If Columbo is our starting RT who do you keep in reserve at tackle?

Hopefully Pettiti to be the swing tackle, he's young and has no big contract to worry about and can be developed. You can release Fabini and hopefully leave him on speed dial just in case.

I'd like to see us keep 5 OTs. I know that's a lot but here's my scenario: Adams at LT, Kosier at LG, Gurode C, Riveria RG and Colombo RT. Parcells has Pettiti & McQuistan as backups at LT & Fabini backing up Colombo. But if Adams should get hurt or simply be unable to finish a game, do we really want Pettiti & McQuistan replacing him. Heck no. I'd feel lot better with Fabini coming in for Adams, if necessary. If Pettiti is first man in should Adams go down, then we'd be in same boat we were when Torrin Tucker took over after Adams went down. Remember Tucker had never played LT in regular season game and same applies to Pettiti. I think both McQuistan & Pettiti need more work this year and will help us out a lot more in 07.

Colombo starting at RT backed up by Fabini. (or reverse).

Petitti as the "swing"/LT. McQ to the practice squad. (or reverse).

I'm going with the initial situations (not the reverse).

I don't think BIll wants to run the risk of someone claiming McQuistan off waivers

BIll will let Fabini walk, and have him in limbo like he did with Adrian Murrell in case of an injury to one of the starting OTs, IMO of course

Does picking up Columbo make up for one of the O-linemen we missed out on? I mean he is very young and looks to be back healthy .... he was supposed to be the next great O-lineman when he came out, but got hurt.

May end up being a real find for us ..... a young steal.

Fabini >>>>>>>>> Murrell. Someone would pick up Fabini as a backup RT before they'd claim McQ off the PS.

That could be *THE* signing of the offseason.

true Fabini is a better player than Murrell, but no teams were in a hurry to sign him before

That doesn't mean anything really. Lots of good players lasted several weeks (or longer) in FA.

We'll see. :)

true, but let's look at it like this

BP has been raving about McQ, and the type of talent he has, teams are going to see that and will snatch him up to get a looksie

BP said that he'd die before he see Pettiti fail, he definitely aint going anywhere

Let's also look at this. We need a back up at RT obviously. Neither Petitti nor McQ are getting reps there and Parcells said that he wants to have people in their permanent positions by this weekend. Parcells wants to win now. Fabini has played very well in games and is a veteran. Other than Flo he would be the only person with significant playing experience at tackle. Parcells has talked up plenty of guys in the past and turn around and cut them.

ok, using that logic, cut Watkins because Marcus Coleman is the only veteran at FS? so if Keith goes down, we would need that veteran to replace him?

young tackles with ability get snatched up, vets who get cut right before the season wait on the market

No that doesn't follow logically at all. Watkins is a first day talent that has played himself into the starting position.

both are extremely talented according to Parcells, how does that not make sense? and McQ has been playing the swing tackle in preseason

Look, if we had 2 young FSs that were better than Watkins (like we have 2 young tackles that are better than McQ) then your analogy would be perfect.
