I don't feel Gregory suspension will feel significant after camp

No because I have several friends who call Clowney a bust and I tell them all the time you can't call a player a bust 1 or 2 years into their contract. That is incredibly short sighted especially when The player has time to turn it around. Has Gregory lived up to expectations? Hell no. Can we call him a bust after his 1st season in the NFL? Hell no.

Isn't Gregory on a four year contract? He's going to miss at least a quarter of season 2, after missing almost all of season 1. He's now a puff away from a year's suspension. Sometimes, a spade is a spade.

I keep hearing about these amazing coaching jobs that Marinelli does with these no-name players, but it never shows up during the season. I like the 4-3 defense, but his system seems outdated at times.

all defense look outdated when you tackle poorly and blow assignments. I will say it is Rod job to get these guys playing to their ability but as with certain guys like Sean Lee it takes a lot of work on the part of the player by putting in the time in film rooms. I never remove blame from coaches but I do expect more out of players.

The fact of the matter is that the defense is the red headed step child on this team. Both Jerry and Garrett like Flash and offense. And since we pretty much bomb on most picks after the 1st round, the defense will never get where it needs to get.

I don't agree.

We have drafted and brought in FA's on this team and have not been afraid to re-sign players and give players extensions on defense.

If it seems like we don't care much about defense, you have to remember that we cleaned house after 2013 due to players like Ware and Ratliff being constantly injured. But in the meantime we extended Lee, Crawford, drafted Gregory, signed Hardy, signed Cedrick Thornton, etc.

The issue with the defense is we have not adapted to the new passing schematics in the league. The league throws far more often, the passing has become shorter in nature and more out to the perimeter. QB's are getting the ball off in less than 2 seconds on a lot of their throws because that's how the play is designed. Back in 2005, you could get away with a weaker secondary, particularly safeties, if you had the pass rush that could get to that QB that was getting the ball off in 3 seconds. Now it's the opposite, you need the secondary to be able to hold up the pass just enough to allow the pass rush enough time to get to the QB. And if the pass goes off, then the secondary needs to be able to minimize the gain with sure tackling.

Ok, well then we disagree. THIS year was a prime example. Used a first round pick on an offense that really didnt need more help. Its typically the 2nd round on that gets used for defense. And if Jerry got his way this year he would have taken Zeke at #4, then traded his 2nd and 3rd round picks to move back into the first round to take a QB. So that would have been the top 3 picks on offense.

Disagree all you want but the best assets we have had the last few years have mostly been used on offense. Maybe I should just say the draft and first round picks. They seem to use FA to fill whatever holes they cant fill in the draft.

neither is Gregory

Just like how Lawrence was deemed not very good by some of you after his rookie year.

I have no idea whether or not Gregory will ever put it together, but he has more talent in his pinkie than most of the other DEs on our roster including the great Jack Crawford.
