If Austin is the #2, Would You Take This?

33 receptions (barely over 2 per game)

821 yards (it is a 24.9 ypc avg.)

8 TDs (the important stat)

Is that his last year stats averaged over the course of a healthy 16 game season? That's a good # 2 when your #1 gets 1200 yards and 12 TDs in the same season. To Boot your TE does about the same as the #2 just with more catches and less ypc. That would be serious production for the #2.

Of course RW and Miles Austin would have to stay relatively healthy enough to play at least 15 games each this season to accomplish that. That's the biggest kicker to me with these WR's.

So basically u think Austin can avg 24 yards a catch and RW avg around 18-22 yards a catch, if that happens we will go at worse 14-2.

I think neither will happen. I do think Austin can avg around 15 yards a catch. Harper had speed and great leaping ability and to top it off had great hands. Austin has not showed me nothing but above avg speed....

I can see stats like this for our receiving corps---

Austin 40 catches 600 yards 5 tds
RW 73 catches 1234 yards 9 tds
Crayton 43 catches 484 yards 4 tds
Witten 85 catches 934 yards 5 tds
Bennett 40 catches 500 yards 5 tds

I would take those #'s in a heart beat. Talk about Bennett, Crayton and Austin collectively adding to this offense which sounds like the approach this organization is talking about.

That would be a lot of variety on offense and with the 3 rbs we have talk about Romo being seriously efficient if these numbers happen. Very hard for defenses to game plan. We'll see.

Stats for the entire team of 1994 we ran the rock 54% of the time and passed with it 44% (~2% were penalties)

Stats for the entire team of 2008 we ran the rock 41% of the time and passed with it 55% (~4 percent were penalties)

seeing how we play the pass more then we play the run now a days i'd say its more probable for Austin to get those numbers, he just has to stay healthy

Nope. I need more out of my number 2. Barber had a ton of TDs but he's an average back at best so TDs don't mean everything.

This is a logical statement, in Bizaro-World.

Will never happen, TO is gone, and this offense will not produce more than about 120 total yards of offense, and myabe 7 points per game. TO was the catalytic player that made the offense go, and he is gone.

Someone had to post it!

Do you know Buddy Ryan???

And we're likely to attempt more than the 448 passes the 1994 team attempted. We attempted 547 last year and 531 the year before.

I hope not, cuz that means we're either running down their throats are scoring more efficiently.

If you get 12 TDs from 1 yard out, doesn't mean as much as if you're scoring those TDs from 30 yards out, 6 yards out, 70 yards out, 12 yards out etc.

Harper scored because he was constantly left in 1 on 1 situations, and our QB had the guns and the accuracy/smarts to get it to him, along with our Coordinator who had the brains to figure out how to attack defenses.

I'd like to see Austin knock out over 50 catches, 6 to 8 tds from distances of 10 yards plus.

I'd like to see him consistantly beat 1 on 1 coverage, and occasioally beat double team coverage. I'd also like to see his butt get down field blocking on running plays etc. That's what I'd like out of Austin, but that's not who he is.

and you gained this grand impression watching him be the 3-4-5th wide out?

He shouldn't have been the 3rd or 4th WR if he's good, that's my point.

So Romo being 3rd on the depth chart while he was developing was what?

No talk is hes going to be the second string wide out by week 4

and again taking a stab in the dark, just so you know second string is starter...

Austin should've been the number 2 WR but he couldn't get separation. He also caught pretty hard passes, then dropped easy ones. This is who he is, we can find better. Too bad Hurd is slow, Hurd is a thousand times better than Austin.

We know you like the guy, you don't have to fight over him. He's all yours.

he couldn't get separation? you must forget the green bay game where he was leading the db back 3-4 yards only to get PI called on that sorry DB cause he mauled him before the ball got there.

Hurd is good, but not better then Austin. ipw Hurd as our 3rd stringer and get rid of Crayton
