I haven't seen anything from him in these games, other than him seemingly running the wrong route a lot. I understand he will have a lot of growing pains like Dez, but at least Dez flashed a little something. He has had 2 catches in 8-10 targets in the last 2 games.

What am I missing?

I guess you are missing a lot he has recieved a lot of praise from players such as Dez and Romo. The kid has talent, he will make mistakes as most rookies do

Yes, but he hasn't done anything yet. He may have a lot of potential and he may be great at some point, but he hasn't show anything that warrants him getting the #3 spot handed to him right now.

I don't see him as a #3 WR he is not a slot guy he is an outside guy. There may be times where Dez, Williams and Miles in the slot lineup and other times It will be Dez, Miles and Harris playing the slot. Bottom line for me is getting talent within the WR core I could care less about the individual BS it is time for this group to come together as a team and yes I think Williams will help that process because he is a young man with very good talent. I will leave it up to others to claim who is 1 2 and 3 it honestly does not matter

That is EXACTLY the issue...you nailed it...when Harris plays, that means Miles moves to the outside and Harris takes the slot...it is very clear to me that one of the strategic plans for the offense this year is to get a lot of Miles from the slot...having Williams play and develop on the outside is the path the getting this done...and you're right, Miles has shown that he can be DOMINANT from that area...I am talking Victor Cruz level of dominance...I think it is a brilliant plan and I think Miles may have a probowl level year as a result...assuming he stays healthy. Kudos on making this a "simple" discussion.

harris pllayed outside alot last year when he came in. just saying. he is capable of playing outside very well.
as for the original post if you look at every wr on this team, and most around the nfl, they did'nt do much their first year. it is totally understandable that he has alot to learn to be an nfl wr. but one position i think everyone would agree this team is good at developing is wr. and this staff likes what they have seen form him

What love...He's a rookie and like every other rookie receiver, they take three years to develop....I don't expect much from any of these rookies in their first year, other than Frederick since he's a first round pick and offensive line is such a disaster inside..The rest of the rookies hopefully can contribute on special teams...

after QB, WR is one of the toughest positions to learn in the NFL. rare that a WR makes impact in his first year, like calvin johnson or fitzgerald.

usually it will be sedond half of season before you start seeing any improvements and then as you siad, they make a leap in the 3rd year.

Check out the location of the University he played for and it may become clearer.

I don't think it's that serious... He's a fairly high draft pick. Fans like skill players. He's the prototypical WR that the Cowboys usually go after. Small successful WRs on the Cowboys are an anomaly. Also, the measure of his success can be easily judged. I mean, how many of us can really tell what's going on with line play besides sacks?

Personally, I think he's done everything the Cowboys have asked of him and according to all the practice reports, he's shown consistent improvement. Not sure why it's such a big thing that some like him. He hasn't done anything to make you dislike him...on the field or off.

From what I have read, he is going to be the #3 WR:

http://cowboysblog.***BANNED-URL***...e-harris-not-making-it-an-easy-decision.html/

Not really a position as #3 although we all use it. Players have to learn the plays at the X, Y, Z and these days H, F and W. Looking at it another way you have a X and Z outside and a Y(TE). But those guys can line up all kinds of ways and do. I don't know for sure what terminology Garrett is using these days as I think they went back to an older and simpler terminology this year. I think they are using a variation of the Erhardt-Perkins. But there is a terminology for the slot receiver. The X and Z are generally called the wideouts but FL and SE are used sometimes. Players certainly get paid like the #3. Things just aren't as simple as the flanker and split end of yesteryear. They changed something like Zac Calf F arrow X dig into Z Chicago X dig. I'd like to see the playbook.

That isn't exactly accurate.

What you have is the X Y Z

Normally you're #1 and #2 are the X and Z

That's Dez and Miles

When you move a Y out there, Miles slips into the Y, and Williams becomes the Z.

The #2 Y is Cole Beasley. The #2 Z is Terrance Williams

Harris is the #3 Y, which ultimately makes him the 5th receiver.

ok.. thanks for that heads up.

Typical Dallas propaganda. Every year they try hard to sell bums on us and get us excited for players that aren't even good. Until I see TW make some plays, he's a nobody. He has to prove it in the games like Beasley did.

Don't get me wrong...I am a HUGE D. Harris fan...love his motor...love is physicality...I just think he is not optimal from a measurables (height/speed) standpoint for the outside...mostly he gets quit hitters and WR screens and stuff like that, although he caught a nice deep ball against that Falcons that should have been a TD if Tony had hit him in stride (BTW - is it me or does Romo have a lower than average long ball...seems like receivers have to always really adjust to his long throws, even when they have the DB beat)...in any case, I think Harris remains an important key to the offense as well as a returner on special teams...I think he can be a key playmaker for this team...I just think Miles will be out best option in the slot more often than not IF we develop consistency from the rookie Williams on the outside...I am very excited about this receiver corp and think it has a chance to be one of the tops in the NFL...

Wait what??? You are comparing a 3rd pick who led the nation in yards to an UDFA WR who quit in camp and had what a total of what 4 catches last year? and you think that is proving it? If those are the standards of "proving it" I think TWIll is just fine.
