We're going to pay 3 players well over 100 million dollars per season when there's a salary cap. We're just going to get worse doing this not better. What is the point?
Trade Micah for multiple first round picks and don't extend Dak. Go ahead and pay CeeDee. Micah wears down as the season goes on, one day he'll lost his burst and he'll be an overbloated terrible contract.
Well, Jerrah has to pay
some of these players, to keep the cash registers ringing. The question is who?
He's paying Dak, he has no choice. Too late to take another risk at QB unless it's like an early 1st-round pick...and the only way they could get near an early 1st-round QB is to trade Micah.
And I'd entertain offers for Micah while people love him. They may find someone willing to give their own edge pass rusher and a 1st round pick, or two 1st round picks. Then the Cowboys could try to trade up to get a QB they want. Even if it's not for next season, it would be for the near future...and let Dak become a free agent after next season.
If you're keeping Dak, I'd pay CD too. And I'd find them both a new OC, or at least a new offensive consultant. McCarthy is not the answer in the playoffs. His game plans have been putrid in the playoffs, and in Big Games in general. So either a new OC or a new person to assist Mike. If Mike says that's off the table, BYE MIKE. Otherwise, I'd be OK, since the Cowboys are between a rock and a hard place with the cap, giving Dak and McCarthy ONE MORE SEASON, but not without some changes to the offensive game plans and play designs (it needs tweaking).
And unless the o-line is overhauled, a new RB is not a need for next season, because with this o-line and this playbook, the run game is never going to be the focal point of the offense. Mike's offense depends on Dak, not Pollard. So we give McCarthy and Dak ONE MORE SEASON, and put it ALL on Dak next season...and tell him that. It's going to be a pass-first, westcoast offense, EVERY GAME...with the run game sprinkled in. And the RB needs to be able to catch, and not just in the flats. The RB needs to be a downfield passing threat as well.
My hunch is that JJ is leaning in this direction, unless he's talking to Belichik or Harbaugh behind the scenes. But a new HC is going to bring massive change, which I'M ok with, not sure JJ is, at his age. That much change comes with a lot of risk. I'd take it myself (though I don't think Belichik is the answer, though I do like the idea of a defensive-minded HC).
