If Cooper Rush beats the Eagles

I think he should start the Lions and bears games.
He deserves the opportunity for taking on the heavy lifting of the Eagles game that is definitely beyond a test of his skill set.

Very disappointing that DAk is not going to lead his team in this very important game.

Definitely a reason why no one was allowed to see him throw with his right hand Jerry didn't want people asking why he wasn't going to start when nothing looked the matter with him.
Rush is not as good as Dak, but ….
  1. I wouldn’t mind Dak waiting till after the bye week and showing in practice that he’s back to where this isn’t even a discussion any more…..besides, the original timeline pretty much gets him there anyway.
  2. I and everyone else knew Troy Aikman was better than Steve Beurline, but after winning the last five games of the season when Aikman was injured, leaning on a good defense and Emmitt running the ball, despite Troy being healthy, Jimmy Johnson stuck with what was working and started Beurline in the playoffs of all things, leaving the healthy Aikman on the bench.
We beat the bears on 17 points and 180 passing. They both played vs Detroit as Beurline struggled and Aikman showed rust….we lost 38-6 and they both threw an interception. That was a star studded team that went 11-5 and finished on a 5-game winning streak without their star QB, 1 year before the first SB victory.

Fans always talk about not getting 3 in a row because of 1994, but we might have done the same thing if Aikman had started the game we won without needing him and had shook off some rust before letting Detroit kill us. Logic tells me to get the better QB on the field in this new philosophy asap when he’s a full go because we need him at his best for the playoffs, but even Jimmy Johnson stuck with the lesser backup when on a win streak. Of course, Beurline was much closer to a starting caliber QB than Cooper Rush right now.

Whatever happens, it will be a coaching decision, and I’ll support it.

His noodle arm won't improve...the play calling and one or two reads have helped him...he's done a great job, Dak will do much better wi a similar game plan

I luv what we have done thus far but I think unless Rush plays out of his mind, this is where reality sets in this week. We NEED Dak.

Which Dak, though?

One who lit up the Eagles last year, or one who stunk in week one, hasn't had a practice session since then until today, and isn't quite 100% yet?

Stuff I'm reading today feels like "they" don't think Rush can win this one so they're trying to get Dak "ready" with a couple of limited practice sessions.

I'll root for whoever trots out there, but I also find it easy to believe Dr. Jerry is chirping in Mike's ear. He doesn't attend coaches meetings just to pass the time.

Agreed I believe we need DAk and his skill set with his mobility.
I think people are underestimating how important of a game this is we go two games back it's no guarantee we get a wild card and makes it very hard to win the division

If the dude is injured then it is just that. No reason to breakout the tinfoil hat thinking there is something in the works to hide Dak.
Then why were they hiding him throwing with his right hand. What would be the purpose of that to let people see him throw with his left hand but not his right hand

the guy with the thumb injury CAN lead the offense to a LOT more yards and points and if they are able to pair that production with this defense
Then what happened in the last 2 games dak played?
If you look at last year, most of daks points and yards came against the lesser teams, and the games with better teams, he lost all of them
except the charger game, and the refs helped dallas win that one.

plus when dak is back in, the offense will change, and it will affect the defense in some ways.

They cant just "unplug" rush and plug in dak and everything stays the same. Just doesnt work that way.
Things will change when dak is qb again.
I wont speculate as to what those changes will be, but I dont think they will be what many expect, and it wont all be good.

What is strange to me is jerry and his boy are almost silent when it come to rush, and they havent given him any praise that I have seen.
They love the job he has done, but say little about it.

Jerry all he does is talk about dak, even though dak isnt even playing !

You got it Don , Rush is like the Rodney Dangerfield of the Cowboys
If Dak was on this winning streak All we would be hearing was playoffs and Super bowl from Jerry.
It's a double edged sword Cooper Rush is winning football games and saving our season while making Jerry look like he wasted a lot of money at the same time.

In your usual himeristic Dak-jock-sniffing haste you appear to have missed the point of my post

now go back and read the posts again LOL
I think you’re the one that has his jockstrap hanging from your ceiling. You seem to like to talk about his balls a lot LMAO

Excellent post, and you're 100% right we don't know what those changes will be we can speculate but we don't know.

What we do know now is Cooper Rush has provided a baseline of a quarterback with limited talent and an excellent grasp of the game that can win with the talent we have.

What DAk does when he comes back with the talent we have will tell us what direction we need to go in.

Context my brother, context.

one guy commands 40 million a year and is a 7 year veteran….the other is an UDFA with 5 career starts making 970k and takes up less than 1% of the teams salary cap

…..we expect more from the “franchise” quarterback when he stealing almost 20% of the teams cap room
That's not at all the issue in question. People are arguing that Rush should start over Dak this year; their salaries this year are completely irrelevant to that.

I refuse to believe this is a serious thread.
It is a thread - none the less.
A lot of this drivel being created by CZers not content on just analyzing our team winning games + reviewing individuals'\ squads' imput to victories.
They luv to delve into the hypotheticals...

I saw that game recently, and I think Detroit just out coached dallas that game.
I dont know if they just underestimated detroit or their bkup qb, but they got mauled and they made aikman look worse than Buerline.
That team did have barry sanders, but our defense just was awful that game, and they evidently could not adjust.

Next season they added some more defensive players and had a much better defense.
JImmy always wanted to win 2 of 3 , but on that day they lost all 3.

There's no throwing Cooper rush under the bus at this point he has gone above and beyond we are playing with house money
true and I expect him to lose a game .
He would have to look real bad and lose to get me off his band wagon.

Philly is probably the most together team dallas has played, the others all had issues they were working on, and had not been playing all that good.
The giants were probably the most together, but dallas just has more talent, they just are lacking at key positions, but are playing pretty good.
Giants are like a whole team of rush's lol not great but playing pretty good and winning.

Dak is 18-18 in his last 36 games, playing in what has been a generally-miserable division for a number of seasons until this one.

Dak may be bigger & stronger than Rush, but the latter has exuded a calmness & unflappability that stands in stark contrast to the deer-in-the-headlights look we've all become accustomed to seeing from Dak when the stakes get high. I'll take brains & composure over brawn any day of the week.

If Rush gets steamrolled by the Eagles, gets rattled, turns the ball over, makes poor decisions, and generally looks horrible, than any alleged "QB controversy" will pretty much be over. I would be quite surprised to see that happen on Sunday.

I fear that when (and if) Dak is eventually re-inserted into the lineup, we're going to return to three-dozen-pass-attempt games that historically have turned-out badly for Dallas.

The knock on Rush appears to boil down to: "Well, we haven't lost any games, but we're not winning big enough." I always thought it was the Cowboys that couldn't handle prosperity. Seems to hold true for many of their fans as well.

If Rush manages to beat the Eagles then I can’t wait to see what this defense can do with an actual NFL QB leading the offense!
We can hope when Dak comes back that he takes this team to heights we haven't seen yet this year.

If Cooper Rush can win with this team then there is absolutely no reason why DAk should not be able to win with the talent we have assembled here and a little more convincingly at that.

If he can't at least win we know we flat out have to draft a quarterback add four impact players and make use of the rookie contract window while we have this special defense.

It's really that simple but I don't think Jerry wants to face that fact nor was he expecting Cooper Rush to do what he has done
