I just have a feeling about Martellus Bennett

What I like about Curtis is his effort and the fact that until yesterday, all his catches were TDs. Curtis' ceiling is lower than Bennett's, for sure, but Tony Curtis is a great role player who has a long NFL career ahead of him if he can keep doing what he's doing.

Bennett still needs to grow up....his 5 cent head will be the limiting factor to any roadblocks to success. We will probably see good and bad from him this year. Just hope he doesn't do something stupid to cost us a game.

Bennett's day will come.

It's hard to get Bennett involved when everybody else is always open.

He will never be a STAR.

He has the physical attributes but STARS possess that inner drive that CANNOT be taught. You either have it or you don't. Look at Emmitt, Troy, Irvin or Romo. These players play their hearts out for $1 million or for free. They motivate themselves. That's what it takes to be a STAR.

Bennett will be a teaser because he's got ability but this league is full of people with ability. He'll be decent and play a few years and be gone like many before him. In fact, I think Fasano may last in the league LONGER than Bennett. He may not be a starter but Fasano is a willing blocker, worker who is willing to do everything without someone constantly chewing on his ears.

At first I didn't like Martellus. Now- I think he's gonna be a real good one. The lights will come on for him as the season grows because he will be held to a higher standard by his championship hungry teammates. When he sees and feels the rewards or disappointments of the season, he will know what it means to be a Dallas Cowboy. It's already happening. My prediction is he will have more than one HUGE play this season in the quest for the Lombardi. And Witten will have MANY, as he always does.

Bennett will blow up in the 3rd or 4th game. Some team is going to gameplan stopping Witten and Bennett will explode.

Kid is almost 6'7 w/major hops, will be crazy in the redzone. Does not have WR speed (ala Vernon Davis or KW2) but he is strong especially as an inline blocker and running after the catch.

Yeah I was thinking that he could have been a jump ball option in that game. It seemed perfect. Soon.........

Yep.... I think once Garrett gives him a taste of a TD in the NFL. The light will come on. Then he will be a silent assassin.

This is the cognitive distortion known as fortunetelling.

Bennett has the attributes to be a star. Yes you're right. He needs to have his head right but so do most stars. Not too many who can just show up anymore.

His blocking has been surprising. He seems to be working hard to do all the little things that elevate your game. He has hands. He appears to run routes properly; at least he appears to be in the right place at the right time. He has speed for a TE. He has strength and is able to break tackles and run thru arm tackles. He has will and imposes it on runs and blocks. He has to be a little tough to take all the 'attention' he got in camp.

We'll see.

And the rest of the posts are not trying to predict Bennett's career???

Again, everyone is pointing to his physical attributes which are enticing BUT if you look OBJECTIVELY you will realize that MOST of these type of players with POTENTIAL turn out to be teasers.

He reminds me of Jeremy Stevens of the Seahawks. Fabulous player when he WANTS to but just can't get it right.

I wish I am wrong and we STOLE him in the 2nd round but history tells otherwise.

You're entitled to your opinion and you may turn out to be right. Perhaps if you were to allow us to know WHY you think he'll fail..... Saying he's going to fail 'because' is not enough.

DRIVE.

He's not driven like a star player. He should be sucking up the coaching advice like a sponge and ASKING for coaching advice instead of the Cowboys having to ASSIGN someone to chew in his ears during every practice.

Look at our current star players and the ones around the league. Tell me which star player isn't self driven? We tend to see our own players in different light. Just imaging Bennett in a uniform other than the Cowboys and see what your objective opinion shows.

Again, he may suddenly get IT. However, human nature is difficult to change.

Well, I would have agreed with you had I not heard differently and seen him improve then seen his skills. He's different but you may want to think about giving him the chance to succeed or fail. They've definitely been all over him but he seems to be taking it pretty well. I see him succeeding where you see him failing. His problem is getting on the field and playing behind arguably the best TE in the game.

So is the only reason he's going to fail is because its in his head????

How come you can judge all these things you say ?

Have you spend intesive time with Benett so you can make yourself an opinion about him ? I mean you can't judge a person and his personality just by watching him on TV. And especially not in a show like Hard Knocks.

So i guess you spent a lot of time with him and you must also have alot of expert experience in psychology. Otherwise how could you state that acting this or that way shows that a person has inner drive or not ? Are there some scientific papers where i could read somthing about that ?

I am just curious.

FWIW, BaD radio said they talked to Witten during camp and Witten wasn't too impressed with Bennett's "I'm a star" attitude on the field when he hasn't accomplished anything in the NFL. They said they were pretty shocked because Witten never says anything bad about a teammate. Witten is a regular guest on their show, so I doubt they would make stuff up to throw him under the bus.

I believe that was early in camp, towards the end, Wit aid that he could see bennett "getting it" and was impressed how he was catching on.

Randy Moss.

Overall though, I do agree with you about a player working hard and wanting badly to succeed. Heart has a lot to do with success in the NFL.

Having said that... we haven't seen enough of Bennett to classify him much in any regard. He does seem to be getting it and his blocking has been looking pretty darn good. And for a TE, if he's blocking well (the boring, physical aspect of his job) then it's a pretty safe bet that he's putting in the effort on the pass receiving aspects of his position.

He certainly has the physical attributes to be a star... so it's a real good sign that he is working hard on the mental aspects.
