If Dallas wins the Super Bowl, should Tony Romo retire?

The man would have the perfect swan song to a tumultuous career. He could go out on top and save his health for his family and life after football. On top of that, he's already the most prolific passer in franchise history. He would finally have that monkey off of his back and could go out on top. The last memory of Romo would be him hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

So if Dallas wins it all this year, should Romo call it a career? Or should Romo come back for one more year like Elway and defend the title?

I have to say, if it were me...after all the hatred and injuries that he's accumulated throughout his career, to go out on top would be an amazing ending to a great career.

Thoughts?

Doubt he will leave that kind of money he's making now.

Sorry, mods...I should have been more specific with my thread change request...haha

Can you do me one last favor and change it to "If Dallas wins the Super Bowl this season, should Tony Romo retire?"

With the state of our team right now, I will say he wont retire, the arrow is point up for this team, we are not in a rebuilding mode, alot of good pieces are in place for a good 3-5 year run, Im more than confident this franchise will do whatever it takes to shore the defense in the offseason.

Why would he retire when he finally gets a team capable of competing? I wouldn't think he'd think twice about the lasting memories of the fans. Most of whom bagged on him despite him playing great, for years. I think he cares a lot more about playing great and competing for as long as he can.

And, you know, no matter how well he's played this season, if he throws a pick or the season ends on an unsuccessful offensive drive, you know fans are going to be talking about it all summer. They'll turn on the QB play quickly if we don't keep winning.

Love Romo, but let's be honest about things here. This is not the first time he's had a team capable of competing.

Considering his health, if I was him I would. Not to say he will though. The chance for him to repeat will be strong.

The only thing better than a Super Bowl championship is two of them. Tony is a competitor. One Ring will only make him crave the second one even more.

The man loves to play and there's no need to bring the curtain down this soon unless the injuries catch up with him...

If his back doesn't make him quit, Romo won't be leaving for a year or two,,, at his age though things can go south in the blink of an eye.

Had one in 2007, too. It's been a while.

2008 was also a team poised to run through the regular season as well, although their record didn't reflect that.

2009 was a great season as well. Dallas had by far the best defense that they've had since Romo became the starter with their defense being 2nd in the league in terms of points allowed, and 9th in terms of yards.

2011, 2012, and 2013 were not necessarily good teams, particularly on defense but they were still good enough to be in a postion to gain a playoff berth going into their week 17 game.

This year's team is probably up there with the 2007 team as far as overall talent, but it's unfair to say that this year and '07 were the only good teams that Romo has had. Heck, even in 2006, this was a playoff team.

Let's remember that the Lombardy trophy is worth exactly zilch to the players when it comes to lifetime security. Romo is owed around 24 million next year...lol. These guys don't play simply for the love of the game; they play for the money. No one is retiring just to go out on top.

We're still talking about competing for Super Bowls, right? Because none of those rosters had a chance at a title. It looked for a bit like 2009's might. But we saw pretty quickly how that protection held up in MIN. We'd have had less of a chance against NOLA a week later if we'd somehow managed a win v. Minny.

Absolutely not. He should play as long as he has a love for the game and playing at a high level. You truly enjoy the spoils when you come back and you're still actively playing....ie..."wow what a pass from SB MVP and champion Tony Romo!!!!"

Getting in the playoffs means you have a chance for a title. There have been teams led by Romo in the past that have either made it or have had opportunities to make it.

To the point about New Orleans, I'd be inclined to maybe agree with that except for the fact that we gave them their first loss of the season late in the season in New Orleans.

Anyway, I stand by my point that while this current team is good, it hasn't been the only good team that Romo has been on. I don't see how the 2008 roster had any less of a shot than the 2007 roster.

He should do whatever he feels like doing. If he wants to play, keep playing. If he wants to retire and play golf and raise his family, retire...play golf and raise his family.

Nah I don't think he should retire. If he is able to win a super bowl with an average defense and his bad back imagine how his chances of a repeat would be with a stronger defense and a whole off season for him to get healthier. He could come back next year for a chance to repeat as well as get league mvp if he doesn't get it this year.

Super Bowl or not ... don't be surprised if he retires after this year.
