I admit I should not have bought what was being sold

I’m almost there with you? But what’s the changes you need to see? It’s not realistic for us to think Jerry would ever step down. So with that being said, what are the changes you think we need?
1. (Won’t happen) Jerry steps down. Hires a GM
2. New GM announces a rebuild.
3. New GM hires a new HC that is a modern offensive mind.
4. New HC hires his own staff.
5. New GM conducts off-season moves including draft and free agency.
6. The Jones family takes a long cruise somewhere and is not seen or heard from during all this except to announce the changes.

All that happens and I would have hope.

I will admit it. I bought the bill of goods. I believed this team was different and capable of at the very least being capable of a deep playoff run. I was dead wrong.

And amazingly, until this season I usually started the season saying, “I will believe it when it happens.” I bought that this team, this coaching staff was positioned to be different. Again, I was as wrong as that putrid performance yesterday.

As of last night, I am returning to “I will believe it when it happens.” Not before.

For me, “buying in” won’t happen until I see some meaningful changes made at the top of this organization. An organization led by a man that never takes ultimate responsibility for his team’s failures and will never make a fundamental change in the way he operates. It won’t matter who is coaching or QBing this team until that changes.

How about you? What will it take to make you believe again?
No TE's before the 4th round.
Bring in a good tough yards RB and use him. Draft, FA, doesn't matter.
Do whatever it takes to get a disruptive 3 tech in here. Use Osa to spell him.
Get 3 starting LB's in here. Yes, I know, tall order. Hold it.............Overshown. Make it 2.
Start bringing in maulers for the OL, not more ballet dancers.
Quit drafting projects before the 6th round.
Get a playcalling mastermind here. Josh McDaniels as OC. Someone like him.
Get a nasty DC in here. Vrabel if he'd come.

I agree with all that except Josh McDaniel. I like the idea of an improved offensive mind. And agree 100% with every ing else you listed.

Why? Josh has been stellar when calling plays. He sucks as a HC, absolutely.

I know this will sound weird but the player who changed my faith in this team and what the owner/gm spews was Tank Johnson in 2008. Right before the first preseason game vs San Diego Jerry was asked who he most wanted to see and he said "Tank Johnson! He has been unblockable in camp." The game started and he totally got destroyed and run all over. Something just hit me at that point and I gave up listening from that point until now. I don't listen to him or buy any hype about the Cowboys. Nothing matters but wins. We as a fan base need to wake up and realize nothing matters until playoffs. Still, most fall into the trap year after year.
This sir is a fantastic story. Thank you for sharing. It is 100% on point and in an almost perfect way sums up how I feel.

I bought into it up until the Bills disaster. I didn’t go into that game expecting a win but I was really curious how they would stack up. After that the rest of the season was predictable. Even beating up Washington to get the hype train back on the tracks rolling into the playoffs. I guess I got Detroit wrong because I thought that would be another L.

At this point I won’t buy any hype around this team. I especially won’t give up money and valuable time going to see this clown show live. I got my Rangers World Series and saw how committed they were to a championship and doing it the right way. Of course there is no salary cap in baseball but the moves toward a championship were all solid.

For me it was Tony Banks. Jerry was terrorizing Cowboys fans by intending to go with him at QB. I think Jerry even referred to Banks as the "Shiznit", but that might have been the Ticket's fake Jerry Jones. I can't recall exactly, but Jerry was trying hard to sell a season of Tony Banks as the starting QB.

Not a bad call man.
Vrabel as a DC would be great. We can afford him, plus he's an ex LB so he will understand how weak we are there and address it. I've had enough of this Safeties playing LBs and getting run over experiment. Need to stop the run.
The 3 tech may be tough just because of the cap issues.
I ran a mock and got an extra 3rd by moving down a few spots, grabbed Suamitaia with my first, got a 3 tech in Round 2 (there are several good ones projected in the 2nd round area), then got Braelon Allen and Tommy Eichenberg in the 3rd (huge power back and ILB). Bring in an inexpensive FA IDL, (like a Shelby Harris). Have Osa, Hankins, Harris, Mazi, 2nd rounder inside. Then bring in an inexpensive FA inside LB, have FA, Overshown, Eichenberg, Clark), replace Kearse with Bell.
Still have our secondary and Edge strength, but get a lot better and deeper inside (at low cost), and be able to shut down the run finally.

Yesterday made us ALL losers. Thats what makes this loss so hard to swallow.

Dak fans can't be happy.
Dan Quinn fans can't be happy.
Micah fans, me included, can't be happy.
Anyone that was left thinking MM could get the job done can't be happy.
Heck, our regular season phenom kicker even missed an extra point.

There is no upside in this loss. Nothing to build on. No hope. That's what stings.

And after 28 years of this same song and dance of, "oh, we can win in spite of Jerry"... we can't and we won't.

Jerry treats this team more as a marketing endeavor than a pro football organization. And we have no hope of that changing. Once he's gone it just gets handed to another Jones goober, and then another and another.

If Jerry was really concerned about this town, the fans and the legacy of this team, he'd sell the Cowboys and walk away with his billions.

But his ego won't allow that. The nepotism within the Jones family won't allow that. So what hope do we have? 28 years. 28 YEARS! You can not tell me at this point that the only common denominator in those 28 years is not the problem. He is the problem. He is now our curse. And that curse will follow us through generation after generation of goobers.

The Dallas Cowboys are a laughing stock today. Only tarnishing the memories of the greatness that was. And Jerry is to blame.

Fair enough but my question for you is- how can you believe things would be different and still blame jerry ? if you believe things could be different and we could go on a deep run wouldn’t that signal that’s because the team is talented and put together the right way?

How can it be both ? I’m not just asking you either bob because you’ve been very transparent and we typically agree but I see so many people here who had the cowboys going to the championship game now say the team completely sucks- how can it be both talented enough to go far and yet simultaneously suck?

We do have some talent, but that is offset by monstrous glaring holes.

No LB's. I mean aside from maybe Overshown, we don't have any LB's. You are not going to win that way.
Rotational DT started at the 3. One of the reasons why we can't stop the run.
Parsons is just not a hands on the ground DE.

I blame Jerry for the holes, that the made zero attempt to fix. Why? Because Jerry is absolutely horrific at personnel/player evaluation.

I'd be okay with a Ravens/Browns deal - Jerry leaves and takes his franchise license with him to Little Rock and a few years later an expansion team is created for Dallas and takes over the identity and history.

You can look at my old posts. I was saying things to the effect of, "Don't get ahead of yourselves. If we don't beat Green Bay, there will be no other playoff games." Yet, I was quietly hopeful that this team could make a run. I was hoping they could at least get to the NFC Championship and play a great game, MAYBE getting an upset. I'm sick and tired of hoping. Before the game, I was watching science documentaries. Turns out, that was a better use of my time.
I never thought this team could win more than one playoff game, but I didn't expect the beat down the Green bay gave them.

So all the bad stuff is Jerry and none of the good stuff? It doesn’t make sense. I’m not even a jerry supporter- I have his son in clown paint but folks tend to talk out of both sides of their mouths. “The team is talented but” if the team is talented and many expected a deep run how can it be both

We're fans, we got caught up in the magic of it all. Then Jimmy happened, and I started to believe.
I didn't have confidence in beating SF, but I thought GB was an easy game for us.

I am still shocked we lost. Back to reality.

I thought we would play better in a home playoff game, but I "gave up on the season" after the SF blowout loss which exposed that we still have all the same flaws. This team isn't physical enough -- can't run and can't stop the run -- so it's only going to do well against teams that have deep flaws. We are a tier 2 team and struggled to find wins against quality opponents.

I ate the cheese as well Bob. And for the same reasons. I thought MM had this team pointed in the right direction. I still believe in MM but this defense is a paper tiger under Quinn. Love Quinn as a person but his bend but don’t break defense breaks in big games. Constantly.

This game hurts a lot. But I had a bad feeling all week about it. Dallas can’t stop the run and when you can’t do that, the offense starts clicking. I’m looking forward to see who the new DC will be. Possibly even a new OC and HC if Jerry fires MM. I’m a Cowboys fan so I’ll get excited looking forward to the changes and free agency and the draft. But I’ll need a lot of evidence before I start thinking SB again.

That's a worn out tired line, one I do not buy into.

The job of an NFL GM is to put a team together to compete for a super bowl. Since Jerry continuously leaves the team w/ glaring holes, he is doing a terrible job at what he's supposed to be doing.

This team was not built for a deep run due to badly needed upgrades at LB, UT, RB, S, and OL. Jerry gets full credit for Parsons, Lamb, Martin, etc, and also gets full credit for why we can't win in the playoffs.
