If Austin is the #2, Would You Take This?

So, in essence, you're saying that TDs scored from 30 yards out are worth more points than TDs scored from 1 yard out, right?
I'm saying if he scores 8 TDs from all over the field, he's dangerous.

From where he scores TD is irrelevant to me. They're all worth the same amount of points.

i'll be shocked if that happens. I don't see Romo throwing 30 tds next season.

I agree..........40 sounds better

:lmao2: you're crazy. but i'd love to eat some crow if you turn out to be right by some 1 in a million chance.

Obviously TDs are important, but unless that guy scores TDs at will, it won't matter if he can't consistantly make 4 to 5 solid catches a game under single coverage, with about 7 to 10 thrown his way. Most of those passes will be off the mark, or a drop or 2, which is understandable, but if they can't throw in his direction 7 to 10 times while the others are being doubled up, it will be a long sad year for the Cowboys.

1 in a million chance? those odds are as silly as your doubt.

We are a pass friendly offense, and Tony can sling it. I see us using Tony like the Colts use Manning and doing some passing to the TEs and Felix in the red zone, just as much, if not more than we run it in.

well if we continue to be a pass friendly offense we will continue to fail imo. we need to protect Romo with the running game. we're gonna have more tds coming from the running game than last year. If we attempt to use Romo like Manning than I have no faith in this team doing any better than it did last season.

I remember a quote from Emmitt when he was on the best damn sports show period saying something along the lines of (this was to Irvin btw) "The only reason I had the opertunities to get so many touchdowns is because you got caught between the ten yard line"

I see where you are coming from when you say you see more rushing touchdowns then passing, unless you think we are going to all of a sudden be a "steelers" type offense where we pound the rock non stop

believe me, I wish we were a power running team, but we wont go there. I wanted Lorenzo Neal in FA. I want to smack the defense upside their heads all game long and abuse them, like we did in the early 90s. Unfortunately, Garrett seems to be more of a finesse OC.

One thing that could help our offense, especially if it is pass happy, is if we run a hurry up or no huddle on some of our drives throughout the game. Romo seems to play better when we use the faster pace.

no i don't think we're gonna just pound the rock like the steelers(though I would if i had Barber,Jones, and Choice as my runningbacks) but we need to be more balanced. If Garrett decides to keep being pass happy than I hope he is fired after we fail again.

you're post is so depressing. but I think/hope Garrett utilizes our runningbacks and short pasing routes more next season.

A defense and a Special Teams unit that can tackle when they should.

Romo is not the problem.

what would the percentage have to be to be balanced? +\- x% difference in the amounts of pass\runs.

i see if its +\- 6-7% is fine which we ran last season ( i believe)

i concur with the utilizing the backs on passing routes, member the wheel to felix vs cincy or barbers 70 yarder vs the cards?

This organization is putting a lot of faith in an UDFA. But Austin has given them every opportunity. He'll get better and gain confidence with repetitions and then he'll start to get better football instincts. Its obvious he can get behind defenses, so he will benefit the most from a healthy Felix, Choice, and Barber.

Does anyone recall in training camp when Romo said one receiver is going to have a break-out season, it was Austin. He'll get his shot next year, unless we draft a WR high - or a late rounder surprises us.

just because he was ud doesn't mean he was good, it means all 32 teams made a mistake and 1 realized it

The funny thing is they were going to let him be the #2 last season and every single person this message board was all aboard that train until he got hurt in the preseason.

Haha I just realized what you did. Those stats were Alvin Harpers total from '94. Very nice comparison. If Austin gives us the level of play from Harper during our run, I'll be happy with him as a number 3 target.
:wink2:

All the hand wringing about WR seems kind of hollow when you realize that was Alvin's best year with us.

Witten is the #1 target. We have a solid running game with 3 guys who can contribute. Bennett has proven he can be utilized into the passing game. Crayton has been our #2 and did well. He is more suited to #3 and may actually have more catches than #2, but for what we need from Austin (stretch the field) the expectations have been too high.

The only real worry is can Roy Williams gel with Tony Romo. I think there's very little doubt, but I am sure the hand wringers don't see it that way.

What we really need is a healthy O-line and to move the chains. I am confident this Offense can do that and do it to the tune of among the top 5 Offenses in the NFL.

Absolutely agree. Only in some Fantasy leagues are there more points for long TDs.
