Likely, and frustratingly so.

The biggest investment the franchise has in Jason is Jerry's pride. Jerry's invested a lot of time in teaching Jason how to be a HC in the NFL. Firing Jason reflects as poorly on the student as it does the teacher.

For sure. That's why he was so eager to make a splash and sign Jason up for 5 more years. Makes him look good. A 2 year extension would have more than enough if he want thinking about his owe reflection. Jason wasn't going to get any other offers.

And I think you're wrong about that, too. This organization thinks Jason's a good coach. That's why they've kept him around, even if they thought he needed improvement in some areas. When they think there's a significantly better coach available for this situation, they'll move on, and the coaches' salaries won't be the hurdle.

I have no doubt Jerry genuinely thinks Jason is a capable coach, but that neither makes it so nor proves that it has nothing to do with his ego. A person's ego is more than capable of talking the brain into an opinion.

That was the only point I was making in this particular thread.

We can debate why I think Jerry's right in this case later. But I dont think there ought to be any doubt that JG has the support of the organization even if the fans don't like it. And it's because of his work and not because Jerry has a big ego.

I disagree with the bolded part. It's totally because of his ego since JG hasn't done any good work. Mediocre team and record (5 games over .500 in 6 years). AS the big Tuna says...you are what your record says you are.

Having said that, Jerry's ego may even force him to fire JG at the end of the year if he is ridiculed enough enough as a know nothing GM/Owner by the masses.

There's really no way of proving which of us is right. Obviously, i disagree with your assessment of Garrett and the job he's done. And I think the idea that Jerry's gotten by in life doing outrageously dumb things because of his ego and still would up as successful as he's been is laughable.

If Garrett is let go at the end of the year, it'll mean the team has stopped responding to him. At that point, a change would have to be made. And I agree that there's a chance that can happen. If it does, as I said, Garrett's salary is going to be a minor consideration for what's a much bigger issue.

As I just said to Jarv, it's kind of pointless debating Jerry's motivations if we can't prove them. I dispute the idea that highly successful people frequently make pigheadedly bad decisions because of ego when an abundance of evidence suggests otherwise.

Are you being funny? The Browns have extended him until 2017.

Add Davis to the list of back-up QB's who had won a game this season......not that we should add him to our roster. It was a follow up post to the ones just prior to mine. When I posted that, he had just lead the Browns to a TD with some nice throws before they blew it in epic, Garrett like, fashion.

BTW, I was hoping we'd take a shot at Davis who I think was available earlier in the year. I thought he was OK and shopwed some promise in St. Louis for a first year player.

Sure he does, but it's not necessarily because Garrett is a good coach......it's because he's the "Right Kind of Coach" for Jerry.

If romo doesnt go down this place is flooded with superbowl threads. So i agree.

And IF it wasn't for Bill Parcells there probably be no Romo threads at all. Too many if's with every scenario we contrive. Wwho knows what would have happened last year if "the non-catch" would have been called correct or interference would have been called in the Detroit game. We have to deal with reality of what's happening and if you watch all the games, just not DC games, you can see a definite and consistent ugliness to our DC coaching and play. If by chance we won the division, we would get wiped out in the playoffs. You can say, hey look at Houston and KC and attempt to make a case however just watch the mistakes which are not corrected each week, the overall dysfunction (coaching and players) and the non improvement. There is no streak in this team but losing. Sorry but having a bad week.
