I think this team is in worse shape than we think

I say scheme, because it was all Romo; with him gone, we were limited, inflexible, and predictable.

Should been able to adjust, adapt, and advance.

I agree.
But the scheme is largely designed by Romo.
All that talk of time at the office with Linehan clearly wasn't just platitudes.
Romo is the Co-OC and it is LITERALLY his offense.
When he said he'd go find his replacement I suspect this is what he meant.

Adjusting the scheme away from Romo's tendencies is tough because it means all the rest of the offense has to learn new things.
This offense has been out of sync since week 2 and it has looked like crap.
With Moore it looked like our scheme again, albeit with an inexperienced gunslinger at the helm.
We need to focus not on QB raw talent but having a back up who can run this offense.

End of the day I just really hope it doesn't matter next year. 1 more full year with Romo is all I ask....

I dont know how old you are, but Ive been a Cowboys fan for 40+ years. Watched every Super Bowl except for the one against the Colts, and went to Super Bowl's 27 & 30. Been to numerous regular season games as well from Detroit to Dallas to Miami and in between. Not that I really need to try to prove my fanhood to you or anybody else, but Im a fan nevertheless. So if it makes you feel better to question it carry on.

Now, as far as posting does anybody really care what my thots on the roster are? Draft? Scheme? Training methods? Etc? Will what I post have any effect on anything that happens with this team? Will what I post change anything? Would it even change anybody's mind about anything? If I posted about Witten being a good enough TE for this team and not one of our problems, would it change the minds of anybody that thinks he's past his prime, clogging up the roster and preventing the younger guys from stepping up?

Or should I be calling Jerry a great owner? Should I be talking about how well respected Jason Garrett is around the league and still pumping the s u n freakin s h i n e after a 5 yr run of mediocrity?

I would suggest that if negative posting about the Cowboys bothers you then you might be happier not reading a fan forum or following a team that has had a 20 yr run of glorified mediocrity and a team that has given far more joy to the fans of other teams that hate us than it has provided for its own fans.

This coming Sunday I will watch and expect to win the game like I do every week. Not once, in 40+ yrs have I ever expected to lose a game, not even in the Campo era. But for 20 yrs now about all I can do is be happy for the history and just like Troy, I can dwell in the past because the present is best dealt with being able to laugh about.

Thanks for your positive contributions here and have a Merry Christmas.

I have been a Cowboy's fan for 44 years. And I too have high expectations for this team. Please tell me when I ever said Jerry was a great owner? Jerry has had plenty of screw ups over the years. The QB debacle this year falls squarely on his shoulders. You shouldn't assume anything, unless you have evidence to the contrary. Just like I shouldn't assume someone who has been a Cowboy's fan for 40 plus years like myself, to get over the disappointment of a crappy season, and to start rationally discussing ways for this team to improve going forward instead of constantly posting Jerry sucks every chance he gets.

Anyone who claims Jerry is the personnel guy is simply not worth discussing football with.
Stephen Jones makes final football decisions with all talent/skill input routed through McClay.
Jerry gets credit and blame from the intentionally uninformed and the goofy.

Fire Jerry nonsense is and has always been spitting or other bodily functions in the wind.

Yet another fellow fan that gets it. I would also add "basic" coaching to that issues list.

Coaching is a definite problem. When the scheme never changes to accommodate for a new QB coming in, and expecting the same results, someone has to wonder what planet he is in.

If other teams can win with backup QBs, why can't we. Thus we really need to figure out whats wrong with our coaching first. Then go from there.

So when jerry says "I was a committee of one" in 2014, he is lying and knows nothing but you, a complete outsider know how VR works?

Your post just completely ignores the facts but please continue to delude yourself

If you guys are waiting for this team to field a pro bowler at every position, that day will never come. Look at the Panthers....what play makers do they have on offense that warrants a 14-0 record? Newton,Stewart, Ginn, Brown and Olsen?? I could argue with a healthy Romo, McFaddden, Dez, TWill and Witten we are better than them.

The main trouble here is has always been the GM and the puppet coaches that are brought in.

The Giants have a starting calber QB and lost a lot of close games too. I don't think it's quite as simple as, "We didn't have Romo."

Romo would be enough to win those close games we lost. Not saying we don't have holes to fill but yes it is that simple. ...as We didn't have Romo

We lost alot of close games this year we would have won with a starting caliber QB

6 losses by a TD or less with Weeden and Cassel QB'ing this team

Add Romo and Dez to that mix and we win most if not all 6 of those games.

agree and disagree.

I believe we're actually a pretty talented team with decently allocated resources, which is a good reflection of the FO.

in this league you're just not going to have stars at every position... Or even adequate, should-be, starters at every position.

The biggest problem is the offensive playbook. It is just not an NFL caliber playbook and employs a piss-poor philosophy.

And really I'm not too keen on Rod's philosophy against the run, but it works when the offense works.

The offense only works when Romo alters it an, d then works a miracle.

This is the reason why the OP is getting the head in sand one liners. They just can't acknowledge the lack of involvement JG had in the glorified 12-4 last season. Instead, it becomes unreasonable for us "complainers" to point to the innovation that is displayed by other successful offenses. Our offense does not resemble any pre-planned strategy to continued offensive success.

There is mass chaos on almost every passing snap, excessively necessary audibling and basically sandlot play showing how talented Romo is in orchestrating a play either @ the LOS or through improvisation after the snap. They want some of that credit (offensive ranking) to go to JG when this season showed that it was accomplished by Romo's ability to find Dez/other receivers on his own without ANY help from JG/Linnehan's scheme. But if we had a backup QB...not that simple, esp when Romo is on his last legs and the team can't rely on him to bail them out so many times. he team needs to improve in offensive scheme/draft a QB early/ sure up the LB/Secondary.

So what does JG/SL get paid for again? No motion drags, rub/pick plays, slants? I know Weeden/Casse were garbage, but where were the coaches to orchestrate an adaptable "short term scheme"? I think that is what JJ was referencing to in his disappointment regarding the coaching staff's lack of ability to "coach em up---players" into a few wins. Kind of a, "what do you do all week type?" type of vibe.

With Romo and Dez we make the playoffs but no way we beat Carolina or AZ or Seattle the way they are playing

We have an above average team with bad coaching

I agree we make the playoffs. Beating those 3 teams, who knows. The Cowboy team dynamic would be so different it's hard to say.

The season has been horrible and some players have had rough years but there's still talent on this team. It's not like they've been getting blown out. It's been a weird season with the penalties. Think of all the crazy penalties that have been called against the Cowboys this year. I'm not crying a conspiracy theory but I've just seen some terrible calls by the officials that have wiped out big plays. The defense plays great all game and just can't get a stop on the final drive. And then they can't get a turnover. It's crazy how many missed interceptions and fumbles that players have whiffed on. The playcalling on offense has been very offensive to watch. No imagination and all the horrible jumbo sets for 1 yard that they don't get. It's so irritating how stubborn Garrett is. Quit calling the same play over and over that never works. We have seen all the different ways the Cowboys have found to lose games. The players haven't executed very good and that is on them. But the coaches have let them down too. They have a shot of having a very good draft and I think that's an area where they have improved the last couple of years. I think they can grab a couple of good free agents also and this team will be ready to roll again next year. We haven't watched this team get steamrolled this year. They've been in every game. It's just been a weird year where all the wrong things that could go wrong did.
