I Just Saw Something Horrifying

Nor does NBC care if they air Florio's gossip as news.

That is part of the general point.

Except I am weird. Some of you people get upset about the PFT gossip.

I get way more upset by some goober "grading film" and how that said goober influences how people think about what they see or worse, just substitute for it because they don't bother doing it themselves.

All in all, things like PFF start getting referred to as credible "statistics" pretty soon. Even for positions that are impossible to "grade".

And that leads to even more idiocy.
Florio is a hack. Still waiting for his apology to Dez about that video....

Raw data used to be great. I used to pay for it when it was like $40 a year.

Now? Just got a quote and those stats are $1500 for a year subscription.

Absolutely bonkers

Sheesh. For that much, I'd want some social security numbers.

I'm from Mars, never played Madden. So can someone explain what PFF is?

Thanks.

P.S. I'm being serious. I have never played Madden.

Pro Football Focus. They track and provide statistical data about the NFL. But they decided that wasn't enough, so they started ranking players. Basically they have guys watch film and decide whether the player made the right play (without knowing his assignment) and give every NFL player a 'grade' based on what they thought they saw watching film.

The stats are good, the player ratings are entirely subjective, but they present both as equally factual. Chris Collinsworth bought the company a few years ago and that's likely why they are showing the PFF rankings for players during player intros at the start of the game.

Great...now I have to go all emo over some questionable (at best) stats site being shown during a football game.

On second thought...meh, no need to go all emo.

I don't think Florio instigated that. I believe it was Schefter and he was simply reporting it.
Florio said he had heard the tape was worse than Ray Rice. If it turned out to be nothing he would publicly apologize.

In case you're serious. Pff is an NFL player ratings service nearly universally hated on this site. (I'm not sure if I hate it but, I've been told I do)

You are, obviously, joking about never playing Madden.
If you're serious please don't admit it again.

Thank you. That was thorough but brief. :)

Actually I'm not. And the reason is I try to watch out for stuff that "ensnares" me, i.e., I don't need another thing in my life that takes up my time. I have too many things already. So as much as I love the new technology presented in video games, I just won't play them for fear of getting hooked and wasting more of my precious time that could be devoted to other, more productive pursuits.

Very smart. I started playing madden in 1992. Played pretty much until about 06. Quit for a while. Then picked it back up in 2011. Had to quit a year later because it was a very time consuming problem.

Also, wives and Madden are sworn enemies. So...

Fired up the recorded version of the Bears game and during the intros, they actually give the PFF ranking of each player underneath their names. Like it was important or official.

That is so frightening on so many levels.
That IS scary

At least didn't show the Bryan Broaddus evaluations of players that many here think are accurate.

I really do not pay attention to those things. I know Fantasy Football is big and is even promoted by the league to get fan involvement. Myself I just watch the games as I have for 51 years.

Eh.

It's weird they'd put those unofficial ratings up there but I don't know how it's horrifying or anything to lose ones mind over.

I guess it's just annoying that they're doing it at all?

*Shrugs*
