If Aikman were the QB

Aikman vs. Romo is a kind of pointless debate because the circumstances were so different.

I mean, are we going to argue that it didn't matter that Aikman played with a bunch of Hall of Famers? Or that his head coach was Jimmy Johnson instead of Jason Garrett?

We KNOW what happened when Aikman's supporting cast and coaching went to crap - his production fell like a stone. Because that's what happens to ANY quarterback under those circumstances. People thought Brady was done in 2013 because he had to throw to Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins all the time; 4 years later they give him Gronk and Cooks and he's suddenly the league MVP again at age 40. Brady is the clutchest clutch to ever clutch... until his defense goes AWOL and gives up 41 points to the Eagles, at which point he's not, because at some point if you keep taking longer risks to stay in the game it's going to probably bite you on the butt in the form of a pick or strip sack.

Aikman is underrated in some respects because passer ratings and passing volume have gone up across the league, so his numbers don't look that great through a modern lens. Adjust for era and his 1992, 1993 and 1995 regular seasons were extremely efficient, and in his 3 Super Bowl runs he threw 17 touchdowns to 4 interceptions, with 8 out of 9 games having a passer rating >100, which is fantastic in any era. He had every advantage a QB could have in those seasons, but you can't say he didn't take advantage of it.

I hate to use the word, since i like Romo, but Aikman was clutch in the playoffs.

defense and 22.

Eli Manning was clutch in the playoffs too. Look at PPG in his playoff games vs Romo and compare that to what Eli got.

Romo had 1 year with a run game that was producing at a high level and he almost won league MVP and would've beat the Packers if not for a bad defense, Murray fumbling, and Dez caught it.

There is no way Troy Aikman could've ran the show the way Romo did under the same circumstances.

Here's some real facts to your foolish rant. Aikman had the HUGE advantage of winning Super Bowls with a team built when there WAS NO salary cap. The Cowboys were VERY deep at ALL positions because Jones could pay his backups that would be starters elsewhere starter type money. The proof is when the cap started many of those backups were released and they ended up as starters on other teams. Next, name ANY time, including today, when Romo was chubby and unathletic. Romo was considered by most around the league both players, coaches, announcers and analysts as one of the MOST athletic players in the NFL. Romo used to move and dart around in the backfield for 5, 6, 7 seconds until a recever was open and then fire a strike to them. The ONLY reason the Cowboys did was well as they did during his time is because of what Romo had done. Most other QB's would have been setting records for the number of times they would have been saked, but Romo just kept buying time to get passes off. Romo unfortunately held a couple of records, one good one and one bad one for the defense. While Romo was QB he and the Cowboys had more 4th quarter come from behind wins than any other QB at the time. The Cowboys defense also held the record for the most times Romo and the Cowboys had the lead going into the 4th quarter only to have the defense give that lead up. Aikman was a great QB but was not mobile and if he played on the same team as Romo wouldn't have done as good or lasted as long because he would have been beat up to bad from sacks.

Aikman always had a extremely good team to work with - Romo didn't..
I dont really disagree with anything you just said. When Aikman came into the league he was very athletic in every way, was really an Elway clone, Jimmy ripped Aikman a new one for running so he stopped. Ive never seen a QB stand in the pocket getting wacked and still make the throws he did. I remember his rookie year against the Cardinals he was hammerred mid release, he ended up completeley horizontal in mid air, he ended up getting knocked out on the hit and never got to see the 60 yard laser he threw on the munney for a td. His playoff and Superbowl performances were big time clutch, anybody who needs a reminder should watch those buffallo superbowls, surgeon! Rarely ever made a bad int. That said, he fell off about as quick and hard as any great qb ive seen, once his back started up he just seemed beat up and done, it was sad to see. Maybe if we had drafted Randy Moss and then kept the two 1st round picks we gave to seattle for Galloway to pick Walter Jones and Sean Alexander whom they picked, then he might of had a chance to stay healthier longer

Era's, surrounding talent, coaches, different styles. They were both great, but, the key difference comes down to this.

Aikman hated to lose more than he liked to win.

And exactly how do you do that? They also played with different defensive rules. Think of it this way............Its January. Who do you want under center? 19 out of 20 Cowboy fans are going to take Aikman over romo in any kind of playoff scenario. Aikman was head and shoulders over Romo in terms of his decision making and leadership on the field. Troy was also way more competitive than tony. Romo was the king of regular season efficiency stats, but how many big games did he win or even play well in?

If I for a choose between the two in January with the exact same team, I take Tony Romo
