Apparently, he has already beaten out Harris for the #3 spot. That is the love I am talking about. Also, I don't think he plays special teams.

Williams did not beat out Harris even if their depth chart says so. Not yet anyways. I don't think he will only because I believe Williams will get the #2 spot. Austin will either not be here or play more the slot which makes a better fit for him, and the outside a better fit for Williams. Williams will contribute some this year, but I am talking next year and beyond.

I see the physical ability but he does not look like he is getting coached at all.

He still comes out of his stance standing straight up and doesn't explode off the line of scrimmage.

His routes are also rounded.

This should've been fixed after his first OTA and im watching him last night play with a lot of wasted motion.

His technique is currently poor. Love the physical ability but someone needs to start coaching him.

A lot of posters here have an obsession with Harris. They conflate his production with the second team versus a general lack of targets for Williams who plays with the first team. How many targets has Witten received in preseason?

Those of us who have been watching training camp video and reading the press reports, realize why Williams is the #3 receiver.

And the reality is before Beasley was hurt he was also ahead of Harris.

These are the facts of the case and they are not disputable.

Harris will get many reps in the slot, for various reasons. I love him there, but not as much as Austin. Williams will have time to learn on the fly because he's likely the 4th option, at least. He'll have a few catches / deep opportunities per game, when the defense falls asleep on him. Perfect situation for a rookie.

As for Beasley, hard to count on a guy who's hurt right now.

Dude is a rookie playing in preseason games. Bryant didn't look sharp his rookie year. Give the kid a break and lets see how he develops.

From what I have seen, I like his size... he has a good, smooth glide that may deceive people watching on TV. Not every athlete is abrupt in and out of their breaks.

My guess come next year, people will be glad he is on the team. Just a guess, though.

So because they are ahead of him means its right? Cool story

I think he looks the part in terms of build. I think he's going to take a little time to get into things but physically he looks like he belongs in the NFL.

He hasn't had a ton of time on the field so not sure what would be expected.

Having a cool looking visor helps.

Austin was at his best playing outside. His monster year in 2009 was mostly played outside.

Not sure I am following the point of your post...besides stating that his breakout year in 2009 (when he replaced an injured RW), where he did much/most of his damage from the outside (see KC highlights for confirmation of that)...which I agree with...it is clear that THIS YEAR's plan is to emphasized him in the slot on 3rd down. Indeed, ALL of he catches last night were on 3rd, and, with the exception of the TD catch, I believe that all of the catches were with him in the slot...certainly you saw that virtually EVERY TIME the Boys lined up in 3WR sets (with Austin in the game), Miles was in the slot. My original post was not to negate his past/future performance working from the outside, it was to point out that clearly the Boys have a strategy to have him work from the slot and that he clearly can be dominant there...are you suggesting they should scrap that idea and go back to the 2009 approach?

Yeah, it was a bummer that he had to miss the first two preseason games with that concussion. No matter how much practice you do, it's not the same as playing against an opponent going full speed.

And on the thread question, are you asking about the "love" from the coaches? Because message boarders aren't the ones with the power to put him ahead of Harris. The coaches must be seeing something in practice to do that.

Miles should have a very nice year playing in the slot. Helps get him in open field, too, and give him more chances at YAC. That is where his game becomes lethal.

Here's to hoping no hammy snags.

Its the HAMMY SNAG that will get both Harris and TWILL on the field at the same time.... The Cowboys should no more about TWILL by mid season, but its entirely possible ROMO will be forced into trusting this young rookie sooner then later especially if Mr I pulled my Hamstring cant stay healthy...LOL

What I want to see is Williams EARN whatever role he gets. I don't like this whole philosophy of you were drafted at X position so you will get first dibs on this position regardless of your performance. If Williams outperforms Harris, give him the time, but if Harris outperforms, give him the time. Create a competitive atmosphere where the player who puts their best foot forward gets the time.

The other players and the team all seem pretty excited about the guy. I think there's something there that hasn't happened to show up in the two games he's played in. Kicking Miles inside alone is worth his spot on the roster alone, as far as I'm concerned. He also makes us more flexible if (knock on wood) Dez or Miles misses any time, because we can then bring in one of our slot guys as backup where Harris and Beasley both have a much better chance of being effective. He'd also be more effective out wide in 12 sets.

It was pretty important for the offense to get another outside WR. We were trying like crazy to find one at the end of 2012, and you just knew it was going to be a higher draft priority than the masses expected because it was clearly something Garrett wanted to add to the position group. I'm glad we've got him and that it sounds like the team thinks he's going to be a pretty good one.
I will say, he sounds a bit slow when you hear him interviewed. I think that's just his manner, though, because I haven't heard anything about him having trouble with the playbook. Between him and Escobar, though, you got a couple of chill dudes out there on offense.

He's already earned it in training camp. That is what a lot of you can get through to. They've been having months of practice, and apparently you've paid little attention.

It's a day to day thing. Some days good, some bad. After 16 games we will have more info.

Good objective view.
He may pan out, he may not. We'll see in time.

So far, I've been very unimpressed. But Witten sure thinks his potential is great, so I'm actually optimistic.

His 40 time is good enough, but certainly not blazing by any stretch. In fact, he Harris and Beasley have very close to the same times. But he does have nice size. Can't coach that.

But in GAMES he does nothing and Harris balls. Ok man.

I think that's more a function of Miles being so good out of the slot. Harris might be the better player at this point, but this offense is probably better with Miles in the slot and Williams outside than with Miles outside and Harris in the slot. I'm sure we'll see both looks throughout the season, though.
