I am kind of perplexed as to their thinking at OG

The only thing I can think of is that maybe they’re so happy with Waletsko’s development that they feel they could get by with him and possibly Peters at LT WHEN Tyron Smith gets hurt again?

I’m trying to make sense of it.
They apparently like the strides Waletzko is making. Farniok has been the backup interior guy for a few years now.
They feel all they need is a spot starter at either LG/LT. Are much higher on their in house backups than the fan base. Still want to add a Guard to compete, but their plan appears best 5 starting.
Yeah I think this is a reflection of what they think about Waletzko who seriously looked like he belonged in the limited PS snaps he got. Broaddus may not be the best scout but he’s a former NFL OL. He said he could tell immediately at rookie minicamp that Waletzko could play in this league.

So you go Smith/Smith/Biadisz/Martin/Steele

With Farniok and Chuma as your IOL depth and Waletzko as your 4th T. With multiple injuries Tyler Smith would slide out to T while Farniok/Chuma/draft pick will battle it out to be the first one in if there’s an issue on the IOL.

If you add Bradford or Zavala to the mix I don’t know how you can say they haven’t covered their bases on OL. IF they indeed are looking to start Tyler Smith at LG with Wally as the swing then it makes sense to take a more developmental IOL as he won’t be penciled start at least until next year.

This is the only real rationale for how they’ve gone about Day 2 position wise.

Leaving this guy on the board for Schoonmaker is interesting. I can see why they did it.........it was a choice of TE vs G. We lost a starter at both positions and now you can fill one. They obviously chose TE coz you're getting a little of both.......receiver and pass/run protector.

He doesn't have the feet for zone blocking.

The drafting of this TE speaks volumes about what they think of Ferguson. They say he is a better blocker and he certainly is more athletic. Who do you think is going to be the starter in week 1 ?

I feel like the O Cyrus thing is going to take us back to when we should have taken TJ Watt but we went for scheme fit or whatever we were going for

Funny you say this ..........it jives with what Stephen Jones said last week about some teams having some players graded much higher in 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders ( scheme or right fit ) on their board and vice versa. LOL....Torrence is apparently one of those players.

Scheme fit is what made us pass on TJ Watt. Looks like we're doing it again

They could come back in the 4th and grab an OG but after that, it's mostly projects.

They must be banking on the belief Steele is ahead of schedule and Tyron will stay healthy allowing Tyler Smith to play LG. Seems like a real risky plan.

Farniok is blah. Ball? Please. They had an up close look at what a dominant OL could do at the height of Frederick/Smith/Martin and yet for some reason, they seem content with pretty mediocre play at OC and LG.
How do you feel about them drafting Mazi Smith? If you like the dtackle idea, that takes away from taking the top guard. If they hadn't taken Smith, they would have missed out on dtackle. In the 2nd round they were sold on the best blocking tight end in the draft. In the 3rd round they have a plan with the speedy linebacker in the defense and on special teams. Now that brings us to to the 4th round which will be running back, wr, guard, or qb. It will be interesting.

I'm trying my best to visualize what problem drafting a 220lb linebacker solves when we have gaping holes on offense. That was a luxury pick. And by no means do you take a solid 'blocking tight end' over an actual blocker on the O line who gave up zero sacks.

How about drafting a running back and a guard in the next 2 picks.

I have little confidence a 4th or 5th round guard will make any real difference. We might be able to get a decent runner in the 4th.

Tyron switching to right gives his body a weird adjustment. It may work to our favor switching the strength and power to the other side of his body away from injury prone areas. He looked good on the right, too. He’s just a beast, and maybe going to the right will help him be healthy.

So am I. We’ve sucked at left guard since Leary left but it’s like they’re trying to prove a pint at l g. We do t need a good one. We can get by with a j a g.

I am with you.....equally confused.

You are going to take Tyler our future LT and slow his progress by using him as a LG? He should be the starting LT now.

Ditto with Steele if he's ready.

We are going to depend on Tyron Smith for a full 17 game season? That's his total number of starts in the last three seasons combined.

We were supposed to upgrade the LG and we barely have a warm body as it is. A day #3 pick sin't going to make that any better.

I anticipate a few more veteran signings. That's could be the only answer. They wanted to wait until the daft was over so they could evaluate additional needs and now they are going to go out and get a veteran guard.

Farniok is a better C than OG. But if he improves as much this year as McGovern did last year, he might be a suitable backup G. Hey, hey can always bring Alarcon back to the offensive side!

I hope we actually draft one, but I'm thinking we'll end up with another WR or something instead.
