I Think Jerry Is Going To Go Heavy Offense In The Offseason.

Hey guy, I just read the recap of Jerry's interview and the main thing I picked up on was this:

"We will continue to improve this team. We start with Tony Romo and we want to put some things around him. That's what we did with Aikman"

This tells me offense, offense, and more offense in free agency and the draft. Considering our O-line will probably send 3 guys to the probowl, I dont think this is the area Jerry is referring to.

I think this means offensive skill players, mostly RB or WR since we are pretty stacked at TE.

RB must be either McFadden or maybe Turner from SD.
WR could be Fitzgerald or the other Roy (both would have to be trades however.

What do you guys think???

He has Romo signed for 7 more years.... he will have to continually supply Romo with good players around him to get EVERY BANG for HIS BUCK

I agree. I think Jones will want to replace Terry Glenn with a stud WR like Fitzgerald, Chad Johnson, or draft Desean Jackson.

I'm not so sure on the RB situation though. He said he would like to keep everyone so he may try to resign Julius Jones first before trying to sign a Michael Turner or draft a McFadden. McFadden is looking more unlikely given Cleveland's recent success. I don't think Jerry will want to trade so many draft picks to move up to get him. He may use those picks to get a CB and WR/RB.

One thing is clear: Jerry will upgrade this roster at the key skill positions.

I am drooling over Fitzgerald right now. He would look SOOOOOOOOOO good in a Cowboys uniform.

Actually, I think the whole key with having Romo locked up for so long is finding him good protection.

We have some depth up front, but I can definitely see us using the draft as a means to accomplish the goal of protecting Romo. Not to mention, if we're scoring 35 points a game, there really isn't much that our defense needs as far as upgrading.

I'd like a new, younger corner back. But I'm really impressed with the way Hamlin has helped our defense.

It's coming together. But I like Olinemen... I can see us drafting a receiver too though.

I don't see McFadden in a Cowboys jersey, or even Turner. McFadden will be too risky for the money it would take to get him. I think there are several RBs out there that will fit the mold Jerry has carved. I think the Terry Glenn fiasco this year has Jerry worried, and he will go for a FA that specifically matches up with T.O. Glenn will be gone.

Crayton is probably gone too, as a FA. I don't think Jerry is going to pay him the big bucks Crayton thinks he is worth.

Fullback is set, tight end is set, QB is set, olinemen are set, so I am thinking WRs and RBs get all the attention.

For the first time in a long time, this team has no excuse to not take the best player available.

Lmao...you say "offense, offense, and more offense"...and then proceed to essentially eliminate all but two offensive positions.

I'm thinking there will be some defense thrown in there, and relatively early at that. If we don't get deeper at the CB position, it will prove to be costly.

Give me Malcom Kelly, Steve Slaton and a good CB prospect (Tribble, Jenkins, Jenkins, Cason, Talib, Lowery) and I'd be tickled to death.

Moss if Pats are dumb enough not to tag is a real thought.....

Forget the Roy and Larry talk - NOT Happening.

I can see us going and getting a stud RB early to pair with the Barbarion and a WR later day 1.

NE would be foolish not to re-sign Moss unless he wants a huge amount of money. We would only sign Moss if he wanted to be a Cowboy for reasonable money but why leave NE if he'll settle for reasonable money.

My first 3 picks on draft day would be for a CB/RB/WR in whatever order unless Jerry signs a speedy sure handed WR in FA who essentially replaces Glenn.

I've always been a proponent of drafting the best player available. Romo would give us the luxury of doing this.

In terms of getting players we need, look at free agency for need areas.

But seriously, draft best player available. No stretching for need. Romo allows us to really do that.

I totally agree Beast_from_East.

This is now the second time in an interview since Romo was signed that Jerry has mentioned this subject. In both instances Jerry specifically said that now that he has the QB in place with Romo he would put the pieces around him.

I think the first thought is a young, fast RB to replace Julius. There is no way he gives a new contract to an average back like JJ. I think he will look into what it would take to move up for McFadden. Don't forget he explored the cost of moving all the way up to get Calvin Johnson last year in the #2 spot and that was without an extra first round pick.

As for WR, the thought of Moss being on the open market again is probably a pipe dream, but I can dream. I can't imagine this offense with Moss running the deep routes.

What if that player is a linebacker?

Yea, I dont think we "do a Ditka" and trade our whole draft for McFadden.

I think Glenn is gone and maybe Crayton depending on his salary demand. We might trade for Fitz and still draft a WR also.

I see Barber moving into more of a featured role next year, so I dont know if JuJo is going to bail on us. Probably depends on what type of contract offers he gets.

I really dont think we are going to use a day 1 pick (1st and 2nd round now) on defense. We have like 7 first rounders on defense as it is now.

The only position on the defense that I would think we would even look at on day 1 is CB, every other position seems to have either established vets or younger players who were all first rounders themselves.

CB is it I think.:)

I dont know how Moss and TO would get along. We finally have TO playing team ball and I dont know how he would react to Moss. Last thing we need is for the two of them to be going at it with each other on the sideline during a game because one guy is getting more balls than the other.

Same thing with Moss. He seems to be back to his old self in NE, but he might come here and it turns out to be "Raiders, part 2".
