Idea: Throwback Game at the Cotton Bowl

Yeah but just as most all stadiums have done they have increased the overall seating. As I mentioned College stadium for the most part are bigger than the NFL stadiums many pack in over 100,000 every weekend.

I rarely ever watch college football, just the national championship game. I’m all about the NFL.

I love college football. I'm passionate about Cowboys football but I love the college game.

I used to watch college football back in the 70s and through the 80s but got put off with the bowl games and polls that determined the national champion. They were adding more and more bowl games. I believe in playoffs and a championship game to crown a champion so I grew tired of college football. Once I stopped watching college football I never looked back. I watch the national championship game but that’s about it. Even on New Year’s Day I don’t watch college football.

Bullet, Jerry didn't spend billions to erect the Palace in Dallas just to give away a game to another venue. Also, hr can't charge $100 for a $10 pizza there. Hahaha

I get that and was glad when college put in the playoffs, now expecting to expand that to 12 teams. As for more of the smaller bowl game in my view still entertaining and helps those teams come recruitment time. I just love the tradition and rivalry of college football. Of course I love NFL as well

what is it to me? uhm... someone asked a question about throw back games in old stadiums... we are discussing that. Answer your question?

IMO, it can hardly be a throw back game if a team plays in a new baseball stadium.

I missed their hard and fast rule that the original building they played in needed to be still standing. That's because it wasn't there.

When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s you basically had just a few bowl games. The Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl were all on New Year’s Day. I remember the Astro Bluebonnet Bowl at the Astrodome. They kept adding more bowl games. College teams with several losses were making bowl games. There were so many bowl games with ridiculous sponsor names I lost track. You would have a couple of great undefeated college teams and they never got the opportunity to play each other. You had to wait for a poll to come out to find out who the National Champion was. I hated it! By the time they started a playoff system I had lost interest in college football. Besides, I like doing other things on Saturday afternoons. I spend my entire Sunday watching football, that’s enough for me.

I get early tee time on Sat so I get back home for the games. after the season is over I have ample time to do many different thing. lol

you are right, it wasnt there, but it is idiotic to take the original posters question and think applying a brand new stadium meets the criteria he was bringin up, which was having teams play in theor old stadiums as a throwback to years gone by.

But hey... you can change it in anyway you want.

It will probably never happen. But I think it would be fun for once every season to see the Cowboys play a “throwback game” at the Cotton Bowl wearing throwback blue and white uniforms, etc. Maybe some “throwback” prices for end zone seats, etc. Seems like it would create some good vibes and PR.

The NHL has been very successful with their throwback outdoor hockey game the last few seasons. Seems like an idea that would be fun and different for the NFL.

But it will probably never happen. Too much cash to be raked in at the giant shopping mall in Arlington.

Would you be in favor?

I went to see Aikman play against the Razorbacks in the Cotton Bowl the year he was heading into the draft. I can remember that most of that game the Bruins were running the ball. But late in the third quarter Aikman threw a rope about thirty yards to his tight in running up the seam. I was sold then he was the guy.

It had been years since I went to the Cotton Bowl. Other than a Texas/OU game I took my dad to, and spent a small fortune to sit on the fifty yard line, it had been decades since I sat in the stands. If you sit up under the upper deck, there are support columns which have seats right behind them. If you lean left or right, you can see the endzones. Otherwise you are looking at aged concrete. And these seats are about the 45-yard line. And there are several of these strategically placed running parallel with the field.

I can just imagine the season ticket holders who find themselves wondering why they paid a premium price to listen to the crowd noise and watch the scoreboard.

But I do recall the time where kids could sit in the endzones at Cowboy games for one dollar.

I'll pass on this, mainly because we are doomed to fail when we honor something from the past.

Remember the red helmet striping against Denver last season?

92,000 is what Cotton Bowl is capacity. Honestly most college stadiums hold more than most NFL stadium since college games bring in SB sized crowd every weekend.
traffic sux worse in that area then the old Texas stadium, too little access in and out its phreaking nightmare for fans..i doubt this would be as successful as many thinks. maybe a PS exhibition game there now and then but as RS , NO! I dotn go to the fair anymore because of how and traffic is in those areas.

Arlington, BY far is tr best of the 3 locations weve had as far is many more option s in and out as well as centrally located in DFWE plus closer to DFW airport for visitors etc

Im glad Laurne miller decided to act as if the cowboys Fair park project wouldn't be good for Dallas. she blew it..

Texas stadium at least for me was not bad, then again I stayed at the hotel across the frwy from Texas Stadium and we walked over to the stadium so never had to deal with parking or traffic. At AT@T we park on 6 flag blvd? right across from the old baseball stadium. Bit of a walk but then again by the time I get back to the car the traffic leaving it not bad.

Again I'm missing the part where original building still standing was the mandated criteria even in the OP. He mentioned it being something the Cowboys could do and that it would be a good idea for the NFL to do in general. Only a few teams could do it with the original buildings but why would you not still do it with the Giants who played at the most famous baseball stadium in the world that still has the same name in the same area? That's not "idiotic," it's expounding on how the original idea could be accomplished since the in general part wasn't specified.

I like the idea of it, but I was hearing for a long time that the Cotton Bowl was in pretty bad shape, plus how would Jerry justify it to the city of Arlington that is counting on revenue from Jerry World to pay back the investment? I suspect Jerry may be contractually bound to play all home games at Jerry World anyway.

The Cotton Bowl was refurbished about a decade ago and is in much better shape than it used to be. Several college games are still played there including the annual Texas-OU game. But you’re right about Arlington and what they have invested in the current stayjum.

I want an exact replica of Texas Stadium built in its original location and the team to play there permanently.

The entire lot where Texas Stadium used to stand is still open land, including the parking lots. Texas DOT uses the area for storage these days. Doesn't seem like it would take much to get this done.

The benefits: It's closer to the Frisco training facility. It's also closer to home for Jerry by about 10 miles miles.

Git 'er done !!

Of course I would be in favor. But are you talking about the uniforms they wore when they lost SB V and the NFC championship game to the Eagles? If so, I'd still be in favor. But it wouldn't take too many more losses for me to sour on the idea of wearing those cursed rags!

I was talking about the unis they wore in the early 60s in the Cotton Bowl- the Royal blue jerseys and white helmets with the blue star. Similar to the ones they will be wearing on Turkey Day this year.
