Many here jumped on the I hate Mike Jenkins a year ago. Now he is gone and we are stuck with a wonderlic ****** that simply stinks..... Claiborne has been benched and Jenkins is in Oakland where he is laughing.
We should have kept Jenkins. His second year resulted in a Pro Bowl performance. He was very much a shut down CB. His third year, he struggled. I really think we should have kept him, and right now I think most of you do too. Cue the guy that knows the liquor store clerk, maybe you know more than I do....
We moved up in the draft for a need we didn't have, and ignored needs we actually did.
Jenkins may have had a bad attitude.... ALLEGED..... We don't know. All I know is Claiborne sucks and Jenkins didn't.
Flamesuit is on... But come out of the closet fellas... Who here wanted Claiborne over Jenkins... YOU WERE WRONG.
I was a big Mike Jenkins fan after drafting him and especially after his second season, but after watching his third season, it became clear that he isn't the type of player you give big money to. He just isn't self motivated. As a rookie, Scandrick was the better player. He responded to the criticism, buy playing at a pro-bowl level, more so than Newman who was actually voted in and not an alternate. And in 2010, he played worst than any CB I have ever seen. He couldn't cover anyone and drew so many pass interference penalties, that they may have named the penalty after him. And it may not have been him having bad attitude, but just a lazy one. He rebounded slightly in 2011, but not nearly enough to make you forget 2010.
Now as far as Claiborne, he may never be as good as Jenkins was in 2009, or even now, but you when you gamble on a player like Mike Jenkins, you will lose 9/10 times. And if Oakland signs him long term, and he plays well, then I have no problem saying I was wrong, but right now letting Jenkins go was not a mistake. Drafting Claiborne may have been, but Jenkins needed to go.
