If Garrett leaves, who do you want at OC?

For our sakes if this happens I hope he does better than he did in Pittsburgh where Cowher had to take away his playcalling responsibilities. He did not even last a season.
...........YEP! I like Sherman right where he is at, coaching the wideouts. Besides, Ive already layed out the best possible scenario of all in my earlier post. Its the one that ends...............and we all live happily ever after ...

David Lee just because Romo wouldn't call him a 'kid'.

I may not have a Princeton education, but Garrett seemed incapable of making adjustments down the stretch.

Even when he had weapons, ala Felix Jones - he had a hard time getting the ball in his hands.

I'm not very versed in regard to his passing tree, but how exactly does that work? Guys just run extended versions of the routes on different levels in the secondary?

All I can say is one of the criticisms of Garrett is that he was fine as a coordinator but his playcalling was influenced by trying too hard to please people, namely Owens. My concern with Sherman is that he would go even further than Garrett in the people-pleasing business and would not try to resolve that issue. And yes, I have serious concerns whether or not he is the appropriate person for the job.

Sean Peyton had it removed from him in New York, but people in the league were smart enough to know he is a good coach and people in the league were willing to give him the opportunity. I seriously doubt you will find an OC who is willing to make a lateral move and the others out there are guys who just got fired and why did they get fired?

I don't see how Sherman is such a great candidate to be a coach, his WRs don't even run the right routes. I know I know, the coaches can't do it for them - but you'd think he would pick up sloppy routes in the film room, and make guys work on them.

You bring up a good point about the passing tree. It is my belief that that passing tree was extended out this last season. Like every route had a few yards tacked onto them by design. If so that was a HUGE mistake. Lengthening routes requires more time in the pocket, lineman holding their blocks longer, ect ect. The RHG was way too married to the deep passing game last season. Deep passes always work better when set up by a heavy dose of the running game, playaction, and a nice midrange passing game. Last season we seemed to try and FORCE everything deeper. That cant happen, it has to come natural, and to do that requires a sound sustained running attack.

I agree on the running game, this team is built to pound the rock, not finesse teams.

We got away with taking shots down the field in 07, beacuse teams felt that they couldn't pressure us and contain our receivers. Once they figured out they could bring the heat and our line and Romo would fold, the blueprint was made to stop our passing game.

Doubling Owens, take your lumps with Witten, and don't worry about Crayton or Roy getting any separation.

I'm really putting a lot of faith in a healthy Miles Austin to add some spark to this offense, especially when the Cat gets healthy.

Our guys last year, just looked a tad bit slow across the board - Owens, Witten, Crayton, and Roy.

Often assistants get fired when teams change head coaches. It is not commonplace to retain pieces of a staff if the new head coach does not agree with the philosophy. So comparing a recently dismissed offensive coordinator to someone like Sherman who had a very rough time in Pittsburgh is not appropriate. The Payton example is valid. You could also use Charlie Weis. Both of these coaches however had a proven track record supposedly before their responsibilities were removed due to philosophical disputes. Sherman is an excellent WR coach. I don't believe he's at his best when trying to run an offense and he has the spotty record to prove it.

I would not necessarily give it to a fired offensive coordinator looking for work anyways. Someone mentioned the QB coach from the Saints the other day. It could just as easily be that type of up-and-comer. We need someone to work with Romo. The area where I think we need the least continuity and more of the same is offense. That is where we broke down significantly last year. I cannot say with confidence that Sherman would be able to not only fix the issues with the WRs and the passing game but also provide help to Romo. Perhaps a QB-oriented coordinator would help. And yes, we need a new QB coach while we are at it.

Brian Stewart, Bruce Read, Wade Wilson, and Hudson Houck - all displayed little to suggest they should be coaching in the NFL last season.

..............Only one I would keep is Houck. Gonna take him some time to whip these cats into shape. He had to deal with the loss of Kosier/Holland most of the season and that SLUG of a left tackle we carry Flozell. Flo is a pretty good passblocker, when the mood strikes him, when he FEELS LIKE IT, absolute SUXX as a runblocker. Always has, always will. To run block you have to be a self motivated strong desire to really get up field and get after that second level of defenders. Slugs dont have that desire. Im quite sure that Houck doesnt like Flo very much at all. He's no Tuinei in the running game, in fact.....he aint even close.

Flo is much more of a "reacher' and a pusher in the run game. Almost like he's passblocking...LOL What he isnt is a guy that will get low and bury someone than come off that block and look for a linebacker to hit to extend the play. NO WAY is that Flo, that kinda stuff takes WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too much energy for a slug to even think about accomplishing.

You need to pay more respect to the coach who supposedly taught Quincy Carter how to grip the football and take a snap from center.

Man, Quincy would have had his character worked out real quick.

Still, you'd have a great supply of weed....for a week. LOL

I bet Jerry and Wade would love Lee, but I doubt the Dolphins would let him out. He's probably in charge of developing Henne. Remember, Parcells blocked Sparano from interviewing for OC of the Saints back when he was OL coach here.

I haven't even looked at all the names out there... Need to do that. The Schottenheimers and Chudzinskis are good coaches, I think, but I'd rather have someone older so maybe Tony would be more inclined to listen to them. Saunders might actually work... As long as we keep it to 2% of the playbook.
