you said......I'm sure maturity has affected me too. Eventually you realize that this is only just an inconsequential game that has no meaning in the grand scheme of life and eternity.

When I was younger, losses used to hurt badly.
When Leon Lett committed that Thanksgiving Day blunder, I lost my appetite and went straight to bed.
Another time, after a Cowboys loss, a girl-friend of mine came over for some "comfort" but I wasn't having it.
And I still can't watch "The Catch" game.
However, as I get older, get more mature about life and get more jaded towards Cowboys ownership, I don't get upset like I used to.
I had a chance to experience the "Glory Days" of the 90s and that has provided a bit of solace for 25-plus years of desolation.
As sad as it is to say, I expect the Cowboys to lose. Some way, some how, we'll find a way to mess up, botch things, lose.
I'm looking to be surprised but prepared for the inevitable.

If someone told you the Cowboys had 14 penalties, allowed 170 rushing yds., and terrible clock management issues would you think we won the game? Hell... would you think we scored 17 points? Dak was one of the main reasons we were in position to win, in spite of the teams mistakes.

I'm not saying Dak was flawless, just that the loss isn't on him alone like some are saying.

I'm 34, was at that game, and I'm right there with you. That was the game that finally broke me and soured me on Dak until he proves differently. I've felt meh all offseason. Didn't follow the draft as closely as usual, didn't care about the schedule release, etc. We are only 2 months away from training camp and my level of excitement is at 0. I'm especially sick of the Jones'. I'll always watch every game and pull for the team but my eyes were open and it made me understand the perspective of posters I'd previously referred to as "haters". The last time this team was in the NFCC I was 7 and now I'm 6 years away from 40. Pathetic.
