I think the defense will be better than expected

I have no idea why you're looking at his actual NFL production over three years when we have NFLdraftscout's 2011 rankings to go on.

As I said earlier, Nick Hayden was more productive in 2013 than Terrell McClain has been in his entire career.

And, no one wants Nick Hayden to play on this team.

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4725557/scouting-terrell-mcclain

McClain offers some flexibility. He played nose tackle in Wade Phillips’ 3-4 scheme and slid over to defensive end a times. He is probably more suited for the one-technique with the Cowboys but might be able to help as a three-technique in small doses.

An AFC scout told me McClain is better suited for a 4-3 and is a one-gap player but not a 16-game starter.

Against San Francisco, McClain got caught in the wash a few times, especially on some goal line runs where he could not anchor. He plays well with his hands and he is active. Late in the game he played right defensive end and was pretty quick off the ball, which caught guard Mike Iupati by surprise. He played in only 18 of 53 snaps in the game.

Against Tennessee, he was more active. He was able to slip by the center and stop Chris Johnson for a 1-yard gain. He has good feet and does not stop moving. If he is blocked, he will continue to chase the ball, which I thought was a positive in the final game of a lost season for the Texans. He did not show much in terms of pass rush but he played with OK length. He tried a spin move but it didn’t really work out too well.

The Cowboys signed McClain to be a rotation player and that’s what he looks like. I’ll offer this up as well: I liked him better than Earl Mitchell, who received $9 million guaranteed from the Miami Dolphins as a free agent. Granted it was only two games, but Mitchell looked like he was easier to block than McClain in those two games.

Lost my interest right about here.

Not a graceful way to start a thread, IMO.

Exactly. Just a way to say "if you disagree with me", you are a troll. I read nothing after that.

This front 7 is one of the weakest and most unproven in this league. There is not one legit starter in our front 7. They are starting because we have no other choice or option due to many circumstances.

He's a hell of a worker, he just sucks.

Just seems like people are pretending
like He's holding us back. He's about as good as everyone else on defense. they're all below average players. Pretty comfortably even. at least with hayden he's cheap and doesn't yap like claireborne.

I'd say he's very near our worst starter on a very poor defense. What other players at other positions do you honestly like less? I don't have a particular problem with him in a rotation if he's one of the best 1 techs we can find, but it's no mystery why people want to upgrade that level of play. Especially when you take into account that he had more snaps along the DL last season than any other player.

listen bro...all our d line yes are no names...get over it what do u want...root for another team or play fantasy...why do u gotta be a hater...i believe in the Dallas cowboys its coaches and what it means to wear the star...now that being said. Why not us?...why can't our team get it together in time for regular season?...dixon,Crawford,selvie,mo,Carr and other players step it up for a whole other reason other than football..my point is you never know, why would you waste your time thinking otherwise?

lmao....in that san Diego game Cesar rayford made a play...i think at DT...that I could of swore reminded me of Jason Hatcher..i think it was the goal line stand just before the half I wish I had that play to see again..anyways people said that Hatcher was succesful because of the system, I believe that. I also believe Cesar can plug himself into this system well if he gained some strength and a little more weight..but a perfect time to do that is know, I hope to see him make the team

NO!!!! This defense has gotten way worse... we have lost 4-5 of the best players from last yr! And have replaced them with unproven vets, injured vets, and rookies. The 2ndary is iffy at BEST! (I do have hopes the will suprise) The front 7 is a compilation of other teams rejects!

I'm offended ppl would even argue this defense will be able to improve much. Lol

It was interesting that they had Rayford (6-7, 267) at DT on a short yardage situation.

He held his ground better than you woud expect for a tall DE playing DT.

On that specific play, he reminded me of Too Tall.

Not a graceful way to start a thread, IMO.

It was a weak attempt to minimize the reality of the situation, try to undermine those 'raining on the parade' with facts before they start..

Some fans can blind themselves all they want, but the fact is that this defense - worst in the NFL last season - looks worse than last year.

I hope they can salvage something decent, but the current results say otherwise.

My fandom does not require me to blind myself to the truth.

This defense has gotten way worse... we have lost 4-5 of the best players from last yr!

The combined production we lost from those players can be made up. Losing players is one thing and losing their production is another and the 2 need seperated. We lost far more in name recognition than production IMO.
