Troy could throw a better ball. That's about it.

Romo was forced to do so much more. Blame Jerry or coaching but Troy wouldn't have had the career he had if he were QBing in the Romo era.

Not to mention the elephant in the room in Troy Aikmans favor... 22....
And at times the number 1 defense in the league plus great coaching on both sides of the ball

I don't really compare the two as players one way or the other.
But their situations (offensive and defensive coaching, offensive talent, defensive talent) where not comparable.

If Aikman were still our quarterback.
Half of us would still be upset.
Jerry would still be telling us how good he looks in the shower.
And Joe Buck would be working with Moose:)

Troy threw a better slant, post, and fade. Not really even close.

One nice thing about this thread is it shows the young fans from older ones .. you know, the poor unlucky ones who only hear about Cowboys glory and never saw it, so for them, Romo is football Jesus ..

Troy might be the most accurate passer in NFL history.

But Emmitt Smith won us games most of the time. That was Emmitts team.

Agree. The pass game was to move us inside the 20 then 10. Once inside the ten we were nearly unstoppable with Emmitt.

I for one was surprised with the first SB win to see so much passing and Irvin with multiple TD's....

I think you're getting caught up with nostalgia when it comes to Aikman. He was in a perfect situation. Romo was in a chaotic situation.

Romo could just do more as a QB. He could carry more on his shoulders.

He doesn't have all of the accolades that Aikman does because he never had to just sit back and be a glorified bus driver like Aikman was.

And you can’t compare a second year player to any other players career
Maybe try comparing Romo, Troy and dak’s first two years
My guess is most might be a bit surprised
Take Romo off the list then since he was on the bench

I don't think people realize how good Aikman was.

Emmitt running the ball a gazillion times a game didn't help Aikmans numbers. But I believe that he could have, and would today, put up huge numbers in a different offense.

You put Aikman in todays pass happy offenses with the liberal pass intereference rules, and he would be throwing for 350 a game , easy. He made Irvins career, and Irvin never had any separation. Dez is a burner compared to Michael Irvn which just proves its not all about wr speed.

If Turner was the OC, this would be a timing based pass offense and it is unlikely Dez would be the #1 or that Williams would be #2. Beasley could have played the K-Mart role pretty well.

One thing that Gillman/Coryell/Zampese/Martz offense did was insure that the patterns took the receivers beyond the marker. This offense has too many passes completed behind the markers.

Irvin wasn't the greatest route runner his first couple of seasons but Turner made sure he learned and Aikman made sure he wouldn't see the ball if he wasn't where he was supposed to be when he was supposed to be there. That's the main reason Irvin used the push off so much and so well, his moves alone were not going to get him there.

Any QB with the mechanics and accuracy that Aikman possessed would do well with any offense providing they could protect him.

I think Troy Aikman would have lost his **** with this team last year. I think he would be riding Dex about his poor routes and drops like a rented mule. I believe he would have "frozen" Dez out and told Garret he isn't getting any more targets from me.

I think he would be bashing Witten for being 3 yards shy of the sticks in his routes. That would have infuriated Troy.

I also think he would be losing his **** on Garrett too for not making adjustments. Troy could barely stand Barry Switzer for being too lax and they were WINNING games with Switzer. He would melt completely down on Garrett and Company.

I watched every game. Romo was a football Jesus. I actually feel like the people who don’t realize it didn’t watch other teams. He’s so underrated by the media and our own fans, and this thread proves it. It’s a dang shame, you can already see it, romos true amazing play will never get credit. The man basically was the only thing keeping Jason and Jerry from being the laughing stock of the nfl for the last 10
Years.
