If Dallas wins the Super Bowl, should Tony Romo retire?

Embarrassed to say that I remember that well.

Worse yet they were clamoring for them to start the ex Philadelphia eagle Randall Cunningham as well... It was like some sick bizarro world where cowboy fans boo a proven 3 time champ and cheer an ex eagle
Made me puke

I think he is playing the best football of his career and I would like to see him play 2-3 more seasons at a high level before retiring.

However, I honestly think that he probably should at least give serious consideration to retirement while his health is still relatively intact. He really wouldn't have anything left to accomplish so it'd make a lot of sense to retire. The Cowboys would be kind of screwed with the need to find an immediate successor but that would be Garrett and Jones' problem.

Having said that, I really don't think he will retire even if he wins the SB because he still knows he can compete at a high level and that is what he loves to do.

Tony already said he is playing 3-4 more years. Like he said, competitors compete as long as they can compete at the level they have set for themselves.

He truly feels he's just now finally playing his best football.
Barring a really terrible injury, I see no chance he'd retire...win or lose

I was not quite old enough to understand, but Don Meredith retired because in part he was getting Romo-type hatin'

That would have been tragic for the Cowboys if Roger were not there to finally win the big one.

Elway came back to win another ring, and he did. Romo is the kind of guy who would want to do the same thing. I know I would.

I got good news and bad news . We're gonna win the entire Super Bowl this year actually I got two bad news we ate gonna win a Super Bowl this year but one bad news is that I should've put )100 down on Dallas at like 30-1 to win it when those were their odds and the other bad news is that romo is gonna have a rough health situation after the sb and awkwardly play not so great next year and he'll be the ******* man so no one will wanna say anything

The man would have the perfect swan song to a tumultuous career. He could go out on top and save his health for his family and life after football. On top of that, he's already the most prolific passer in franchise history. He would finally have that monkey off of his back and could go out on top. The last memory of Romo would be him hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

So if Dallas wins it all this year, should Romo call it a career? Or should Romo come back for one more year like Elway and defend the title?

I have to say, if it were me...after all the hatred and injuries that he's accumulated throughout his career, to go out on top would be an amazing ending to a great career.

Thoughts?

Is this some kind of joke?

2008 was also a team poised to run through the regular season as well, although their record didn't reflect that.

2009 was a great season as well. Dallas had by far the best defense that they've had since Romo became the starter with their defense being 2nd in the league in terms of points allowed, and 9th in terms of yards.

2011, 2012, and 2013 were not necessarily good teams, particularly on defense but they were still good enough to be in a postion to gain a playoff berth going into their week 17 game.

This year's team is probably up there with the 2007 team as far as overall talent, but it's unfair to say that this year and '07 were the only good teams that Romo has had. Heck, even in 2006, this was a playoff team.
Pretty much all of the seasons you mentioned were crappy teams that were ONLY in contention because of Romo.

so, with the exception of debilitating injury, you think someone is going to throw away all of that money? IMO, Tony will play because he is a competitor and he won't be able to just turn that off...but if he retires, that contract isn't going to magically get paid any longer....

...and, btw, I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hades that he retires under any circumstances and I am grateful for that

Romo has indicated he wants to play for another 4 years. If so, he should play for that long. Fan and media ignorance and baffoonery are not even a gnat on his arse. Romo plays. Romo rocks. Haters hate.

Yeah, depends on how bad his back surgeries/injuries really are. He has a shot at Hall of Fame even without a ring, but would need a few more seasons of continued success, including a few playoff wins.....in my opinion anyway. I think he enjoys the game still and he strikes me as the type that wants to reward the organizations faith in him by giving it his all - even with the longer term health repercussions....

I doubt very seriously Romo gets in the Hall of Fame sans a Super Bowl ring.

Hell No!!! He is the best QB in the game. He will win more than one ring before he calls it quit

Should we be lucky enough to see our Cowboys win the Superbowl this year I still think Romo would play another year or two anyway.

I wouldn't blame him though if they won the Superbowl if he decided to walk away but I don't see him actually doing that.

I'm not certain but if he does retire he doesn't lose any guaranted money and the club will have to swallow all that salary cap dead money.. All that money that's been pushed back will be due..

I doubt he keeps the guaranteed money if he retires. He probably would have to pay back a pro-rated portion of the SB he received, too.

Having said that I don't think finances are a major consideration for him at this stage of his career. He doesn't seem like an extravagant guy and has already pocketed around $100M for his career not including endorsements.

If he plays it is because he wants to keep playing for the love of the game. I strongly suspect he plays 2-3 more years barring injury.
