I love Tony Romo, but he makes it so hard to keep defending him.

This is EXACTLY his MO. Great games....great stats....HUGE MISTAKES in the BIG moment. And often, absolutely UGLY gut punch mistakes when they happen (see INT tonight).

Make no mistake. He is a really, really, really good QB. There are only 2 or 3 NFL QB's I'd rather have over him right now. But he needs to start coming through in the clutch to ever be remembered as great.

Right now he's the Danny White of the 2000's.

:starspin
And the Ex-Lax club just keeps growing :lmao2:

Get a clue...
Not to derail the thread, but during the offseason I watched every Cowboys game from 1980-84.

White was a damn good qb and I have no idea why he was ever benched for Hogeboom.

Landry gave into the media and some so-called "fans" like some that have posted in this thread tonight. It was the worst mistake Tom Landry made in his career in my opinion. Just totally wasted the 1984 season...

Hate? That's a strong word for screwing up in one game.

It's not just one game. He has a list of screw ups that has lead to this feeling of resentment.

I was very young when this happened and had not viewed the games previously.

I do remember that Hogeboom was almost a swear word in my house. Almost as bad as "Pelluer"

Don't know why any of us should be surprised really. This is Romo. He has that gunslinger mentality and that's something a QB can never shed. Favre intercepted his way out of the Super Bowl with the Vikings and he had way more years of experience over Romo.

Romo is gonna win us some games and he's gonna lose us some games. That's just how it is with him :( "You take the good with the bad" - didn't he even say that himself years ago??

These next 3 games aren't as cupcake as they look anymore. Then NE after the bye. Yikes!

These next 3 weeks will make or break our season

Romo is a terrific quarterback, but he has an undeniable history of creating some clumsy plays in critical situations.

I think it's the level of excellence he displays so often that makes his bonehead plays all the more unbearable. He goes from one of the best in the game to a throwing a head scratcher in the blink of an eye.

He will bounce back. He always does. But will we find ourselves right back in this same spot in the not too distant future?

see that is just it...coaches will tell you they need the same guy every day and every game...not a guy who will be excellent than for some reason gets a wild hair and goes off the ranch.

I'm not ready to concede that. I know it sounds cliche, but it's a marathon not a sprint. After moving the ball that well against one of the best defenses in the league last night and having our own defense perform so well with our 3rd and 4th string secondary out there, I wouldn't pin the hopes of our season on the next 3 games.

Our team has room to improve for sure, and I think they will. September isn't insignificant, but it's how we play down the stretch that's going to matter most.

We will do well this year with Tony, and despite Tony, we are that good.

That said, I thinking who'd we have to part with to get into the Luck sweepstakes...lol

In big games you can count on this team to fold... I don't put all the blame on Romo. You can't blame that stupid punt block on him however those two turnovers killed Dallas.

Just to clarify I do not hate Romo but he is now in the Danny White category of Dallas QB's. We extended him so we are stuck with him.

Until he wins the SB I will no longer trust him

:hammer:

To me this says it all. Alot of people over the years have commented on how Danny White was underrated. I think he probably was. But it's because he played for the Cowboys. Romo walks around with all this swagger because he's the QB for the Dallas Cowboys. Well I'm sorry. Until he wins something he might as well be the Bengals QB or the Cardinals QB or play for a team with that kind of history. He certainly couldn't shine the shoes of Staubach or Aikman.

Danny White couldn't get it done and he'l always be remembered that way. But White consistently got us FARTHER than Romo has. The losses in the playoffs are often contributed to by Romo's poor play.

I think it would be MOST prudent to get a guy on our roster to groom as his replacement if the front office doesn't believe that Mcgee is the guy, because I dont' know if Romo will ever be as good as Danny White.

Huge 'Boys fan but hate Romo. They will never win anything with that guy. He just doesn't have "it." It's a shame Jerry will have wasted years on him.

All this hating on Romo but the truth is there is no replacement. Either you guys are blind or just plain dumb because franchise QB's are not easy to find. You think it can't get worst but the reality is it can be worse and it has been worse.

Here is my problem with Romo, when he makes crucial mistakes he looks suicidal. If only players are looking to him for leadership you might as well forget it. I was looking Cam yesterday and he took some licking and made some mistakes as well, but he brush himself off and kept ticking...he is just a rookie. Romo always look like he has to be watched the next 24 hrs.MRI make sure he doesn't do something to himself. Sad.

Romo is flawed, perhaps critically flawed, and simultaneously he 100% provides our best opportunity to win not only for this season and likely for the next 2 or 3.

Yup, he's often the reason we win and sometimes the reason we lose. I like Romo, really and truely, but I need to be able to trust him in situation like last night. He has to be the guy that puts the games like that away for us.

We would not have even been remotely in that game without Romo.

Check back in at the end of the year and see if ANY QB throws for about 340 with 2 TDs and pick at the Jets. Brady may do it...but i doubt it.

No doubt that was really boneheaded play at the end, but Romo had a good game overall.
