1. Restructure your contract. (Seriously, if I'm JJ I really would)
2. Re-sign Hamlin, Barber, Canty, and maybe even FLO to a contract similar to TOs
3. Allow McQuistan to battle it out with Kosier regardless to injury at OT
4. CUT Reeves and Jones
5. Trade Fasano to any taker (Miami)
6. Trade Ellis, Akin and Spears to Detroit for RW
7. Draft any of the following players with our top 3 picks:
Felix Jones -back up RB and KO returner
Leodis McKelvin - 3rd DB and awesome punter
Antoine Cason - see McKelvin
Chris JOhnson - See Felix
Donnie Avery - WR with wiggle and speed
Michael Jenkins - see other DBs
Jonathon Stewart - great compliment to Barber. Smash and smash more
Devin Thomas - See Avery
Lavelle Hawkins - See other WRs
DeSean Jackson - See other WRs plus dynamic punter returner
8. Move Ratliff to DE
9. Move Burnett to starting ILB and Spencer to starting OLB and Carpenter to nickle LB/flex LB
10. Grab Schimtt with the 3rd rounder
11. Call every player out in the first meeting of the season and let them know they are preceived as soft by the entire division. Get tough and never back down from your opponent. Stare every opponent in the eye until the referee comes in between you two to let them know you won't back down.

Antoine Cason will be long gone by our pick. He is the #1 rated CB and will be gone top 10.

I haven't seen a single scouting service that has him rated #1 and most of them have him in the 15 to 20 range.

He's good but not worth top ten money. I think there's a chance he's there at 20.

I agree - that just aint happening

Lets get real before we gut a 13-3 team.

*Back,
Ellis, Glenn, Ferguson Vet depth

* Priority re signs -
MB3 and Hamlin

*Gone if we can trade them,
Carp, Roy, Fassano

*Gone
Flo, JJ. Ayodele

FA - Eugene Wilson at Safety would be a nice add. He lost his gig to Butler and Merriweather

Draft - CB and RB in One, Wr value pick in two. See if value in 3 at ILB. But never dismiss BPA (TE, Pass Rusher)

a QB Rounds 4-7 :D

We have two immediate upgrades with MB3 and Burnett starting in 2008. Roy may lose his starting job if he comes back playing like this next camp. Its up to coaches scouts to know if Free/McQ are ready, if not we may need to go get a Tackle in FA.

Tweaks, not a major overhaul.

I agree. Also, I would keep Terry Glenn. If he stays healthy he's still a very dangerous weapon. He's also younger than T.O.

Glenn needs another surgery-- he's as good as gone.

Glenn's history Norsey...

Ferguson is close to being history...

Roy Williams isn't going anywhere...

Akin Ayodele won't be back next year either....

Talking in absolutes when you are just guessing is irritating.

I doubt very seriously Ferg and Akin are gone.

Our Run d was weak in the middle after he went down. The only reason it wasnt exploited more was because most teams were trying to play catch up with our offense.

Tank and Rat were good back ups and maybe better rushing the passer, but they just couldnt plug the middle like Ferguson does. We better not get rid of Ferg until we get a replacement.

not a major overhaul? switching your LT is huge. i just don't under this nonchalant feeling about flozell. as if LT is easy to fill with a decent body. oh i forgot the giants did it with diehl. the cowboys have spent the last 5 years trying to solidify this line and now everyone just wants to let it go.

as well as getting rid of a 1st and 2nd draft pick. those guys are cheap doesn't matter if they're sitting right now. then you want to draft another TE?

and the cowboys should never try to take someone off the patriots, eagles, or colts rosters. those teams know how to evaluate their roster, if their players leave it's because they are done.

I don't know how people live without it. Best investment I ever made was the dish, NFL Network, Sunday ticket.

Re-sign Flo to a 3 year deal where they can comfortably cut him after 2008. Allows Cowboys a better chance of finding a replacement who is actually ready to play starting LT in the league.

Try and re-sign Reeves to a 2/3 year deal for around $3-$4 million. If he wants more, then let him go. Not even trying to re-sign him puts Dallas in a bind in the offseason. Here we can re-sign him and cut him possibly before the 2008 season starts if we actually get replacements at the #3 and #4 spot (N. Jones needs to be cut as well).

Don't re-sign Julius.

Tender a first round restriction on Barber, wait until middle of 2008 season to see what he may be worth re-signing.

Re-Sign Hamlin to a top 10 Free Safety contract. If he wants more, then balk with Watkins behind him and the draft.

Sign Lance Briggs.

After signing Briggs, cut Ayodele.

Draft a CB, Running back (needs to be able to run in short yardage and work well in man-to-man blocking), ILB --would be nice to possibly replace Burnett, strong safety who can play special teams coverage, WR with return abilities.

Keep Fergy around and see if he can start at NT again and move Ratliff to the starting LDE spot, Spears will move to the backup LDE spot.

I'd be pretty content with that, especially if we can improve on special teams coverage/returns, #3 and #4 corners, and #4 and #5 WR's.

Why not ask me instead of thinking everyone thinks that way. I mean, after all, it was my post. It's called trying to match balance of salaries, age, and depth of backups to both team's needs.

We have Ratliff, Tank Johnson and Ferguson. I expect the team to keep Ratliff and the cheapest option. That makes Ferguson available. As does his age.

Ellis and Ayodele both have positions where there is depth.

The Lions have defensive needs and don't want draft picks.

I am not saying this would happen. The whole theme of the thread was "if you were the GM, what would you do." That is what I would do. I'm the joker. There's no plural to it.

Ferguson's value couldnt be lower now that he is coming off of injury.

Give me the moves you would make this offseason...

1) It looks like we are going to lose Garrett and Sparano. I would replace both with Cam Cameron and Hudson Houck.

2) Resign Barber, Canty and Davis

3) Do not bring back Julius Jones, Terry Glenn, Jason Ferguson, Flozell Adams, Jacques Reeves or Ken Hamlin.

4) Move Anthony Henry to FS. Lost speed makes this a good move.

5) Let Doug Free battle McQuistan for the LT position. Free was drafted to replace Flo and now is the time.

6) Use the money saved from letting some our guys go to resign Newman, Ware to LONG term deals. Resign Owens to a 2 yr. extension.

FREE AGENTS

Sign Bryant Johnson (Arizona) to play opposite of Owens. You won't have to break the bank to sign a really good hidden talent.

Sign Drayton Florence (San Diego) to play opposite of Newman or nickle CB.

DRAFT

1A - Antoine Cason - CB - Arizona

Antoine would battle Florence to start with the loser playing nickle. Cason would be looking to start by year 2.

1B - James Henry - WR - Indiana

I love this kids talent. Reminds me of Plaxico. He would battle Crayton for the 3rd WR' position in the 1st year but would start in the future. Possibly to replace Owens.

2 - Chris Johnson - RB - ECU

I think this guy is going to end up being one of the better backs in the draft.
Great back to pair with Barber.

I would cut you and then go to the bar and try to forget the money you cost me.

Unfortunate, but true. Great guy, but Ratliff and Tank filled the position.

I would rather see a line of Ratliff Ferg Canty then any other combination and look to move Spears or Bowen.

Spears actually would have some value esp as a 4-3 DT or strongside end.

I think Rat has more value at DE rotation and we are better with Ferguson and Tank inside with Rat as insurance.
