I understand no big FA's, but why no trades?

I understand our free agent philosophy of not spending big. But why not explore the trade market more aggressively. NE traded its 2nd rounder for DE Kony Ealy and CAR's 3rd rounder. That's 8 spots for a former second round DE who was a terror in the Super Bowl. I realize he's only averaged 5 sacks per year, but he is young, at a position of need, and has a cap hit of only $800K this year (free agent next year). Just wondering why we are not more creative on the trade front?
Trades don't happen in the NFL. I hear it all the time.

Crawford is a dt more than de

This will be dlaws last year and he hasn't done anything.

Irving hasn't showed much

Moore is an unknown with no much promise.

Ealy isn't as good as Crawford with one arm.

Yeah, Irving's a slouch. I get it.

In addition the Cowboys use the 3-3-5 quite often which means even less need for another SDE.

Dallas is not set at either side of de.

LDE is ok with irving and dlaw - at least good enough for 2017
the problem is RDE - currently with Mayowa and god knows who
i guess that is why they signed Moore...

oh yes, i guess tapper may slot in at rde with his 4.6 speed.
even if he does not have much bend, he can compensate a bit by lining up in a wide 9 formation.

moore has plenty of potential but he has a bad brain

I understand your point about trades, but Early was a bust for Carolina. Had the one great game in the SB, but was benched in 2016. NE uses rotation on the OL; perhaps being a part timer will help.

NE can afford to toss out a 2nd for potential. Dallas shouldn't.
They didn't toss a second, they moved back 8 spots. Not bad for a flyer on a potential pass rusher. 5 sacks would about lead our team, btw.

NE is just the superior front office, it can't really be argued.

I get the injury thing.

But bottom line Dallas didn't want Ealy.

And I get that.
That 8 spot move is probably about a 4th round pick I'd guess. I'd bet that the Cowboys would have rather had the pick then the player. Ealy is alright, but we have alright in spades at SDE.

We need to draft de's. They're most likely not going to do much they're 1st year. Need to get some going so we have reinforcement's coming.

Mayowa is the best de

i think irving is better but not sure if he would line up in dt or de.
given we have collins, tcrawford, thornton and paea, i suspect irving would play more lde than 3tech.
though he and tcrawford could rotate between those 2 positions, depending on who is able to get the pressure any particular position.

in a pass rush, we could go 3-3-5 or even with 2 linemen, where we would put the pass rusher in at lb.
pass rush lb may be easier to draft like watt than a proper rde.

Agreed.

But they need to draft WDE.

And that guy doesn't have to start. He needs to contribute 300 snaps as the back up to Mayowa.

Crawford's ok but always injuried.

we cannot cut crawford. his salary is guaranteed for 2017.
we have too many rotation players already - tcrawford, irving, mayowa, collins, thornton, paea, tapper.
that is 7 rotation players, and i am not counting moore because he may be crazy.

we have room to add 1, at most, 2 players on the DL
we need a proper RDE

if they cannot get that, they may retreat to drafting blitzing LBs to pair up with Jaylon and Lee for more exotic blitzing schemes.

I know we can't cut him because of his contract. I just want to draft some des.

i think everyone on the board wants to draft de's.
the problem is we are at 28.
we may have to settle for a blitzing LB.
so may be not a daddy
but a mini-daddy :lmao:

That's the only thing that sucks when you do good but fail lol. You get real low picks

Pretty sure there is no guaranteed salary with Tyrone Crawford this season. The issue is that his dead money hit is large enough that it would actually cost us money to cut him and have to replace him on the roster, a minimum in the 600k range, and likely more then that, unless you make him a post June 1.

Trades are about relationships and respect.

There is a reason you always hear about Dallas offering up players for trade and they end up having to cut them or allow them to leave in free agency.

Morris and especially Romo are the latest examples. Teams know who and what they are dealing with. Or not dealing with to be exact.
