If Dallas wins the Super Bowl, should Tony Romo retire?

I hope he wouldn't retire leaving the boys with that contact to pay out and no romo to show for it. It's going to be depressing the day he hangs it up because it's back to the Ryan leafs and Quincy Carter's of the world for the boys. I like to forget the post aikman/pre romo years...

Whether he should retire or not is a matter he (and mostly he) has yet to consider, much less make a decision about. He routinely makes comments to the effect that he'll be playing at an improved level for the next 5 years. It certainly doesn't appear he's thinking in terms of considering retirement for sometime yet to come. They say players are as good as retired the moment they start thinking in terms of doing so. Perhaps it's just as well he's not considering it at this point in time. Of course, his back may demand he retire at some point yet to come but evidently, that thought isn't weighing too heavily on him at this juncture. I'm hoping his condition stabilizes in the offseason and doesn't present nearly as much of an issue next year. Only time will tell about that, of course.

No. And he wont. He's playing his best football with a team that is trending upwards. I have no earthly idea why he "should retire"

He should come back with lawrence health and hopefully two more d linemen taken in the first 3 rounds next year and try to win again.

If the Cowobys win the Super Bowl, Romo should run for president. After all, it only makes sense that America votes for the leader of America's Team. :starspin:

I'm not certain but if he does retire he doesn't lose any guaranted money and the club will have to swallow all that salary cap dead money.. All that money that's been pushed back will be due..

If they cut him it is guaranteed. But, if he retires on his own, I don't think he gets it...otherwise, players could sign a big deal and just quit

Why call it quits when something you've been working on for years has finally come together helping you achieve your dream? It's like playing golf for years and finally breaking par for the first time or winning a major championship why walk off the course and give up the game? Elway didn't walk away after his first SB win he stuck around to win another. It made sense for him to walk away at that point because he had played in 5 SB's winning 2 of them and was 38 years old. His skills had diminished and Romo's skills haven't even despite coming off back surgery. He hasn't had concussions and his back hasn't prevented him from having his best season ever which has him in the conversation for league MVP.

I'm a believer in squeezing everything you can out of a good situation I'm not about to walk away from anything when it's going good. If you go out on top it leaves room for regret years later. If you're still doing something at a very high level then keep doing it until the desire is gone or your body is saying it's time to move on so you'll never second guess your decision. With a young OL that's arguably the best in the league Romo would be foolish to call it quits after a great season and a championship. If he could add another Lombardi he'll have a chance to be voted into the HOF someday. He would seriously regret walking away after the season he's had especially if it leads to a championship.

If we win a Superbowl this yr, with our defense chances are we'll win several over the next 5 yrs.

Ring or not - no way he retires after this season. Last week he said he was throwing the ball with better accuracy than he EVER has (and it looks like that, too). HINT

Not a chance, he just had one of the best seasons of his career, keep playing until you can't play the game anymore.

So Tony would be coming off the best season of his career and winning the super bowl and he'd want to retire?

I'm not even sure the thought would even cross his mind.

And it's even more laughable for Cowboy fans to say he should retire.

I gotta feeling Romo is going to want to play even when he cant anymore......

the coiaches, JJ, the fans, and security guards are going to have to drag him off the field....

Agreed, though I hope it doesn't come down to that, some years from now. I want him to retire as a Cowboy. Not cut like Aikman.

The man would have the perfect swan song to a tumultuous career. He could go out on top and save his health for his family and life after football. On top of that, he's already the most prolific passer in franchise history. He would finally have that monkey off of his back and could go out on top. The last memory of Romo would be him hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

So if Dallas wins it all this year, should Romo call it a career? Or should Romo come back for one more year like Elway and defend the title?

I have to say, if it were me...after all the hatred and injuries that he's accumulated throughout his career, to go out on top would be an amazing ending to a great career.

Thoughts?

I think Jerry would want 7 SB trophy's in the case. The Steelers have 6. Tony is the only QB that can get this team to the big dance.
