I have a good feeling about our O-line next year

No, this has been my one argument. Nobody on this offense played up to their 2014 standards. Nobody! You're trying to give them a pass based on injury and that's not the whole truth.

You're scaring me Stash looks like you may be falling off the bandwagon.

Everyone is worried about a backup qb. It's not that big of a deal guys. If any star qb goes down it doesn't matter who the backup is. The odds of a backup in this league taking over mid season leading you to a super bowl are ridiculous. Let's build around the team for romos last few years and try to get there. No teams have a chance if their star qb goes down. Idc what y'all say. Gimme bosa or Ramsey to help build this defense. They will make a difference. Wentz/Goff holding a clipboard will not!

If I knew for sure, I'd be working for the team instead of having this conversation with you. Obviously, I don't think they suddenly became "bad players", so if I had to speculate, I'd say that the coaches didn't do the best job in any areas. And I think that what happened with everyone else being so much worse supports that belief.

I don't think this team was as prepared as it should have been to start the season, and when they lost their best players who cover up those warts, the wheels completely fell off.

But what I don't buy is the oversimplification that the team's only issues were due to injury.

These were the same coaches that were here in 2014 when they went 12-4 though? So the coaches got dumber? I'm interested to hear you explain this since you do believe any explanation is an "excuse".

I haven't toted the roc in 30 years but I'd love to run behind this line!

Would love to see you do that. Envision this, they have you suited up, it's a 14 pt lead with less than 1 minute to go. Brad Sham comes on and announces you are in..... the fans go wild.... This board melts down:):)

And the same guys that helped us achieve 8-8 for three straight years. Were they "geniuses" for one year? Maybe you can explain that? All things considered, 12-4 is the anomaly from these guys, not the rule.

I've got it too bad to ever do that!

But I'm not naive enough that I don't realize that the team has some issues too.

I hear you Stash...and I'm at this point now.

My wife and I were sitting at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Tx, when Bill Parcells walked in and by us for his very first Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys.

Bill set about changing the team from a 4-3 to a 3-4 in the subsequent draft...2005. In that draft, he set about picking up enough defensive linemen to set a solid base for that defense to grow.
He drafted four defensive linemen, with two being in the first round.

DeMarcus Ware
Marcus Spears
Chris Canty
Jay Ratliff

(incidentally, he picked up LB Kevin Burnett in the 2nd rd)

This draft, I want a similar display of picks for the defense. Fix the defensive line and secondary for the future.

The 8-8 seasons came in the period following the lockout and a slow rebuild of an offensive line that was left when the bottom fell out of the Dallas cap picture. I'd say that part of the changes was pretty impressive...but the left overs on defense went through a similar need for change. That pretty well accounts for the even record picture, unless both Tony Romo and Dez Bryant are both healthy.

I agree with you with one caveat. I'm spending that #4 overall on my future quarterback. Enough is enough.

ONLY, if he is seen by the staff as actually BPA...:)

When Parcells did his four defensive lineman draft...was there a franchise quarterback at the helm then?

I see the modern NFL as a more immediate results-oriented business. Teams have risen and fallen in the five years' time that this team has managed a .500 overall record. The 'quick fix' patches just haven't worked and I hope that plans are made with more long term thinking involved rather than knee jerk reactions.

Snapshots serve a ton of purposes...but a team comes from their own immediate past, and labels have to be adjusted for the correct picture frame for that particular team.

And there's little way of knowing that for a few years down the road. Dallas can pass on the QB, tell us that they didn't feel it was the right move, and many will buy it. But it will take a few years to know whether they were right or wrong. And if they are wrong, this franchise will suffer for it for years.

Actually, yes. Prior to the 2005 draft, Parcells made a deal for 'his guy', former #1 overall pick Drew Bledsoe.
And they had young guys in the pipeline in Henson and some guy named Romo. ;)

You are hedging your bet here...

Bledsoe had already fallen' from grace, as had some of the old Parcells' guys at other positions as well. What about Testaverde? He also the top of line QB list at that point as well?

Romo was a developing QB, strictly, at that point...and a reason why one could be started now as well.

Stash, I know this is your pet prospect...I'll just accept that and move on. Good luck on your wish.
