I understand no big FA's, but why no trades?

we cannot cut crawford. his salary is guaranteed for 2017.
we have too many rotation players already - tcrawford, irving, mayowa, collins, thornton, paea, tapper.
that is 7 rotation players, and i am not counting moore because he may be crazy.

we have room to add 1, at most, 2 players on the DL
we need a proper RDE

if they cannot get that, they may retreat to drafting blitzing LBs to pair up with Jaylon and Lee for more exotic blitzing schemes.
I hope you're right given I doubt we have a shot at a proper RDE, but Rod hates blitzing almost as much as he hates big DTs.

Pretty sure there is no guaranteed salary with Tyrone Crawford this season. The issue is that his dead money hit is large enough that it would actually cost us money to cut him and have to replace him on the roster, a minimum in the 600k range, and likely more then that, unless you make him a post June 1.

tcrawford's large 2017 salary is now guaranteed.

Unless we u do like Arizona did and franchise them after the season.

the obvious option is richardson from the jets.
he is big enough to be a daddy.
they wanted a 1st round pick for him.
many have said the demands are lower now.
he has a 8M salary this year which we can absorb by restructuring dez.
then he can be franchised for 2 years assuming he is any good.

I understand our free agent philosophy of not spending big. But why not explore the trade market more aggressively. NE traded its 2nd rounder for DE Kony Ealy and CAR's 3rd rounder. That's 8 spots for a former second round DE who was a terror in the Super Bowl. I realize he's only averaged 5 sacks per year, but he is young, at a position of need, and has a cap hit of only $800K this year (free agent next year). Just wondering why we are not more creative on the trade front?
Because we want to build through the draft?

:lmao:....No

Jerry is afraid he would get taken to the cleaners. @ least he learned a lesson in his Roy Williams debacle.

Other factors....Age. Laziness....Face it....the guy got his gold jacket and doesn't want to work anymore.

Real GMs grind. Find hidden value in deals. Jerry has never....and I mean never done that. And it shows. WE haven't won anything in 20+ years.
That's McClay's job now, Jerry just basks in his glory from the past. I hope they have a plan but he has done well so far so I'm not going to complain... yet.

The trade game is the weakest aspect of the FO.

I'd like to see more done in this department, but to be honest I don't know how effective trades like those are.

But it seems like we see too many players walk for nothing.
I guess that you forgot that Jerry traded H.Walker and it lead to 3 Super Bowls.

i think there were more blitzing end of last season when we got more sacks
