I admit I should not have bought what was being sold

I will admit it. I bought the bill of goods. I believed this team was different and capable of at the very least being capable of a deep playoff run. I was dead wrong.

And amazingly, until this season I usually started the season saying, “I will believe it when it happens.” I bought that this team, this coaching staff was positioned to be different. Again, I was as wrong as that putrid performance yesterday.

As of last night, I am returning to “I will believe it when it happens.” Not before.

For me, “buying in” won’t happen until I see some meaningful changes made at the top of this organization. An organization led by a man that never takes ultimate responsibility for his team’s failures and will never make a fundamental change in the way he operates. It won’t matter who is coaching or QBing this team until that changes.

How about you? What will it take to make you believe again?
I was trying to tell you.
  • This team has become less talented over the last 3 years. You lost 12 rushing TDs without Elliott, DL pass rush depth without Gregory, DT depth without Collins, Vanilla Gorilla, DB physicality in Awuzie, Brown, Woods, LBs depth that has you playing a S at LB, gave away a no.1 Pro Bowl WR in Amari Cooper, etc. Only Gregory was a true Free Agent lost. See Jerry Dumbo GM Jones comments below.
  • Lamb has always disappeared in big games since high school and college. Too little too late in the end.
  • Having Dak throw more than 35 times per game leads to the laws of throwing a football -4 things happen and 3 of them are bad.
  • You throw to score, run to win, and defense wins championships (stopping the run)
  • When you get to December and the playoffs, you must run the ball and stop the run
  • You cannot rush the passer when a team puts up +100 yds rushing during a game.
  • Jerry Jones a Dumbo GM of his Arlington Jonesboys (these are not the Dallas Cowboys). He has not been committed to win a Super Bowl since paying Deion Sanders all that money which his cheap son could not stand to have done.
  • Dan Quinn is not what you think he is as a DC. You fired the DC that improved the Cowboys defense and is credited for the Legion of Boom in Kris Richard. You do not blitz a franchise QB with arm talent compared to Pat Mahomes out of college. You play coverage and creative coverage packages. But you could not stop the run to do it. Dan Quinn defense gave up the biggest lead in Super Bowl History. Since the Arizona loss stopping the run and running the ball has been a problem.
  • You do not replace a True RB like Elliott with a former WR/KR/Sometimes RB and think you can pound him like Elliott and Emmitt.
  • Dak Prescott needs a running game, game changing receivers, and a defense to get to the Super Bowl. Since 2016, He has never had all 3. He is not a arm talented franchise QB. But he is a winning QB but not a championship QB.
  • As long as the Cowboys have Will McClay, they will have talent. But as long as they have Jerry Dumbo GM Jones, the will not have the coaching to win championships with the talent.
I have watched Tex Schramm, Gil Brandt, and Tom Landry make a NFL Dynasty, and Jimmy Johnson, John Wooten, and Bob Ackles rebuild a NFL Dynasty.

I have watched Jerry Dumbo GM Jones crush a rebuilt dynasty, and destroy the foundation of the original dynasty in a span of 5 years. How can you build a NFL dynasty when you never cared for and resented a NFL Dynasty.

The NFL Film used to say "These are the Dallas Cowboys...America's Team." Now it says "These are the Arlington Jonesboys, Jerry's Team."

This will be your fate at the end of every season...
Cowboys vs 49ers: Sad Cowboys fan quickly becomes meme at end of loss

And this will be your theme song at the end of every season...

Seeing is believing. I bought the cheese at the end of the season, against my better judgement.
Epic failure on the coaches with the weak game plans both offensively and defensively; also, to not have the players better prepared than that. Players made some serious mental mistakes and should have known better. Failure from the top down: GM, coaches, and players.

Fair enough but my question for you is- how can you believe things would be different and still blame jerry ? if you believe things could be different and we could go on a deep run wouldn’t that signal that’s because the team is talented and put together the right way?

How can it be both ? I’m not just asking you either bob because you’ve been very transparent and we typically agree but I see so many people here who had the cowboys going to the championship game now say the team completely sucks- how can it be both talented enough to go far and yet simultaneously suck?
Good points CT. I don’t think the talent level on this team “sucks”. My take is this team definitely has talent. But talent alone is not enough. Especially when your organization is fundamentally flawed in its self assessment. They overvalue their talent to the point they don’t take chances on getting better. They stood Pat at the trading deadIine this year. They thought they had enough. And they had holes that showed up against the better teams.

This team’s defense was overrated. They got most of their success by getting turnovers and sacks while being ahead by two or more scores. Which can be fools gold if you can’t stop the run when you’re behind. Which was exactly the case when the Cowboys got two scores behind. The D was bad when they couldn’t get TOs.

So the biggest talent gaps are on defense. Especially at LB and DL. And that’s not to say there aren’t problems with talent on offense. It’s just not as glaring.

I bought into the hype this year. No more.

This team should have NOBODY believing in them until they prove differently. The bigger the game the more they all shrink.

Each and every single player and coach is not off the hook. Embarrassing.

How can you be a Cowboys fan and not buy in every year? I mean, I'm very optimistic that every year will be our year...that's the 8 year old in me that found out about the Dallas Cowboys 45 years ago and instantly fell in love. There is no other team that I can lean back on, and if there was, it would be like having an affair or something.
Being the fan that I am there's only one way and that's to live or die with them. There's no way I can be halfhearted and be a Cowboys fan. I will always buy in with the hope that the team finds that magic.

No one should've really believed when we went TE in the 2nd and went into the season w/ these starting LB's:

A 5th rounder who lacks the physical skills to start
An injury prone LB
A rook. A 3rd round rook at that.

Think about that. And then add in we thought a complementary type RB was a starter.

:laugh:Great optimism...But 29 years now??? And Jerry and Stephen have more decades ahead to get even more senile... Good luck with that, Friend.

I support any Cowboys fan who “buys in”. That’s your choice to be a fan the way you choose to be. I wish all Cowboys fans would accept each other whether or not they are a fan in the way they choose to be.

I have followed the Cowboys since year one. They are my team. Just hope they get better.

Honestly, I quit watching the games a few years ago at least. If I had absolutely nothing to do, I might watch a game, but that was infrequent. As long as Jerry Jones has his fingers in the management of the team, this team will always be nothing. The same trajectory is happening with Stephen too, so for those who say when Jerry dies it will get better, no it won't, b/c Stephen is a Jerry mini-me.
This team will always be nothing with the current setup up top.

It's different for older fans like myself that witnessed the 90's dynasty in high school and have experienced nothing but shattered hopes every year since. It tends to wear us down to the point we stop believing. I want the Cowboys to prove me wrong more than anything. But as the years and years pile on top of one another I just wonder if it's ever going to happen again.

I'd be okay with a Ravens/Browns deal - Jerry leaves and takes his franchise license with him to Little Rock and a few years later an expansion team is created for Dallas and takes over the identity and history.

I'm in. Fans, you know what to do. STOP going to games. STOP buying merch. STOP attending anything Cowboys related. Let's run the snake oil salesman out of town!

And here's to the future Dallas Vaqueros!
