I think McCarthy stays

I think Risen is right about how Jerrah thinks. Remember he's a salesman not truly a legit GM. Once he rides out this bad PR and regroups he'll start selling the same vinyl siding to brick houses.

If quinn leaves It is scary to think who they might bring in to replace him.

As bad as this defense was during this game I think people forget how bad it was before quinn got here.

And McCarthy on offense is not really the problem.

It is Him not preparing the team, consistently putting together a team that always has penalty issues. Terrible game/time management and too cozy with the players.

This team needs a HC that is more of a disciplinarian and one who will get this team to quit killing itself with penalties and game timing issues.

Sometimes a team needs a change

Sadly the real change that is need is not going to happen so we can forget about that...in other words Big and Little Enos are not going anywhere.
I agree with most of your post. However, these players are professionals. If they need to be coddled to get up and play a game that's a problem. They have done this too many times. It doesn't even matter who the coach is.

I don’t know how many times it will take fans here to understand that Jerry Jones does not think like a fan. He thinks like a guy who wants first and foremost to play with his toy every day any way he sees fit. And he will always look for a head coach - first and foremost - to make him feel comfortable doing what he wants to do.

Every fan who thinks “Jerry is mad” and is going to fire McCarthy doesn’t realize that’s not what he’s thinking tonight. He’s wondering if he can still keep Big Mac around for his comfort while hoping fans will forget by July that this even happened.

Like you Risen I expect come July we will have an 81 year old Jerry Jones smiling broadly at his “State of the Cowboys“ address in “Ox-nerd” telling us his high expectations and why we should all buy sand from him again in this desert called “the last 28 years.”

And the fans will come back in droves.
And as fans unfortunately we don’t have much choice if we want to follow and root our team on.

What we can do differently is not buying into the hype.

Philly had a vet QB in Wentz that they spent big dollars on. They moved on. They didn't wait to decide if he is the guy they moved on. That's what successful franchises do. They don't hold on to talent past their expiration date.
Wentz imploded and had locker room issues, so it's not an apples to apples comparison here. And by the time the Eagles fired Pederson, he had already benched Wentz for Hurts. So there was no shot Wentz was coming back. He was cooked in Philly.

Note, this isn't an endorsemen of Dak. I think we should cut bait but I am also a nitwit on an internet message board like the rest of us. The prudent way to do this would be hire a GM and new coach and let them decide what to do with the QB.

Of course he does. Jerry is stuck on Dak; Dak loves McCarthy; and McCarthy doesn't push back on Jerry's carnival atmosphere. Hey, the money keeps rolling in.

Im not sure MM is save after this debacle. He could have not put himself more on the hot seat in any way possible. If they would have shown any signs of life yesterday he would be save even in a loss. But this team played like it gave up on him and the whole staff.

Jerrys time is running out and he knows it. Dude is 81 and might only have another 3-5 years left in the tank.

As much as he loves his guys he wants to prove the world that hes a football guy and can win.

If he keeps MM you know he has given up on the idea of winning one more time before he meets the lord

mr Risen----how many make or break years have we had????....they all break...how can any cowboy coach or player look themselves in the mirror?
i bet this does knock down cowboy memoribillia sales
Unfortunately not enough to make an impact.

If our check was in the mail we might get over it faster as well.

They moved on under the current coaching staff though. And Wentz imploded and had locker room issues, so it's not an apples to apples comparison here.

Again....they MOVED ON. What we have here is an organization that thinks there is no one out there better than what they have. They like "their guys" - guy who toe the company line.

Jerry has already said McCarthy will be back in so many words. Jerry was talking about a contract extension when he said we'll see how the playoffs go. Had McCarthy made a good run he probably would have been extended. Now, I doubt it.

Jerry won't fire MM for many reasons, the biggest being he's afraid of change because it makes him look stupid.

After having some time to think about it, I don't believe Jerry will fire McCarthy for two reasons and these are Jerry reasons not necessarily sensible ones.

1) He'll look to the improvement on offense in just the first year with Mike in charge. He'll expect growth in year 2. He won't want to give up on that. He'd see it as a disservice to his QB. Who he's about to pay again.

2) McCarthy will be coaching out his final year of his contract in 2024. Jerry's mentioned in the past liking this scenario as it's a great motivator for a coach.

This is how Jerry thinks. It will take some effort from his advisors to get him to change direction right now. He won't want to do it and I don't think some conversation he had with Bill Belichick in 1996 plays any part in this.

Another go for McCarthy in a make or break year. That's my prediction.
I was hoping the Dallas Texans were coming back. Not Mm. dq, or any of the other facades in this organizatio.

It wouldn't shock me one bit. Just like yesterday didn't shock me.

It's not only losing post season games but how we lose those games. We absolutely fall apart and then it is impossible to re-compose ourselves and overcome the deficit against the more competitive teams in post-season. On top of that it was at home and we absolutely had a golden opportunity to play even more games at home had we beaten this young Packers team.
100%, coaching change probably would be totally off the table if we lost on a last second field goal or a player made a costly mistake in the 4th quarter, etc. However, that team came out as flat and uninspired as they could have and thats on the coaches.

No one should be satisfied with the job of the coaching staff, but it all comes down to how close Jerry thinks we're and if there's a coach out there he feels could do a better job.

100% agree. Said the same thing. Jerry will not give any true control. Gotta sell jerseys

Before the game, Jerry Jones on Mike McCarthy’s future: "We’ll see how each game goes"

After the game, Jerry Jones called this Cowboys’ loss one of his biggest surprises since he's been involved in sports. “I’m floored.”

BYE McCarthy!
You have to do something.......has to be a fallout, and if not........there's the continued problem. Need a "furniture moving" coach. Mediocre and undisciplined play been going unscathed too long.

I would normally say no way. I preface this by saying I like Mike a lot. He’s a really good guy, and his offense, outside of the running game is light years better than Moore and JG. Having said that, with Bill and a few others just laying out there the time to pounce is now.

Bill is 71 and wants to pass Shula for most wins. He needs 14 more wins. This team is ready to win now, they just need discipline, and a culture shock.

MM is a great yes man and Jerry can sell 10 to 12 wins and doesn’t like change. He will not do the right thing and axe MM and let Dak play out his contract because he’s happy he can sell hope to the fan base

Bill Belichick won't wait a year.
You’re right. And I know you aren’t promoting him but should we really go for another past retirement age retread who’s never won without a HOF Qb?

I agree
Doubt he is fired
I think they will do the following:
- Replace Quinn and get bigger LBs and say they are committing to stop the run
- get a starting RB and say they are revamping the run game
- give McCarthy one more year
- whether or not they extend Dak I am not sure
