If Dallas had kept Amari Cooper?

Coulda....shoulda....woulda. Let's just say Dallas never let Cooper go. Regardless in how he's doing in Cleveland now. Don't you guys think that Cooper being here opens it up for other receivers? They were the number 1 offense last season. What's different? No Cooper and yes Dak has been out. They let Cooper go with no real backup plan to replace him. Without a doubt, Dallas needs to go a WR in the draft. That's the difference in making this offense great. It's not an inept Dak. He had 37 tds to 10 ints. That's not bad at all.

They would be incredible had they kept Cooper.

Dude, we would be 20mil poorer for a marginal player who takes games off. You'll be happy when we have to sign Micah to a monster contract.

Then have a game plan to replace him. Don't just say we are fine with CeeDee, Gallup and Brown.

We are a drafting team and we drafted the last draftable WR left in the spring. He may or may not work out next season. We will likely draft another one next draft. You just have to keep drafting WR and OL if that's your gameplan.

If the Cowboys kept Cooper the board would be complaining about his lack of production. His 20 million dollars is reason we kept Shultz, Kearse, Hooker, Armstrong and brought in Fowler.
We still have 11 millions left under the cap, plus we didn’t sign Gregory and cut Collins. Cooper could still be here and those players you mentioned would be here too.

It absolutely would help. Cooper may not have had the individual production (of course he ranked 30th or so in targets) but he absolutely opened it up for others. His route running alone made him a viable target as he got open a lot.

the offense is near the bottom of the league and the wide receivers struggle to get separation.

It would certainly be better, only a fool would tell you differently. He's open on so many plays because of his precise route running, so many balls this year are heavily contested and you see no separation. This current offense is not good enough for playoff football.

The revisionist history is hilarious

Amari a #1 receiver putting up 60 catches/900 yds making $20m is the missing link from putting this offense over the top

“He opened things up for CD and Gallup!!”

How many true WRs out there are getting outproduced by another WR on the same team??

Hill?
Kupp?
Adams?
Jefferson?
Chase?
Diggs?
Deebo?

Only one i can think of was Metcalf last year

The Cowboys jumped the gun trading him as once Jacksonville signed Kirk the market opened up and his contract became much more reasonable based on production.
He was a talent, but never understood him taking himself out of games in the 4th quarter. Trade value is my regret

I think many would not been happy with anything less than a 1st or 2nd. And there was no way they were going to get a 1st at that point. For the main reason you posted. Taking himself out of games, and his lack of production and not taking over games like a #1 WR should.

Salary cap hit and dump was another reason as well. But some overlook that. He did not want to restructure his contact in Dallas was another reason. But the Browns invoked that clause and he agreed.
He wanted his $$$ to stay in Dallas. Not sure the contractual language as to why Dallas did not do that. Maybe he had to agree to it here, but if traded it was a teams option.

But yeah, the value is what has most upset more so than actually losing him, as he really was not producing like a #1, even when double teamed.

We would need him because then you take away kearse, Gallup, and Armstrong. We would need to score more points.

They 100% made the obvious and correct move. Getting rid of him.

I did giggle a little at the: oh, and our QB has been hurt part as if it isn't significant. Yeah, I'd say that's part of it.

Amari Cooper 2021 865 yards
Noah Brown 2022 on pace for 823 yards
Now I'm not saying Brown is Cooper's equal or even a solid NFL starter of course, but I am saying Cooper is not the receiver he once was. Best use of $20M in cap space we have done in a long time was getting rid of Cooper IMO. YMMV.
