Same way we relied on those WRs last seasonIt’s bad management to rely on Tyron at this point.
But here we are.

I love what he has done in the past, but 17 starts in the last 3 years is not top 5 material. It just isn't.There are 64 starting Tackles in the league. He's in the top 5.
Stephen Jones: "We'll play the best 5. I can't see any scenario where Tyron is not in the top 5".People just need to stop with the "Tyron should be the swing tackle" argument. When healthy, Tyron will play. Why? Because he's still the best OT on the team. You don't sit your best player just because he MIGHT get hurt. If he's healthy, he's one of the top 2-3 OT's in the entire NFL. If he get's hurt, you deal with it.
His restructured contract is incentive based, where he gets docked pay if he does get hurt. But Tyron will start. He will either start at LT or RT. Tyler will start. He will either start at LT or LG. The undrafted Terence Steele will either start at RT, or be the swing tackle. There is NO SCENARIO at all where Tyron Smith is the swing tackle. Either he's healthy and starts, or he's hurt, and the younger guys play. If Tyron gets hurt, then the Cowboys have 4 players on the roster who can fill in at the swing tackle position - Waletzko, Ball, Edoga and Richards. All but Waletzko will get time at both Guard and Tackle during training camp.
IF....that part of your statement regarding Tyron Smith and his staying healthy is the equivalent of IF you win the lottery....chances are not good.People just need to stop with the "Tyron should be the swing tackle" argument. We used to have coaches that forced players into their system.I do think sometimes the JG years here messed with some fans heads.."This guy can only play here...." it was such a hostage situation that some fans got stockholmes... MM looks at talent and says "These are our most talented guys, get them in spots and lets make it work "
https://cowboyszone.com/threads/a-review-of-the-roster-post-draft.510832/page-2#post-12751773I must have missed all of the ‘Tyron Smith swing tackle!’ threads…
Sure there is history, but the question remains, if Tyron Smith is on your team do you start him if he is healthy? Second we spent a 1st round pick last year to insure a Tyron injury is covered..how many picks to we throw at this before its too much?IF....that part of your statement regarding Tyron Smith and his staying healthy is the equivalent of IF you win the lottery....chances are not good.
Once Steele is recovered they don't have to rely on him. They will have 2 other quality OT's, so if he goes down we are still covered at the positionIt’s bad management to rely on Tyron at this point.
But here we are.
When he's playing, he's still top 5. There isn't an expert or coach in the league that would suggest otherwise.I love what he has done in the past, but 17 starts in the last 3 years is not top 5 material. It just isn't.
And expecting to him to start and last an entire season at this point is a pipe dream.
You can put Tyron at RT since Steele isn't likely to be ready to go to start the season anyway. That's where he played late in the season and in the playoffs. That would leave Smith at LT. The concern is filling the LG positionThis argument is short-sighted when you take into account the importance of continuity and the development of Tyler Smith.
Yes, Tyron (on paper) is better that Tyler and LT. Though, even when playing LT he has posted poor games when returning from injury--he really needs 1-2 games to get back to himself after missing time.
So what will happen is that eventually Smith will exit the line up and you will begin the game of musical chairs which weakness the entire left side & stunts the development of your future LT.
Swing gives you excellent depth and maintains his heath.
Short, sweet and the truth. It’s bad management to rely on Tyron at this point.

Some, like Voch Lombardi, think he would be better at guard. I can see that.Tyler Smith gave up 6 sacks and had 11 penalties in 17 total games his rookie season playing LT.
In the last 3 seasons, Tyron Smith played 17 games (out of 50) and allowed 3 sacks, and had 8 penalties.
So, while Tyler may have given up twice the amount of sacks and 3 more penalties, he was healthy for 17 games and played well in his rookie season.
Now, Dallas is going to kick him inside to OG to allow for the oft-injured Tyron to play.
Dallas needs to stop blocking the growth of young players all in the name of playing aging, injured veterans.
The NFL is not about what you did for a franchise but what you can do for a franchise.
Why is it so hard to imagine Tyron playing RT and leaving Tyler at LT. He did it last year, and Steele likely won't be back to start the season anyway..Tyler Smith gave up 6 sacks and had 11 penalties in 17 total games his rookie season playing LT.

Yeah, this is the problem. When healthy, Tyron will play. Why? Because he's still the best OT on the team.
Yea I’ve never understand how anyone could think otherwise.
Sure - maybe he gets hurt again but you don’t just bench him in fear of that.
He’s the best LT on the roster so he needs to be out there.
