Every season Leftwich either plays inconsistent or gets hurt, they then have to convert the reins over to Garrard. In the middle of the switch they run the ball almost 70 percent of the time. I know you hate it but in the right place Jones can be a productive player. We have Owens, Glenn and Witten to take the pressure off of him. In Jacksonville who do they double team first? He has taken all of the double teams. You know teams are going to double Owens here.
As for Carpertner, you guys have wishful thinking. Basically, he played outside LB in the first preseason game, training camp and from the looks of it will continue to do so unless we have a major injury bug. These players are depth charted above him already IMO. Six players
Ayodele(sp)
James
Ware
Spencer
Burnett
Ellis (he's going to play, hes just whining because he knows Spencer can play)
For him to be most productive he needs to play inside. We all seen how horrible he is as a pass rusher in the NFL. That means two of the three would have to be injured for him to start Ayodele, James, and Burnett will be the first replacement. He has some value now and if he just sits on the bench and plays speacil teams what is it going to do to his value?
I know some has said this sounds like fantasy football but IMO its not a crazy thought to look into some trades for him before our first round pick becomes a permant fixture on the 40 yard line holding his helmet. At least Jones would help this team as the third reciever. 6 5, 240 getting single covered by the nickle db, tell me he couldnt excel there? He's just stuck in Jacksonville getting double teamed and having no quarterback. Hes not good enough to be a number 1, that is clear as day. Im talking about as a number three. Matchup problems galore with Owens, Glenn, Witten and Jones. Or, would you rather have a guy on the 40 yard line holding his helmet the entire game living off his college legacy. I hope Im wrong but it is what it is now. Opinions
That's the gospel truth right there.Biggems;1585774 said:with ellis possibly not coming back......Carpenter becomes that much more valuable. Also, Carp can play inside and out.....u dont give up on that kind of versatility.

gawd, would someone on this site post something relevant/worthwhile? seems people post stuff, just to see their post count go up
blindzebra;1585817 said:Funny how he was at ILB every snap except when he played DE in the few times we ran nickel in the preseason game...stop posting on this when it is obviously clear you don't know what the hell you are talking about.
Right now he's #2 at the defensive QB's spot at ILB behind James.
He's #1 at nickel LB in our 4-2-5 nickel.
And he's in the mix at DE when we run the nickel/dime with Williams in the box.
playmakers;1585953 said:Blindzebra, you think you know everything ehh. Lets see, I have the game on tivo and wanted to rewatch it anyways and found several flaws in your argument.
1 series= 0 plays, even on nickel
At the 2;17 mark was a nickel (4-2-5)package and it was Roy W and Burnett at Linebacker. Right there proves you must not of watch the game either
2nd series= 0 plays, again nickel package on 3rd and 9, at 8 26 mark, the linebackers are Burnett and Roy Williams and still no sign of Carpetner
Finally with about 2 min to go Carpetner makes his way out with mostly bubble guys. That really shows that the staff really means busniess that they plan on playing him this season. He cant get on the field on normal downs and he cant even get on the field in Nickel so that begs the question to ask "Where and When is he going to play?" He did play inside when he came in Ill give you that. As for the second half, ill admit I breezed through it, but does that really matter. If your making an argument about a guy playing in the 2nd half of the first preseason game is pretty weak because 90 percent of those players wont see more than the teams turk.
So dont try to come on here and act is if you know it all. None of us are NFL people. I did say Im not saying I was right too. This is what a forum is for, fun interacting with other fans. You come and rip me for not watching the game when in fact my thoughts were still right, he did not smell a snap with the first team. My conclusion is still supported by the first preseason game, come week 1 hes going to look good standing on the 40 yard line holding his helmet. Its just the facts, hes behind Ayodele, James and Burnett.
To the rest of the group, I do hear you on the notion of having him around for depth and Im okay with that too. I just think in this offense that Matt Jones could succeed and help us. I know you think its a wild thought but look at recievers like Jimmy Smith, Cris Carter etc those guys needed a change of sceniary and were thought of as done. I know Smith was hurt but he would had never got the chance to play here; it helped him going to an expansion team. They became stars. Sometimes moves dont look as clear as night and day. But on the same notion Im not nieve to say that 'Yea, Im right." I could be wrong and it was just a thought for the group here. Thats it, its fun and games.
playmakers;1585326 said:These two guys are in the wrong place but need a new surrouding to fulfill their potential. The numbers should match salary cap wise too.
We give up Bobby Carpetner(We all know the stack is against him here)
to the Jags for
Matt Jones(Just demoted to 3rd or 4th string with Reggie Williams)
Big guy with speed and most importantly getting younger at reciever.
These two guys need a change and it fits. Do you bite????
blindzebra;1585390 said:So we should give up a LB when we run a 3-4 that can tackle, cover and rush the passer. That can play ILB, OLB, or nickel DE. That IMO will be the best LB not named Ware on our roster by years end.
And then give him up for a circus freak, converted QB that is falling down the depth chart of a WR poor team.
Yep, brilliant idea.
playmakers;1586275 said:See, orginally you tell me i did not watch the game that he played ILB on Nickel. Now, your telling me the reason he didnt play was because they were running hurry up. With that statement there your admitting your orginal statement was flawed. So, whose looking bad now. Dude, just admit you were trying to pick on me and you picked on the wrong dude. Pick on somebody whose weak son. Look, everybody who disagreed with me went at it in a nice way of calling me a moron for making that trade. The one saying Im glad your not our GM made me chuckle. Ok, thats cool and fine. Isnt that what this forum is for? This is the only forum I go to for Cowboys news because it is what it is. You on the other hand try to take a shot at me personally and interpet that overall I was stupid. In conclusion though your orginal statement was false and now your backpeddling by saying it was because they were running hurry up. Let it go, agree to disagree and move on.
