I Think Jerry Is Going To Go Heavy Offense In The Offseason.

IF we make it to the SB or close, what would we really need? IMO, forget about youngsters for 1 year and 1 year only.

Take a chance and take those 2 1st round picks and other players who don't fit, and go after a game changing star like TO. Someone like Fitzgerald or McFadden, or any number of teams willing to trade their Super Star who doesn't fit it into their scheme.

This is the year to take chances when all elements on your team are in perfect order right now.

NE added a star like Moss, now they can't be stopped.

I am drooling over Fitzgerald right now. .

So am I and I am perplexed why more people are obsessed more with McFadden than LF. This guy, given the tools, is a top 3-4 WR in this league - proven.

GO GET him.

he might not be available for one thing

and he is not the game breaking, game changing talent McFadden is...nor can he do as much on the field as McFadden

Afternoon Sarge, I agree with everything you said.

My question is do you think Zona will be willing to trade him for a mid first-rounder?

I dont watch Zona football so I really dont know what the situation is there with him. Is he not getting along with the coaches or something? Just kinda seems strange that they would let a young probowl reciever go.

But it is Zona, so I would not be surprised by anything they do.

Generic question for the group: Is there a player you'd trade both #1s for not named McFadden?

havent studied the draft enough to give a definite answer, but right now I'd say no...McFadden is the best player in the draft by quite a bit, and he adds something to our team we dont currently have

I didn't really take Jerry's comments like most people, I guess. I think he just meant that he'd be more likely to, say, move up in the draft or make a big trade now that we have Romo. Remember his comments that he wishes he'd traded up instead of down in some of those late 90s drafts? And I think Brackens was one name he had in mind. So I don't think he necessarily meant only offense.

Hey guy, I just read the recap of Jerry's interview and the main thing I picked up on was this:

"We will continue to improve this team. We start with Tony Romo and we want to put some things around him. That's what we did with Aikman"

This tells me offense, offense, and more offense in free agency and the draft. Considering our O-line will probably send 3 guys to the probowl, I dont think this is the area Jerry is referring to.

I think this means offensive skill players, mostly RB or WR since we are pretty stacked at TE.

RB must be either McFadden or maybe Turner from SD.
WR could be Fitzgerald or the other Roy (both would have to be trades however.

What do you guys think???

I think you're out of your mind.

Only if Mcfadden for some reason drops down to around 10 would Jerrah be willing to trade both picks for him. He has learned the lesson of Galloway.
So STOP dreaming and get real. With as low as our pick will be, its almost a 2nd rd pick. Thanks to the %$%^^%$$ browns our other pick is now at best a 15. Even putting both together will not get us in the top 10. Or if it does just barely.

One thing this year PROVED is we need another good young CB. Nate Jones is NOT it. Reeves is a good 3rd but that is about as good as he is going to get. Henry is getting up there and keeps getting injured. When healthy he is a very good 2nd. BUT healthy is something he has not been. So we will go after a CB in the draft. A first rd CB. Maybe even using both 1's to get him.

For the first time in a long time, this team has no excuse to not take the best player available.
The best player that IS NOT a quarterback, tight end, or safety anyway

While I agree, if we're set at the 1-3 CB spots, we can afford to wait till rd 2 to draft one.

Actually, I think the whole key with having Romo locked up for so long is finding him good protection.

We have some depth up front, but I can definitely see us using the draft as a means to accomplish the goal of protecting Romo. Not to mention, if we're scoring 35 points a game, there really isn't much that our defense needs as far as upgrading.

I'd like a new, younger corner back. But I'm really impressed with the way Hamlin has helped our defense.

It's coming together. But I like Olinemen... I can see us drafting a receiver too though.

I'm with you. I think JJ's eyes are wide open to the fact that "it all starts up front". On both sides of the ball.

Cowboys do need a quality young CB, too.

With as much as two first rounders will cost us, and with what it is going to take to sign veterans, I don't see Jerry keeping both first round picks. Remember TO is going to want a new contract this off season, besides all those mentioned above. I can see Jerry doing a number of creative deals with the first two picks. I think Jerry is stricken with the prospect of McFadden. I know he took one trip to watch McFadden play, and heard rumors he has sent several extra scouts to watch him. I think he could trade (1.)The two first rounders for McFadden and the other teams 2nd or 3rd round pick. (2.) Trade down one or both first rounds for a future first round picks plus extra later round picks this year. (3.) trade down an get more picks to try for some of the later WR's,RB's, and CB's. I think this draft is pretty deep in RB's that may make good NFL players.
By the way, sorry, but there is no way, Williams should be a pro-bowler this year.

I dont think we need "quantitiy" over "quality" at this point. Maybe if we were Miami and sucked at almost every position, the more picks the better.

However, with a SB caliber team already in place, there is not room for 10+ rookies to make the team. We would end up releasing 3rd and 4th rounders, so I really think the "move up" strategy is what Jerry is looking at.

Not in this draft.........McFadden is only player I would trade both 1s for in this draft.

As for vets...........LT is probably it

I still have nightmares about the Galloway trade!!!

But thats just me.;)

Thats all you got to add to the conversation???

No need to be rude about it.

I would reply in kind, but were freaking 8-1 so I am going to let it slide.:D

I would prefer that Jerry focus on our FAs first......if we do go after other teams' FAs the one guy who I really want is Asante Samuel. However, he will be very expensive and I don't wish to break the bank for him.....But the thought of Newman, Samuel, Henry, and Reeves is nice....

IF we lose, Joe Gibbs will have SERIOUS questions about the MASTER PLAN to answer:

1. Why did he let the Cowboys pass him when he had a vastly superior team at the end of 2005?

2. Why is a rookie coach, O Coordinator, and D Coordinator for Dallas getting better results then the best and most experienced staff in the league?

3. Is he right now where Landry was in 1988, totally outdated?

IF we lose this, GIBBS MUST ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS!

the thing with Brackens was we didnt have to trade up and get him, he fell right in our laps but we traded out of the first rd

and there were a couple times where we almost traded up but had deals fall apart, like 1994 when we nearly had a deal to mvoe up and get Willie McGinest

we got burned badly by trading down to accumulate picks in 95 & 96, and we still had a very good team those years...had we moved up to get a better player, somebody who could make an impact we might won another super bowl, and maybe not tanked like we did in 1997...if you have a loaded team like we did in 94, 96 and even into 96, trading down for lesser players doesnt make sense because they 1) either wont make the team anyway or 2) sit on the bench and rot because they dont have enough talent to do anything...trading down and acquiring more picks/players makes all sorts of sense if you have a lousy team w/o alot of talent (like us in 1989) but when you have a team full of good talent, you identify where you need an impact player and go get it

?

vastly superior, huh? what?

well they are good coaches, but we have really good players and a guy playing like a superstar at QB..for the record though, Wade Phillips isnt a rookie coach...he's had two HC jobs and posted winning records before

3. Is he right now where Landry was in 1988, totally outdated?

I hate to break this to you, but Gibbs was outdated the day he showed back up

dude, you guys are going to lose today...your going to lose alot more games...the Skins are not very good and dont have much talent on either side of the ball...its called rebuilding time
